Retired couple from Connecticut. We love Old Forge and have been coming here for 20 years. It is our second home and we look forward to sharing our Adirondack experience with you and your family!
Claire purchased this cabin in 2004
Best possible location, one block walk to town, and directly on the Moose River with serene river views and private dock for Kayaking or canoeing, easy river access!
Have the feeling of being in a remote area with all of nature around you but you are still within walking distance of all the conviences of town.
My husband and I stayed two nights in this beautiful "cabin for two"....As we headed home, we were already planning our next visit. The cabin is all it's advertised to be..and much more...
My husband and I rented this charming cabin on the Moose River. When we arrived, the cabin was spotless and cozy, as other reviewers have noted. Loved the owner's artwork and all the wonderful touches that made it so warm and inviting. Also loved the screened porch looking out on the river. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the cable, due to a new digital box that had recently been installed. Within minutes of calling the caretaker, his tech-savvy college student grandson arrived, and spent two hours working with the cable company in an effort to install a new box. In the meantime, our gracious host invited us to stay in the chalet, which did have cable, and was just a few steps away. When it appeared the cable company was not going to be able to connect us for a few days, we moved to the chalet. This is a much bigger home with three beautiful bedrooms and a gorgeous deck. Since it was not being rented during our stay, the owners kindly let us use the larger house with no additional fee! My first thought was how fun it would be to rent both houses for a family gathering. Both are lovely, in a quiet and peaceful setting on the water, with a boat rental company just down the road. Also in walking distance is the charming town of Old Forge and Thendara. So you really have the best of everything--a peaceful riverfront retreat and restaurants, shops, and walking trails. Both houses are also very well equipped. Most important, the owners went well above and beyond their obligations to make our stay comfortable and to make sure we had cable! We would love to return!
The property is exactly as described. We enjoyed the morning view of the river, the cozy gas fire, the owner's art on the walls, the sense of seclusion and short walk to town, the easy availability for kayak rental, and Old Forge itself. Two cautions: if internet is important, a connection is rare inside the cabin, and there is a down hill walk to the cabin from street level (I have bad knees).
My boyfriend and I rented this cabin over the summer and we couldn't have been more pleased. The cabin was very clean and cozy (decorated with some of the owner's own fantastic artwork) and just perfect for a couple. We loved having Moose River right behind the cabin and being able to fish off the dock. We were within walking distance from gift shops, supermarket, and restaurants. We rented a canoe at Tickner's, which is just a short walk away. Our only regret was not staying longer! We will definitely return.
My husband and I stayed in this lovely cabin for 2 days. We wished we could have stayed longer. The interior of the cabin is so cozy. It is so close to town that you can walk everywhere but you can't hear all the traffic or people. Its very peaceful. We will definitely try to reserve this cabin again next fall.
We stayed at this cabin for the weekend and it was perfect!!! Upon our arrival we were welcomed by a curious little doe that was not afraid of us. How wonderful! During our trip we left our kayaks tied up to the dock and would go out for a relaxing trip down the river whenever we felt the desire. Although in town this cabin is set back from town and we did not hear any noise indicating we were around others! We had campfires outdoors at night until we went inside to enjoy the warmth of the gas fireplace inside. It really was the best escape for someone not looking for any grandeur or pizzazz, simple rustic yet comfortable cottage. The owners provide much more than I expected as well (cookware, plates, silverware, garbage bags, and more) we didn't even need everything we brought. Overall it was a great get away and I only wish I could have stayed longer! We will be back!
