Cozy and Quiet Mountain Retreat with Views

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Guests are sure to enjoy the stunning views, peace and quiet, and warm feel of this fully furnished, 2 bedroom/ 1 bath property. The property can comfortably accommodate 8 with 1 bedroom, a separate guest cottage (no bathroom in the guest cottage!) and two lofts with beds. The cabin is surrounded by trees, within 5 minutes walk to climbable rock formations, across the road from hundreds more acres of woods and fields to explore, and close to world-class fishing and hiking trails (kid-friendly walks, lazy pass hikes, and 14,000 foot mountains). Twenty minutes to quaint and historic Fairplay, 45 minutes to Breckenridge, 1 hour to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs. Enjoy a day of activities and come back to watch the sunset with a glass of wine. (The kitchen is range only. No oven.)

Please note: the cabin is discounted for winter because the snow presents some challenges. The driveway is about 400 feet long and very steep. Even when plowed, many 4wd vehicles cannot reach the top. This means parking at the bottom of the driveway and hauling your stuff to the top (in the snow, at high altitude). The cabin is a beautiful, cozy, and rugged winter mountain experience. There are photos of the driveway in the snow to give travelers a sense of the distance. In one photo you can see the view down the switch backs of the driveway and in the distance is my husband (hiking up with our stuff). On the upside, driveway makes for some great sledding. Follow link to see video:

Snow generally melts by April, and from then on, the driveway is accessible to all vehicles including 2wd.

We have two small children and we use our cabin all winter, so it can be done and it's worth it!

Great view!

  • 4 of 5

Good choice to get away from it all. Roomy children's bedroom--complete with stuffed animals--on the first floor comfortably accommodates 3 kids, while a queen bed is in the loft upstairs. Note that even though the queen bed is a "Sleep Number" bed, I couldn't seem to find a setting that was very comfortable for me (but that may just be me). There is also a separate cottage away from the main cabin that can accommodate more people. Instant (tankless) water heater means you don't have to concern yourself with running out of hot water, although the tradeoff is that it can be a little noisy at times. No conventional oven inside (although they do have an electric cooktop); you may also consider using the fire pit outside for cooking hot dogs, foil dinners, or for use with a dutch oven. Gas fireplace kept the cabin plenty warm and cozy (adjustable by thermostat). We saw quite a few Steller's jays while we were there.

Peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful clean, quiet cabin. Skies were completely dark at night -- loved seeing the stars! Great for a romantic getaway!

Mt Princeton Hot Springs was very relaxing. We hiked McCullough Gulch and Lizard Rock (1 hr south-ish) and visited nearby Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. Bring camera for spectacular views.

Nice cup of coffee in nearby Fairplay, the best gluten free cookies I've had in ages, and great croissants (beats Whole Foods croissants, anyway).

Great location, excellent view!

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay at this cabin. The location was just remote enough without taking too long to get out there. Plenty of room and good amenities.

Great family get away!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time. Our 5 kids loved everything as well. We used the house and cottage during our stay. It was a great retreat for the kids to hang out while giving the adults some quiet time. Beautiful views from the property. Close hiking. Even took the short drive to summit pass and did some sledding and hiking as well. Fishing was pretty close too.

We definitely enjoyed our time here and plan to stay again in the future.
