Lefteris home dates back to the 18th century. During the German Occupation the house was a hideout for the Cretan rebels. Today it has been restored with respect to tradition. The villa is located in the area of Metochi, 1km away from the historic village Maleme and 5min walk away from the sea.
Lefteris villa is 160sq.m., furnished with traditional wooden furniture but also with some modern pieces. The stone arches provide shaded entrances to the villa and areas where you can hide from the hot sun during the summer days. In the garden there is a barbecue and the pool (32sq.m.) has an integral children’s pool.
The villa has two floors. At the ground floor there are a modern furnished living room with a fireplace, dyed in warm shades of orange, a traditional Cretan kitchen with a fireplace, fully equipped with new appliances and a bathroom. On the first floor a bathroom, a twin and two double bedrooms are found; the twin and one of the double bedrooms have French doors leading to private balconies, overlooking the pool. The master bedroom with the four-poster double bed has a French door that opens to a terrace with marble stairs leading directly to the pool.

Met by the charming owners Lefteris and Alexandra who made us feel so very welcome. An enormous basket of fruit, local wine and local olive oil were given as a welcome gift. The villa is beautiful and has a unique charm. The pool and outside dining area is fantastic and all is very private. Villa is well equipped and is cleaned with fresh linen and towels twice weekly (Towels are also provided for outside pool use). Lefteris and Alexandra offered open access for any thing we wished to know regarding the property, local area / further afield. At times we found it difficult to leave the villa as it was so tranquil. Meleme is the local area, the beach is not sand and is prone to 'fresh winds'- this means big waves and no chance of using a lilo etc. We have learnt that this part of the coast is prone to the winds and many beaches have stones etc. However, if you work your towards Plantanias ( 10mins by car) and onwards to Chania there are plenty of beautiful coves with sand and crystal waters- we chose to stop in the coves that had access to taverna of which there are many. Local to villa is supermarkets and bakery etc. Chania is a beautiful city and is approx 30mins by car and well worth a day and or evening out. Rethymno is approx 1hour away and we felt was the prettier and more relaxed of the two cities. Our harbour side seafood platter meal was wonderful and we were certainly charmed by the team who served us. Therissos Gorge is well worth the drive through (approx 45 mins each way)with tavernas at the end to welcome one with some really tasty local menus. The villa is approx 1km from the German war cemetery and less than an hour to the allied war cemetery in Souda bay, both are peaceful beautiful places with information about the wars. We would highly recommend this property to friends and hope to return again ourselves.
From beginning to end, Lefteris was the perfect choice. The house was restored beautifully (just as beautiful as the pictures make it look inside and outside). The view from one bedroom window to the sea refreshing. The pool and eating area outside completely relaxing. Most of all, Joanna and Lefteris were gracious, helpful hosts at their villa. We will always appreciate their warmth and kindness in the small things that make a vacation a real, rich memory. We will come back again and again and again to Lefteris. Thank you!
16 km west of Chania, in this very fertile corner of Crete, Maleme was famously the setting for the epic Battle of Crete in the last world war. Today the countryside is dominated by sweet smelling orange groves and whispering plantations of tall bamboo which fringe the mile upon mile of almost deserted sandy and pebbly beaches. Maleme has a good choice of tavernas, and a fairly large supermarket and although the village has undoubtedly grown in recent years, it still retains a pleasingly unsophisticated air and if you explore a little, you'll soon find the local baker and a real Greek butcher's shop. For a little more action the bustling village of Platanias is just less than 4km away but if you prefer a slower pace of life and a rather more tranquil atmosphere, there are several sleepy villages located just inland.
