About the property

3 Bedroom 2.5 Baths sleeps 8- 10 people. Mountain and aurora views.

Whether traveling to Fairbanks under the summer's midnight sun or winter's aurora borealis - you will find this peaceful setting a perfect base for your interior Alaskan vacation.

This 3,000sqft natural log home was built almost entirely from the white spruce trees that grew on the property. The original owner cut, hand peeled, and allowed the logs to dry. He then contracted a premier log home builder to hand scribe each log to fit into place in 1990. The log detail is a thing of beauty. It has that rustic, homey feeling that only log homes can give.

This premium log home offers views of the Alaska Range and Denali from the inside loft or while relaxing on the grand outdoor deck while grilling your favorite Alaskan seafood. During dark, clear nights enjoy star gazing and the excitement of the aurora borealis unobstructed by city lights from either inside or outside this well-appointed, truly Alaskan home.

The large upstairs loft bedroom sleeps four in a queen size bed and a pair of twin beds. Please note the set of twin beds are accessed over a low log wall using three stairs on each side of log wall. This gives some privacy from each of these adjoining sleeping spaces in the loft. This is a popular place to sleep and brings out the child in all my guests.

The pair of downstairs bedrooms in the walk out basement, each have queen size beds. All the bedrooms have views and are accessed via stairwells. There is also a futon bed that can be pulled out to sleep an additional two people. There are bathrooms conveniently located on all three levels.

There is a spacious eat-in kitchen and also a huge dining area that seats large groups comfortably. The kitchen is well-stocked with dishes, cooking utensils, and even spices and other essentials.

The sitting area near the fire is the most popular place to read, while the family room has a 60" curved television available for your viewing pleasure.

The keyless entry makes access convenient and there is no worry over lost keys.

Off street parking is plentiful and has headbolts for winter guests to plug in their vehicles when temperatures drop to subzero temperatures.

I believe the peace and tranquility that guests enjoy while staying at this vacation rental comes from the "groundedness" of the home being built from truly local logs. It can't get more organic than that!

About Kathy Alonzo

I arrived in Alaska in 1975. I have lived in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Delta Junction, Petersburg, Arctic Circle Hot Springs Resort, and North Pole. Construction work took me around the state, but I found Fairbanks to be just the right size town for me. The people here are amazing! I have worked as an iron worker, retailer, cashier, florist, receptionist, teacher, and business owner. My talented children all live here in Fairbanks and I am now a proud grandmother.

This is one of three properties I rent as vacation rentals. I also own and manage Lead Dog Cabin #789673 or Raven's Rest #928995.

Kathy Alonzo purchased this lodge in 2005

Why Kathy Alonzo chose Alaska

I bought this gorgeous natural log home property to fulfill a life-long dream of owning a bed and breakfast. After ten years of operating the B&B, I noted the need for family vacation rentals in this area and am moving in that direction.

Paradise at 20º below zero!

  • 5 of 5

We were blessed to have found Kathy's home. A perfect base of operations for a perfect winter Alaska trip for three generations from 8 to 71 years young. The radiant-heated floors were toasty all the time ; the wood stove (firewood provided!) most excellent. The huge eat- in kitchen met our needs as five with views of Denali. And the table in the great room could do feasts for fifteen if needed. We had several nights of aurora displays with spotting greatly aided by texts from Kathy (!) and websites auroranotify.com and softservenews.com both of which let you sign up for useful real time automatic notifications. We also had an amazing aurora 'surgical strike' with Lynne at dogsledexcursions.com who took us out on very short notice in her funky truck. Iditarod finalist and Yukon Quest champion Bill Cotter took us dog sledding for an unforgettable 7 miles on snow and then his family warmly received us with fresh baked muffins. He's an hour out of town but the realest real deal! Kathy even texted us when the neighbors alerted her there was a indeed a Moose in the Garden...The beds were comfortable and the house is huge and beautiful. The easy trip into Fairbanks for shopping was 15 minutes. Certainly not the cheapest rental but at least in this case you get what you pay for. What a find!!

Very nice home in a good location.

We were visiting to see the Aurora and not only did we see it, but one night it was right over the cabin. The home was very comfortable even in negative temperatures due to the radiant flooring, a real plus.

Big, beautiful space

  • 5 of 5

It was a nice place, beautiful home and well stocked. Though a bit removed from the rest of town it ended up working well for our large group. Only issue the whole time was cell service and wifi, but I believe that had to do with cell tower being down and not the accommodations. Kathy was a fantastic host was super communicative before folks arrived which helped put me at ease. Thank you Kathy for accommodating our group!

Owner's Response: I am so sorry that the cell service was so unpredictable during your stay. The entire neighborhood was impacted due to a cell tower as you mentioned. I am the neighborhood administrator for our fb page, so I read about your issue even before you told me about it. The service is usually not an issue. Occasionally we do get our service interrupted and causes it to drop, but we just have to reboot the router and it connects right back up. I am glad that you enjoyed the house and the view. I will have to get some more current photos posted!
