Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a tremendous time at the Squirrel's Nest for our 20th Anniversary get away. It was, only the 2nd weekend in 6.5 years we've had away from the kids, and the Nest made it worthwhile. Enjoyed hiking along Skyline Drive and one of the greatest meals EVER at Bavarian Chef. Thanks so much for the great memories, hot tub, and hospitality. See you next summer - the Nest is our favorite local get away! WOW

Hidden Treasure!

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful mountain vacation home. It's perfect for 2 to 4 people. Very clean, cozy and delightfully decorated with a modern yet rustic theme. This private cabin is reasonably located near local shops, restaurants and wineries.

The property host(s) were very friendly and promptly replied to any questions we had.

Overall, it was a terrific experience and we look forward to returning again in the future!

Perfect Anniversary Weekend

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I absolutely loved our stay at Squirrel's Nest. We figured out it's namesake quite quickly as we were often mesmerized by the squirrels eating out of the bird feeder and playing with one another on the balcony. The place was secluded, cozy, and modern yet rustic. I loved the modern appliances coupled with homey decor. The bathroom was my favorite. The decorations and modern conveniences were beyond what we expected. The sunroof above the bed made for a beautiful nightlight from the moon and stars. The balcony/porch was the perfect place to sip coffee in the morning and watch the critters run around. The hot tub was an amenity we loved taking advantage of. Linda and her sister Kathy communicated wonderfully and took care of any concerns we had. This was the exact anniversary I was hoping for. No one bothered us, we had everything we needed and therefore never had to leave the cabin. It was perfect! We would definitely recommend Squirrel's Nest to our friends as I'm already hoping we will be able to go back!

Simply a hidden gem, very beautiful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

My husband surprised me with a mid week break to the most adorable, unique and extremely relaxing cabin. The level of cleanliness really surprised me especially since the cabin is in the woods. The amenities made me feel like we were in a high end hotel suite. With the fresh cleaned linens and rain on the roof I had the best nights sleep that I've had in years.....so very much needed! My husband had planned day trips to the Charlottesville downtown mall and a few wineries but we found ourselves content with staying in and only ventured to Early Mountain Vineyard once. Purchased a few bottles of wine and spent time reconnecting. So very much loved everything about the Squirrels Nest.....and did I say the beds were freshly made?? Wow, no need to take your own linens! I'm hoping we can stay longer in the fall.

Neat and cozy but just needs a little work and cleaning.

  • 3 of 5

Loved the look and feel of the place. Nice to find a modern cabin way off the beaten path. Loved the layout of the grounds. Perfect for entertaining a group. The few complaints were that the cabin and grounds needed a good tidying up. Lots of debris in the yard and mice droppings in the kitchen along with dead mouse stuck in the trap. Also a big ant problem! They were all over the kitchen, so keep things sealed tight. The place has some age on it too, so be careful walking around. 1st night there walking on the deck, my wife's boot heel went through a rotten deck board and she almost fell. Hopefully it's been fixed. Overall, we still enjoyed our stay and the owners were easy, nice people to work with. It just needs some polishing up.

Owner's Response: Oh no, this is definitely not the review I like to receive. I try my best to keep nature's critters and pests at bay however with all the recent rain I assume they are searching for a dry home. Another issue, is no matter how much I seal off crevices some guests prefer to leave the doors open for fresh air thus allowing complete open entry into the cabin. Again, I do my best to avoid these type of situations but sometimes they do happen especially since the cabin sits in the middle of the woods. My number is posted at the cabin, on the website and provided prior to guests staying, this is so that all guests have direct access to me. I do ask guests to call with any maintenance issues (such as the deck board and any other concern) and I will either personally come out or have someone sent to repair the issue depending on the urgency of the need. I do wish to remind future guests that it is a cabin, sitting in the woods on a hilly lot and heeled footwear may not be the most suitable for the terrain. I thank you for visiting the cabin and for the feedback.

We didn't want to leave!

  • 5 of 5

We needed a weekend away from being mom and dad, and some friends found this cabin for us. It was just lovely! Relaxing and peaceful - we spent some time in town and had some great food, and we were able to chill out and reconnect. Thank you!
