About the property

Pristine Site on Oswegatchie River,

Relax and enjoy yourself sitting on the porches overlooking the pristine 'Oswegatchie River'. Go swimming, rock hoping, and have a cool beverage while soaking in the many 'pools' in the Oswegatchie River. The River is 150' wide and has a rocky bottom with area of gentle rapids, rock outcrops, and pools. Upstream 1/4 mile is an area where you can launch a canoe easily and have many miles of canoeing and kayaking on the River.

Bring your boat and launch it at a state boat launch three miles away at the very scenic Lake Bonaparte. Enjoy a romantic evening at the outdoor fire pit or, on cooler nights, stoke up the glass-front woodstove. Enjoy a romantic walk through the woods and pine plantation on the 40 acre tract that the cabin is located on.

The cabin is absolutely charming, finished with all knotty pine inside, featuring a loft area, open living and kitchen area, half round log staircase and steps, and round log railings and post throughout cabin and porch areas. There is a Queen bed in lower bedroom, 1 full bed and 2 single beds in Loft area. The cabin is powered by new upgraded solar power with unlimited power. New in 2016 is Satellite TV, and WIFI.

The cabin site is located on a small point with a 180 degree view of the River. Majestic white pines along the river bank add to the beauty of this site. The cabin is accessed by a private gated road shared by four other camp owners. Cabin site is very private. There is an easy walk approach to the river shoreline. Swimming areas with flat rock ledge bottom. The new Firepit and landscaped area on waterfront is appealing and convienant.

Ride directly from Cabin 3 miles on legal open roads to Snowmobile Trail Head Parking Route S-84 access. This is located at the Harrisville Rod and Gun Club on the Middle Branch Road. There is huge parking area for trailers , a gas pump for sleds, and the Harrisville Rod and Gun Club for drinks and food. These trails are located on the Northern part of the great Lewis County trail system and connects to all trails to the south and toward Brantingham,Stillwater and Old forge if you want to travel far. The Long Pond Snowmobile Club maintains and grooms these northern Trails .

Enjoy dining and shopping at the home style restaurants and shops located in the Harrisville area better known as the 'Gateway to the Adirondacks'. There are large tracts of state land nearby for hiking and backwoods canoeing enthusiasts. An information packet is available to show the great hiking areas within 40 miles of cabin. Photos ,maps and descriptions of the trails ,locations of State Forests will be available. Also ask us about some secret gems of hikes to nearby waterfalls. Canoeing and Kayaking info packet will also be available .

Guided canoe ,kayak and hiking trips are available, Let us show you around the area, owner is a former Wilderness Ranger for NYS DEC, for a summer in the Five Ponds Wilderness Area. Day rates available.

The cabin and site is very unique and one of a kind. The sound of the River is always present. The site really is a gem and breathtaking, and, once you stay here, I know you'll want to come again.

This was a perfect cabin getaway. Beautiful location and cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Our experience was most definitely a 5 star vacation. We enjoyed everything about this trip. The cabin was beautiful and very obvious it was made with love and hard work. Ralph did a fantastic job. The location right on the water is breathtaking. We did some hiking at the Greenwood Creek State Forest about 20 minutes away. Perfect waterfalls and trails with lovely scenic views. It was amazing to be one with nature on this trip. Really puts into perspective how much we should be enjoying our everyday lives. Don't rush!!! Thank you so much Ralph for sharing your cabin with us and reminding us what it means to be content and peaceful. We will definitely be back!!

The property was simple beautiful.

  • 5 of 5

It was a time where 1 sister and 2 sister in laws needed to get together.

In finding out our mother was diagnosed with stage 4 bone cancer. Having such a great place to go to was what we all needed.

It was very clean. Did a lot of hiking, enjoyed being outside.

It was so peaceful

So we thank you for this lovely place

Disconnected Reboot

Impressions:

The trip is worth the drive time if what you're seeking is a rugged, functional cabin that has that 'off the grid' feeling without being too isolated. The cabin is rustic, provisioned with the basics and maintains all of the technology required for a comfortable visit: propane heat, solar powered lighting, fully equipped kitchen, wood stove (which I can't imagine using unless it's absolutely frigid outside) and Wifi. Even security is taken into account with a password locked driveway.

Cabin: Awesome. If you're really tall, like 6'4", you may wish for a King size bed but get over it. Easily sleeps 6-8. Privacy for 4. Two upstairs, 2 downstairs if you're traveling couples. Bathroom is tiny but functional and has its own heat source for those toasty morning wake ups. Don't pack for a trip to NYC or Vegas, pack as if you're going camping solo. The place was spotless upon arrival and there's plenty of cleaning products to leave it the same way. Kitchen: if you're really into your wine or booze bring a few camp mugs (tin) or some highball/wine glasses. Everything else is there. Make sure you bring all you need relative to ingredients as unlike more heavily used properties, there's hardly any left over inventory.

Bring ziplocks, wrap and foil for your leftovers. Bring a BB Gun. Bring bug spray - the bloodsuckers are aggressive! Axes are provided should you require campfire wood (essentially forest scrap wood). Bring a net bag and throw your beer (cans) in the river. No library - bring your own books!

Outdoors:

Awesome fire pit with plenty of seating just steps from the cabin with a built in grill. We didn't bother with the gas grill.

The river is accessible to wading, swimming, etc. I'd bring water Mocs and some sort and a lite rod if you fish. Bring a folding knife. Came in handy.

The property: Neighbors aren't far away and they might be home if you need help or you're going stir crazy. The land itself is hikable but stay aware - we found bear scat - three fresh piles and a place in the woods that was obviously a napping area for something in the 80-150lb range or larger. We followed a fresh path for a bit and made lots of noise.

Harrisville: Spartan and basic. Don't expect to find organic anything so bring your own. The stores in town have all the basics and they know each other and will point you to another purveyor that might have what you need.

Ralph. Great host!

Awesome trip!
