About The Owner

We are a family of writers and communicators based in Washington DC. Mom and Dad have been journalists since the late eighties...and there is a good chance that our son will follow in the family business. Writing is what we love to do. But it is also a deadline-intensive line of business. So every chance we get, we head for Deep Creek Lake and Writers' Refuge.

The Owner purchased this chalet in 1999

Why The Owner chose Deep Creek Lake

It is a chalet-style house and we fell in love with it the minute we drove up the drive way. It was off the beaten path while still being convenient to all the best the area has to offer. You are five minutes away form the the lake and the slopes. Or you can just curl up with a book in bed...or on the deck...and get lost in the rustic surroundings.

What makes this chalet unique

The chalet is completely surrounded by the woods...away from all distractions. The views are gorgeous...especially at night...especially from the hot tub when you lean your head back on a starry night.

Beautiful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

It is beautiful here all my children and grandchildren love this home too. From the minute we stepped in that's what it felt like home. We so appreciate the owners attention to detail. Would recommend this home to anyone seeking spiritual renew and relaxation from the grind. To the owners thanks a lot for everything.

Our stay was very relaxing and peaceful. We had 10 people total but the house was more than enough room. Its secluded enough to be at peace, but also very near the lake, which was just a short drive away. Several kitchen pantry items were available. The hot tub was a hit :) We grilled all our meals then watched movies which were provided in the basement; great selection. The owner was hands on and very good at communicating. Property was clean, but since its surrounded by trees, some leaves flew in and of course, moths and bugs. But that happens when you live with nature :) There was only one shower on ground level, but the upstairs bathroom only has a tub. I would definitely recommend this property to a friend/relative. I am already planning my next stay at this property during the winter season! Thank you, Patty!

A group of friends and I had a weekend getaway here. The house was absolutely beautiful. The property was gorgeous as well. The owner was so amazing. She was very prompt with any questions we had. I could not have asked for a better weekend. The pups loved it as well. Just an overall great trip. We plan on coming back here for future visits!

Wonderful time had by all

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a wonderful few days a Deep Creek Lake/Wisp. The home was very warm and welcoming and had everything we needed. The kitchen was very functional with all the pots and pans, coffee maker, blender, etc needed. The dining space was lovely with a great view of the trees and a small creek in the background. The windows in this home allow for a wonderful view of the snow that fell the majority of time we were there.

The bedrooms were inviting and the kids liked that they were able to have 2 beds each in the downstairs bedroom. Our bedroom on the main level was very comfortable and cozy. Our dog even made himself at home...squirrel watching.

The owners of the home were easy to get a hold of and responded in a timely manner via emails.

I would recommend this home to someone who is looking for a relaxing time to unwind and "un-plug" from the day in-day out routine. We got a lot of quality family time on this short vacation.

Comfortable, convenient, and private

  • 5 of 5

Quiet location feels secluded but close to state parks, stores and restaurants. Kitchen is not featured in photos but it's great - appliances and countertops especially. Washer/dryer are great. Plenty of comfortable and relaxing space for our family. This house is listed as pet-friendly, and I'm sure it is, but even with my sensitive nose, I detected no pet smells. The house is well kept and they have a good selection of dvds.

Our stay was too short but we enjoyed Firefly Creamery, Mountain State Brewery, Archie's Barbecue, Brenda's Pizza, DCL State Park, Swallow Falls, our own home-cooked meals, a movie, the hot tub, and relaxing on the deck. Thanks for sharing your house with us!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the response, Rebecca and family. We recently put new carpeting in the family room downstairs and put in all new sliding glass doors--last year we put in new stainless appliances and washer/dryer set--so appreciate the shout out for the kitchen and no-pet smell. We're glad ya'll had a great time. We love to share our house with people and love it when people discover Western MD--we have so many great memories there and love it when others can enjoy the house and surroundings. Come back and visit--return guests get big discounts at Writers Refuge!
