Does not understand how Homeaway works front a renter's perspective

I have never had a poor experience at a Homeaway location and I hate writing negative reviews, but I thought it was critical to do so in the case to let other travelers know what they're getting into. My review is about:

- Fees/Deposit that are not stated upfront with this property until after the owner confirms

- Extremely poor customer service on the last night of our stay regarding total payment of the house

The entire cost of the house and all fees/expenses SHOULD be included in the stated/upfront rental cost of the house. The owner has 24hrs to confirm your request at which time you are charged for the house and the cancellation policy/penalties apply. Only AFTER the owner confirmed my stay at this property did I receive a contract saying that there was a large deposit required (not stated in description) which I could pay through international wire (which is a fee) or in cash on my arrival. Fortunately we are well to do and were able to provide this money in cash on our arrival but nonetheless it made me uneasy to provide cash and is always an inconvenience to locate the owner on the last day of your trip, to do a walk through, and to get your money back.

On the last day of our stay when we asked for our deposit; the owner replied to us that we were in fact deficient in payment for the home to the tune of hundreds of eur! Keep in mind at this point we have not only paid the full cost of the house when we booked but also an additional large cash deposit upon our arrival! The reason? The owner said he did not show the money being deposited from Homeaway from my initial booking a week earlier (which he accepted). I don't need to explain to Homeaway users how ridiculous this sounds - we all know we are charged UPFRONT when booking, and regardless the renter is not liable for payment mishaps between Homeaway, the payment processor, or the owner. The owner called Homeaway to resolve (while we lost an hour out of our last day not hanging out with our friends), and the operator not only restated that I paid a week prior when he confirmed, but that he could not hold us liable for his issue. Suffice to say I did not imagine the last trip of my alpine vacation would be spent arguing with the owner of a house as to whether I had paid for a PREPAID HOUSE and begging to get my cash deposit that wasn't in the homeaway description...the reason I was accused of nonpayment was because when searching for my confirmation email he was spelling my name wrong!

Owner's Response: We would like to apologize for all the inconveniences regarding your stay. Since you have booked in very short term, the payment information simply intersected. It takes about a couple of days if we received the money and the confimation E-mail from holidaypaments. We do not use the online reservation on homeaway for so long and we are not so quite experienced. That should not be to the disadvantage of the guest. It was not our intention and we didn't intend to deliberately calculate too much money or not pay the cash back, we know it was a trouble for you. Furthermore, all the costs are shown and transparent. This means that you can see the extra coast and prices in the texts, as well in the offer over the homeaway website and as well on our homepage detailed. We would like to apologize for the not so happy payment processing. We certainly did not want to upset you. Anyway we hope that you like your stay and the apartemnt.

Great property in a great location!

We have actually stated at these apartments a few times previously and this time was as lovely as the others. The apartments are spacious and very accommodating with everything we needed in the kitchen. The location is perfectly nestled against the hills on the edge of town but still well within walking distance of everything in downtown Partinkirchen. The owners are always friendly and responsive and are happy to make us feel right at home. We highly recommend this apartment to anybody and we will be sure to return any time we are back in Garmisch.

tolle Ferienwohnung mit bestem Blick

sehr schöne große Ferienwohnung. Es war sehr sauber und ordentlich, es fehlte an nichts.

Perfekt fanden wir die Lage, den Blick vom Balkon über Garmisch Partenkirchen. Der Vermieter hatte uns äusserst höflich empfangen, alles Notwendige erklärt und hinterliß einen sehr professionellen Eindruck.

Wir möchten diesen Aufenthalt gerne wiederholen.

Ein Ferientraum

Diese Ferienwohnung war für meine Frau und mich ein einziger Traum. Wir wollten es nicht glauben, aber hier stimmt einfach alles. Der Zuschnitt der Wohnung, die wunderbare Innenausstattung, kein Kunststoff, stattdessen viel Holz und deswegen ein angenehmes Raumklima, eine atemberaubende Fernsicht vom Wohnzimmer und Balkon und Betten, in denen man himmlisch schlafen kann. Eigentlich dürfte ich das hier gar nicht so schreiben, denn wenn es sich rumspricht, ist die Fewo das nächste Mal möglicherweise schon belegt, aber andererseits wollten wir das phantastische Erlebnis auch nicht für uns behalten :-)

Superb!

Landhaus Pitzner is a captivating place. It is situated on the side of a mountain (literally built into the rock) with panoramic views of the town and the Zugspitze. The house is quiet and serene yet within easy walking distance of restaurants, shops and hiking trails. For our family of four adults (two old and two young), it was the perfect base for relaxing and for touring.

Our apartment was spacious, clean and well-equipped. The expansive design layout and the use of luxury building materials demonstrated the care in craftsmanship. Little details such as the heated floors, the crisp white linens, the motion-sensor lights in the foyer, the tapestry wallpaper in the foyer, the wood carvings on the balcony railings, the use of natural lighting throughout the unit and the high-end kitchen appliances added to the feeling of luxury.

Our host, Christian, was wonderfully helpful throughout the booking process and during our entire stay. He took the time to answer all of our booking questions from overseas; he greeted us personally upon arrival and helped us settle into our apartment; he showed us around. Thank you, Christian, for making us feel so welcome.
