Nice location, good amenities

  • 4 of 5

We had a nice trip and stay at this property near Traverse City, MI. We had 6 adults in our group, and the house felt a bit cramped for this number. Overall the house seems better suited for a family with children (2 bunk beds on the lower level are a little more difficult for adults). The house had almost everything we needed, except wine glasses, but we left a set for future guests! The kitchen was small but adequate for our needs. The living area furniture was a bit worn and sparse, but was adequate. The air conditioning was nice and cold and very much appreciated during some high temps. The washer and dryer were also very nice and much appreciated.

The area was really nice. It's about 15-20 minutes into Traverse City proper, and there is a nice grocery store about 7-8 minutes towards town. The lake is peaceful and the neighborhood is nice and quiet. I would not recommend this place if you are planning on having a wild party, as the area seems much better suited for a quiet and relaxing vacation with family and/or friends. The beach area was clean and really fun for us and our dog. The included kayaks were in good usable condition and were a fun way to explore the lake. We did not use the rowboat, it looked a little aged but appeared to be in good usable condition. The stand up paddleboard is fairly basic and more of a sit up paddleboard. You will also have to make do with a kayak paddle to use it.

Overall I would say this is probably a property best suited for a family trip versus a larger group of adults. The pricing is appropriate, and while there are aspects that could use some updating that would put it over the top, this is a nice rental that I will definitely consider again for future trips.

Great location, kids had a lot of fun, bedding not clean

  • 4 of 5

I would have given a 5 star were it not for the uncleaned bedding. The pillowcases and pillow smell really bad. I contacted the owner the next day and she immediately purchased new bedding.

The kids had a lot of fun with the kayak. The house also has everything you need for a lake front vacation.

relaxed and family-friendly location

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed staying at this house. The lake was so much fun for swimming and kayaking. The small road between the house and the beach was easily navigable for the children with us.

Arbutus lake home stay July 2017

  • 3 of 5

My Review will have to be a mixed review with both positives and negatives.

I will start with the positives: My family of 5 along with our dog stayed at this home.

The lake is gorgeous!

We had several beautiful sun sets during our July 2017 stay.

The owners offer 3 kayaks, an older type paddle board, & a row boat. All conveniently available with oars, and life jackets. The use of the kayaks was by far the best part of the stay. We truly enjoyed being on this lake. There's also a floating dock close by, that is an easy swim from the shore. This was fun for my boys to jump off, and the water is warm.

Also the small sandy beach has a fire pit and plenty of basic plastic chairs, to lounge on.

The owners made sure the home was clean at our arrival and had all beds made and ready for us. (I'm stressing this because I've stayed at places that have the linens ready for you to place on beds when you arrive!)....(Not exactly what you feel like doing after a long travel day!!

The kitchen: I'll have to give it mixed reviews, it had plenty of pots and pans, cooking utensils,

Plates which are not microwaveable! Plenty of drinking glasses, and cutlery. But there's no Dish washer! And only 1 wine glass, and only 2 coffee mugs!!! Also the sink does not have a sprayer, to help do dishes!!

Those are some of the negatives.

This is a basic home, the seating is adequate, but lacked basic comforts like an end table next to the couch would have been nice! And possibly a larger comfortable couch would've been nice too. But I realize this is a business and things are all about $$$. Just making suggestions to be helpful.

There are 2 bathrooms. The bathroom next to the master bedroom, has the smallest shower I've ever used! I actually dreaded taking showers in it.

The downstairs bathroom and bedroom is connected by a gated spiral staircase. I appreciated that we could block our older dog from attempting the stairs!! The larger downstairs bedroom and bathroom is set up with 2 twin bunk beds. It worked out for us, but was lacking in a basic bath rug, and towels were slightly scarce.

All in all it's about family so certain things we let slide. I'm only making a few comments so it could be better improved upon.

We enjoyed being close to Traverse city. Cherry fest is our favorite time to be here. The home was basically a good place to stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you Karen! We're glad you enjoyed your stay in our family cottage. We enjoy renting it out to other families to use! It sounds like our coffee mugs are starting to disappear :/ we'll be sure to restock. Thank you for the helpful suggestions. I renovated the home personally last summer while pregnant... redoing the kitchen was something we considered but wasn't in our one month timeline for renovations. Always something for the future! :) The Pinehurst Trail resort homes are older, without modern conveniences like a dishwasher, but we find their simplicity charming. We hope you'll come again! Safe travels!

Arbutus Lake is stunning! The cabin has everything you need.

  • 4 of 5

The cabin itself is decent with all the essentials that one needs for everyday living.

We loved the kayaks and the paddle board. Arbutus Lake #1 is the perfect size to explore. Fishing is also good. Enjoyable temperature for swimming.
