Sunnyside 1 is 120 m2 large and is located on the 1. level. The apartment has a large, open fireplace, an original, very wide and old wooden hallway (1904) and is light and sunny. It has a Mediterranean charm and is very tastefully furnished with antiques. Through a large hallway you will get to the 3 bedrooms, 1 dining-fireplace room, 1 eat-in kitchen and 1bathroom with a free standing bathtub. The apartment has 3 wonderful bedrooms with double beds and antique furniture. From 2 bedrooms you will have access to the balconies. The large east-facing balcony is perfect for breakfasts with the sunrise. One of the bedrooms is so big (35 m2) that an extra cot would be possible for 2 children, or you can use it as another living/work room. The vacation apartment has a very beautiful, undisturbed patio with a Hollywood swing in a large garden. Whether you are together as 2 or 8, this beautiful and spacious vacation apartment has made all of our previous guests feel comfortable.
Our stunning country villa 'Sunnyside' is located on a vineyard between forests and fields above the Pillnitz Castle. You will live in a lovely renovated cultural landmark surrounded by a 6000 m2 vast garden with a lot of fruit trees, patios and fire pits. In the garden you can play table tennis, in front of the house boules. The vacation apartments are located on the 2nd and 3rd floors with separate entrances. They are very tastefully furnished with antiques. You will have a wonderful view of the scenery from all rooms and balconies. If you like to be in South France or Tuscany and prefer a demanding, artistic ambiance, then you will feel very comfortable here. You can go on beautiful hikes right from in front of the front door for 'Sunnyside'. Each apartment has a large compound with an absolutely undisturbed seat with a Hollywood swing. City center - 25 min. to the city center with a car, Pillnitz Castle in 4 MIn.
Further information about the apartment: For people who are looking for tranquility and inspiration, but also for families that value diverse excursions and prefer a beautiful surrounding where they can come back to every day and where they can stay without being bored - our vacation apartment is ideal for everyone. We have designed so that it is like the vacation that we had with our daughter in southern France and Tuscany, with a lot of attention to detail and an unobtrusive charm that gives you space to feel comfortable. There are countless possibilities on the property to play, relax and if you visit us next fall, then to eat unsprayed apples from the mixed orchards.
Further information: If you walk along the Poeten path for 10 minutes from the house, you will get to a look out point called 'Zuckerhut'. From here you will have a stunning view of the historical city center of Dresden and the Frauenkirche. You can go horseback riding by multiple stables nearby.
Further details: The house has a moving story and was built in 1904 by a family of nobility from Bültzingslöwen. Until 120, it was a lively meeting point for artists and communal circles from Dresden. For example the Brookhaus family, the artist Paula Modersohn Becker with her husband Otto Modersohn, Russian opera divas and celebrated pianists. Authors, bankers, publishers and artists all have regular entries in the old guestbook. The property was restored with care and preservation and serves as an important cultural landmark belonging to the city of Dresden.
What a fantastic holiday! Dresden is a magnificant city and especially so at Christmas with its old-world charm and Christmas market (dating back to the 15th c.), exceptional Semper Oper performances (we saw Hansel and Gretel), church concerts and charming Christmas candles or brightly lit stars adorning every window in the city. The surrounding villages are quaint and inviting, with friendly people everywhere who are genuinely happy to have visitors. And Pillnitz -- hometown for the villa -- is a short 20-minute drive from Dresden.
Our hosts, Peter and Harriet and their daughter Rebecca, were amazing... most gracious, welcoming and just altogether lovely people! They all went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Harriet got the opera tickets for us in advance (a must, as they sell out quickly), and Peter kindly escorted us to the local grocery to help us buy food for Christmas Eve. They even decorated a beautiful live Christmas tree for our livingroom in the villa. Then, on Christmas day, Rebecca offered to be our guide and drove with us to the Saxony Switzerland mountains -- which I highly recommend seeing.
The villa itself was perfect. The four of us stayed in Sunnyside 1 and I was amazed at how spacious yet cozy the rooms were. The photographs on the website hardly do it justice. The view was magnificent... overlooking the Elbe river and Dresden in the valley below. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed for preparing light snacks or brewing coffee in the morning. And the bathroom had a real shower!
All in all, the Sunnyside villa exceeded our expectations, and I would recommend this lovely home-away-from-home to anyone. My husband and I plan to return and stay in the garden house on our next trip.
We spent a wonderful week here with our three children aged 6, 4 and 3. The accommodation is spacious and bright with a perfect mix of charm and comfort. The "mummy and daddy bedroom" is enormous with amazing views.
The property is on top of a hill, making you feel that you have escaped the hustle and bustle of the world. Great walks can be found on your doorstep and a park and retaurant a little further up the hill. A brilliant location in between Dresden and Saxon Switzerland (20 mins to both) and lots of other days out close by. This is a beautiful part of Germany to discover and explore.
Harriet and Peter have created a truly lovely place to stay here, with care and attention to detail, we will most definitely return.
An absolutely, secluded location in a nature park reserve with romantic hiking trails by the front door. Here you follow the traces of Weber and Wagner, relax by streams and regenerate yourself in one of the scenic excursion inns. Nearby you will find the hunting paths of August the Strong and his palace Pillnitz with a fantastic palace garden. From 'Sunnyside' downstream by the Elb, you can reach the historical city center of Dresden with all of its cultural treasures like the Semper Opera, painting gallery from the green arches or the lively new district with a 25 minute drive. Upstream, only 12km away is the national park 'Saxon Switzerland', our Elbe Sandstone Mountains, the absolute paradise for those who like to hike and climb. Here you will also find open-air theaters, the cliff stage Rathen and ponds for boating. A clean, large lake for swimming is located 8 km away. The Stolpen castle is 12 km away, hunting castle Moritzburg 18 km, stable and renaissance castle Schönfeld 1 km.
Other Activities: climbing in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains
Golf: A golf course is located in Ullersdorf - 10 km away.
Ski: You can go skiing directly from in front of the house! This possibility exists for cross country skiers. Descents can be reached in the Erz Mountains about a 45 minute drive away, here you will find multiple small ski areas with about 2-4 decents with different levels of difficulty. Skis and accessories can be rented. You can also go sledding at the two great decents by the mountain by our house (length: 400 and 800 m on the nearby mountain) towards the Elbe. Sleds and cross country skis are available for you!
