Bring the bikes! Summer Cottage - Open from mid-May to mid-October. Get away from it all and live the simple life in this 'tiny house' cottage. At just under 400 ft.², This quirky beachy-themed cottage offers tranquility while being located just minutes from the entrance to Hammonasset State Park Beach. Enjoy easy access to go for a stroll along the marshes on the park's walking trail or bring your bikes to explore the many roads & trails of beautiful beaches, wildlife scenery and ocean views in the park. Located between the quaint and picturesque New England sea towns of Clinton and Madison, a short drive brings you to either Main Street – featuring restaurants, coffee shops and shopping. Stop & Shop, Ocean State Job Lot, and CVS are located nearby for your convenience if you'd like to pick something up for the grill or need an extra beach towel or sunscreen. And for those who really love shopping, don't forget to check out the nearby Tanger Outlets in Westbrook and Clinton Crossing Outlets in Clinton.
The Cottage sleeps two adults comfortably in a queen size bed. The living room's couch pulls out to a full size bed for extra guests or children. please bring your own sheets and towels as linens are not supplied.
Internet access is supplied along with a variety of DVDs books, puzzles and board games. A small cooler and two beach chairs are available for renters' use. Enjoy a leisurely game outside on the lawn of bocce ball.
The tv in the main living area is a Roku tv with apps offering a variety shows and movies, pbs, news, and access to your own Netflix account or you may use the provided 'Cottage Channel' on Netflix. The tv in the living room also has basic cable channels and DVD player. The tv in the bedroom has basic cable channels.
The cottage is within walking distance of famous 'Lenny and Joe's' seafood restaurant, complete with ice cream stand and vintage carousel for the kids. Google Lenny and Joe's Fishtale Madison for photos and info!
There is room for you to bring your own bikes to hang or store on the porch (bikes shown in photos not included), and you may use the garden fence rack for storing /locking bikes. A card table and 2 extra chairs are available for extra seating, games or dining. Parking is for 1 car in the driveway. If you have additional cars, you may park them on the central 'green' across from the cottage near the Sea Breeze sign.
We hope you enjoy your stay exploring the state park, beaches, quaint New England sea towns and delicious area restaurants. We – the owners live in the area, and like to refer to it fondly as 'Pleasantville!'
Note from owner: The Cottages' rules require each party's rental period to be a minimum of 1 week long – this means a 6-night minimum stay is preferable. However in the fall season (Sept-Oct), we can sometimes accommodate 3-night minimum bookings, but only if the remainder of the week has not already been reserved. This will allow me to block out the entire week for your rental, and I will not allow any other rentals for the remainder of your week. Please send an inquiry with your preferred dates to confirm availability.
a. Smoking is not permitted inside the Cottage.
b. Pets are not permitted - sorry, this is per the cottage association rules - no exceptions
c. There is no heat in the Cottage and space heaters are prohibited.
d. Parking - there is ONE parking space. Any guests should park on the lawn across from the cottage (where the Sea Breeze sign is located)
e. Linens are not provided. Please bring your own sheets and towels.
f. The storage loft is for the sole use of storage space for the owner and is off limits to the renters. Do not attempt to access the loft.
g. Using the bike rack(s) is at your own risk. Owner not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged bikes.
h. Outdoor Grill: use at your own risk. Extinguish all flames after use. Keep fires a safe distance from houses and trees.
i. The maximum number of persons is 4
j. No tents or campers allowed in yard/on the property
k. No swimming pools are to be set up on the grounds of the property
l. No campfires / wood burning fire pits / chimneas
m. NOTE: You may notice a decrease in hot water temperature after 11 p.m. - this is because the cottage association's hot water heater is on a timer and switches off for several nighttime hours to conserve energy.
n. You acknowledge our family cat occasionally stays at this property
The bike ride from the Cottage to the beach is approximately 1.3 miles. You must cross a busy street with traffic (route 1) to get there. There is no fee to enter the beach by bike. Children under age 16 must wear a helmet according to CT state law.
To avoid crossing the busy street with your bike and still enter the beach by bike for free, you can park your car at no charge in the dirt parking lot at the trail entrance (across from Lenny & Joe's).
To enter the beach road by car, and drive all the way to the water, there is a parking fee, $22 weekends and $15 weekdays (2018 rates for out-of-state license plates.) Each day you must pay the fee as you enter. However This will allow you to park closest to the beach and bathroom facilities.
