About Stephanie Hardisty

I started my vacation home business, Beach Chic Living, out of a desire to provide a great place for my scattered family to come and stay. After traveling on business throughout the world, I truly felt Daytona Beach was one of the best places I had ever been so I purchased my own vacation home here. I decided to rent out that home when I was traveling, and realized I had created something that people really liked! Soon, my guests and family needed a larger place to stay and so I found the a large historic home on the Halifax river. I fell in love with the history and unique benefits this house had to offer. While it was an ambitious renovation, I had help from the local community and was blessed with the good fortune to find some local craftsman who guided us through every stage of the renovation. We are thrilled with the results and hope you are as well. Here you will find comfort and style in a historic setting in the heart of downtown Daytona.

Stephanie Hardisty purchased this house in 2011

Why Stephanie Hardisty chose Daytona Beach

As we updated the bungalow, we asked ourselves what would make us happy and comfortable if we wanted a stress free vacation. That question drove every decision that we made during renovations. Our family also uses this as their home away from home.

What makes this house unique

Look out the front door and you can see the ocean! When the windows are open you can hear the surf!

Great friendly neighbors that will give you their opinion on the best 'real' local Daytona- not the tourist traps.

We also love the Saturday fireworks on the boardwalk. Happens all during the summer at sunset. Most of the locals walk to the beach with their glass of wine and watch the sunset from the beach. Great fun!

Cute house and great deal!!!

  • 5 of 5

This was such a cute house. It was great for our family. It is close to everything and on a quiet street. Scott was great and made sure we had everything we needed. My teenager loved having a big tv and Xbox to play on at night and when it rained. The hot tub was nice at night. For the deal we got with this place we were able to enjoy Daytona even more. I would recommend for couples or families with older kids.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much! Scott and I restored the house ourselves- well mostly Scott, and we take a lot of pride in providing a peaceful environment for our guests. Dayton is great and we hope to see you next year!!

Enjoyed it but didn't meet my expectations

  • 3 of 5

It was nice that Stephanie allowed us to check in 2 hours before time when we were getting there.

The problem was that I am a visual person and in the rental pictures it seems that there is 3 rooms.... I noticed that the back splash of the bed was the same, but the bed spreads were different, the positioning of the bed in the room was different, the rest of the furniture was positioned different, even the lighting was different.... (very deceiving...) so I assumed (my mistake) that there were 3 beds - since it said that it slept 6, but I didn't read the description below (my mistake)

When we got there, there were only 2 rooms, each with 1 bed inside (sleeps 4, right?) we started looking and found an inflatable mattress on a corner. There is really no space to put it anywhere in the house, unless you take the entire living room.... so we ended up putting 1 person on the sofa and cramping 3 in 1 of the beds to be able to fit for sleeping and still have space to walk around.

Also, it said that there were bikes in the shed, but they were not there... They did have a wagon with lots of sand toys and a nice beach chair and we enjoyed that a lot.

Then the hot tub was way too hot, 110 degrees Fahrenheit instead of the maximum for a hot tub 104. Then we tried to lower the temperature following the instructions but it never went down. In the heat of the summer I was expecting for it to be much cooler.

It also said pet friendly, but there is no grass at all, not backyard, just a very small hallway and the wood deck on the side, where the hot tub is, that is all. On top of that there is not a secured fence around the property... a dog of any size will be able to get out..... It made it really hard.

Then it listed 1.5 bathrooms - which everywhere in the world means 2 sinks and 2 toilets but only 1 shower, right? Well, she meant 1 extra shower, outside of the house with no curtain, to be that 1/2 bathroom...

Also, I thought it was smoke free (I don't remember if I checked that-I might have assumed again...) but the master bedroom had a smoke smell in it.

I think that if you list this property as for maybe 5 guests with 1 bathroom and no pets (or pets with the disclaimer of the conditions offered), it will work better and it will meet the expectations of the renters better.

We loved the proximity to the beach - only 1/4 of a mile, the neighborhood was quite and it felt safe, the house was perfectly clean (with the exception of a 'water' stain

Owner's Response: With over 27 positive reviews I guess it is reasonable to expect that not everyone can be pleased. I'm so very disappointed that this guest chose to write a review like this rather then calling us to voice her concerns and allow us to address each of her concerns. I wonder if she got this listing confused with a Bungalow we had two doors down? It does have three bedrooms and a fenced in yard. The furniture and lighting in the Beach Bungalow is EXACTLY as pictured By law hot tubs are not allowed to be set above 104 degrees and we have a guidebook with how to adjust the temperature? I have never had a pet owner complain about our yard area. Again the listing two doors down have a fenced in yard while the Beach Bungalow has a large deck. I really think the guest got the listing confused. As an appeal on behalf of hosts please call if something is not to your liking . I've had guest call when they wanted a specific kitchen utensil or despite the instructions, can't figure our the TV or remote. We always satisfy any reasonable request We are always available by text or phone. We would have been happy to switch this guest to our other property if available, or rearrange the furniture more to her liking..Thank you

Feel Confident That the Oversight I Mention Would Not Happen Again and Make This a 5 Star Place!

  • 4 of 5

Bit of a rocky start when we arrived to find someone else's large bottle of half drank soda in fridge. No room for it with all our groceries & not a big deal to get rid of it ourselves. I only mention it because we also found the top drawer in master bedroom filled w/ men's underwear and that was a little much! Eww, Was wondering how such a thing could have been overlooked. We called Scott who came promptly to remove the drawers from the drawer. Other than that, the house was clean, cute and comfortable. It was just as described altho' I'm not sure I'd advertise an outdoor unenclosed shower as a half bath. (?) We enjoyed the cat that clamored to come in whenever we were home & often even slept with us...she just didn't want to leave! There was a bowl w/ cat food remnants outside the door. We left Scott voice mail asking if it was alright to feed her altho' we didn't see any cat food in the house. We did not get a response. Each day when we left, she'd run off down the street so presume she was getting fed somewhere as she appeared healthy. When we were there, were only a few chairs on the spacious deck. We had to bring a couple from inside the house to seat our couple of guests & the nice neighborhood kids that joined us one evening. Being a lover of outdoor living, this would have lowered my rating to 3.5 stars (if there were such a rating). I looked at your updated pics and see that you have since added some furniture so left it at 4 stars. My suggestion would be to add an outdoor light. Can't remember if there wasn't one or it just wasn't bright enough to read by. All in all, it was a great place where we would stay again. Aloha, J n' Stan.

Owner's Response: Hi Thanks for these thoughtful suggestions. Since you wrote this we have changed cleaning services--I've taken over the day to day management as Scott is working many hours ( I'm Scott's Mom) Puma the cat you mention has decided this is her home and will not move even though her owner has :) We tell our guests so ignore her or feed her as they see fit. Have gotten the outside light above the back door fixed. Motion sensor lights in Florida just don't stand up to the salt air. Hope to see you soon!

Pure perfection!

  • 5 of 5

Came down for a family vacation. The house was,all that we expected and more. My family enjoy all amenities offered. Deck, grill, hottub in addition too to the location. Close by everything Daytona has to offer, beach, boardwalk, supermarket, souvenir shops, etc. The neighborhood was quiet and safe and Stephanie (owner) was always available for request and recommendations. Will definitely stay again, next visit to Daytona Beach.
