About Kimberli Taylor

This cabin us built in 1956 by William Bell were he lived till he passed away, I am now the property owner and would love to see it enjoyed by those that are looking to escape the city and get back to nature, a place to unplug and reconnect with your spirit, kids and heart.

Kimberli Taylor purchased this cabin in 1956

Why Kimberli Taylor chose Gold Country / High Sierra

I am most at home in the mountains and have lived here 37 years. The Pinehurst area provides the mountain environment while being reasonably close to the cities of Visalia and Fresno. This particular property is nestled amongst the, cedars, and oaks and is right off the main road to Kings Canyon. Wildlife are attracted to the creek which flows seasonally through the property.

What makes this cabin unique

Peace, quiet, and seclusion, opportunities for walking, birding, horseback riding, and nature study. Artists (writers, painters, musician and composers) will enjoy the opportunity for introspection. Close to Dunlap (archery center) parasailing and hang gliding (Dunlap flight park) General Grant Grove of Giant Sequoias, and Giant Sequoia National Monument.

I also allow well behaved pet's $15.00 to $25.00 dollars per pet per night pet need to be house broken and well behaved, pets are not to be lift in the cabin when guest leave, if you don't want to take your pet on your outing, you can leave them in the kennel that I have provided for them.

Summer is here and what a great summer we're looking forward to rivers and lakes are all full! A great season for wildflowers and the blossom trail is already in full bloom, I hope to see you here soon! You can also fine more info on my Shady Glen Facebook page. Enjoy setting on the deck with a cup of coffee hot tea, maybe a glass of wine or cold beer watch the stars at night or greet the sun in the morning with the visiting birds that visit the feeders. Fire season is about to start, it wont be long before there will be a banned on camp fires,

Good news the road going in to the cabin has been fixed, so no more ruts to maneuver around.

A beautiful cabin, and we would definitely stay there again!

  • 5 of 5

This was a nice and peaceful experience for my family. Getting away from busy work life in San Diego to a nice and quiet comfort cabin atmosphere is what my family and I needed! I was impressed with Kimberli customer service needs, I mean she basically ensured the cabin was stocked with clean blankets, bathroom towels, family board games, cooking pots, BBQ grill, etc.…

I love how each day was filled with nothing but sounds from nature wildlife, and I love watching the woodpeckers, quail’s and other miscellaneous birds I’m unfamiliar with feeding on the feeders outside the cabin. It was very peaceful! We were very fortunate to see a couple of deer’s, one large pheasant & plenty of chubby ground squirrels. Kimberli did mention black bears and a giant owl but we never had the opportunity to see either of those. Furthermore, we did see a rattlesnake on our last day at the cabin but it did not bother us and we could see it through the window inside the cabin. We were not frighten nor bothered, so we left it alone in its natural habitat. I just thought it was cool to see.

On day number one, Kimberli stopped for a visit to ensure we were pleased and she was helpful with informing us on all the parks and camps that were nearby. By the way, the highway is very curvy so be patient and vigilant while driving the roads! All in all, Kings Canyon visitor center is about a 30-minute drive, and Hume Lake was about 45 to 50-minute drive. Believe me it’s worth the drive and I promise the Sequoia National Park is worth seeing because I found the sequoia trees to be amazing!

At any rate, the cabin was in great shape and well maintained by Kimberli. Please ensure that your vehicle and tires are in great shape because there are no maintenance services for at least 20 miles and most of the roads, especially at the cabin is paved with small rocks so expect that. Overall, I give Kimberli 5 stars, so thumbs up to a beautiful cabin!

Owner's Response: WOW Thank you so much for such a wonderful review, I hope you all get a chance to come back! It concerns me about the rattle snake, although there's nothing I can do about the rattlers but advice and warn guest of the danger, it's good you got to observe this from the inside of the cabin, know one has ever seen one at the cabin before, at less that I know of. Thank you again for such a wonderful review Kimberli

Wonderful weekend!

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I used the Shady Glen as a home base for a hiking tour of Sequoia and Kings Canyon. The location was ideal with easy access to both parks and the cabin VERY comfortable. It was fully furnished with LOTS of home touches like spacious, comfy furniture, a very well-stocked kitchen, a lovely screened deck area with great wildlife watching, many helpful books about the Sierra, games and videos. Kimberli reached out to us several times while we were there, to be sure we had what we needed. She had prepared things well enough we did not need more, but it was nice to have the extra attention. We recommend the Shady Glen!

Most scenic house I've ever been to... a dream!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Kimberli's house as a staging place to explore Seqouia and King's Canyon NPs and it turned out to be the perfect place to stay. Its proximity to the NP entrance makes it anyway ideal, but we were simply not prepared for the sheer beauty and serenity of the place. Watching ground squirrels and birds and deer feed at dusk from the window, collecting blackberries for breakfast down at the creek or just hang out on the property admiring the place, we had a great time with our two kids. They still often mention the house as a fond memory. Kimberli was an excellent host, very helpful in all matters, I wish we could go back to this hidden paradise one day. It all these were not enough, the interior is well equipped and simply lovely with all that wood and warm colored tapestry and textiles, we felt like home immediately.

A home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Shady Glen is a beautiful home! It is well equipped with all the amenities required to make it through your daily routine, just like when at home. There is only one bathroom, and that might be something to think about, however we managed.

Thank you Kimberli for a great experience of enjoying your outdoor too with so many different kind of birds, squirrels, peacock, peahen, and baby bear sighting!👍?

Nice base for visiting Sequoia/Kings Canyon

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely and cozy cabin with all the basic supplies in secluded forest near the parks. We saw deer, a peacock, and lots of other beautiful birds. It's a wild place and there are bears around, though we didn't see any, probably because we had our Great Pyrenees keeping watch on the deck. Our family had a great trip and we highly recommend this cabin as a peaceful base for exploring the parks. Thanks Kimberli!

Cozy secluded cabin

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Shady Glen Cabin. The inside was comfortable and clean. The rooms were well decorated and charming, plus there was plenty of information available about the National Parks. You can tell that Kimberli puts a lot of thought into her guest's stay. The cabin is well-stocked with both necessities and items for leisure. There was a large selection of movies to choose from and also an assortment of books for longer stays. The mosquito net was nice and we enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the wildlife. The sunset was a beautiful sight as it peeked out amidst the tall trees.

My husband was worried about the swamp cooler because he has suffered from heat strokes in the past, but it worked great and he had no complaints. All of us slept really well at night and thus were well rested for our day trips into the park.

The drive toward the park and to the cabin was my first taste of mountain driving, and though it was a tad nerve wracking at first, I quickly adjusted. The area is too beautiful to miss and we would love to stay here again in the future!
