About Kimberli Taylor

This cabin us built in 1956 by William Bell were he lived till he passed away, I am now the property owner and would love to see it enjoyed by those that are looking to escape the city and get back to nature, a place to unplug and reconnect with your spirit, kids and heart.

Kimberli Taylor purchased this cabin in 1956

Why Kimberli Taylor chose Gold Country / High Sierra

I am most at home in the mountains and have lived here 37 years. The Pinehurst area provides the mountain environment while being reasonably close to the cities of Visalia and Fresno. This particular property is nestled amongst the, cedars, and oaks and is right off the main road to Kings Canyon. Wildlife are attracted to the creek which flows seasonally through the property.

What makes this cabin unique

Peace, quiet, and seclusion, opportunities for walking, birding, horseback riding, and nature study. Artists (writers, painters, musician and composers) will enjoy the opportunity for introspection. Close to Dunlap (archery center) parasailing and hang gliding (Dunlap flight park) General Grant Grove of Giant Sequoias, and Giant Sequoia National Monument.

I also allow well behaved pet's $15.00 to $25.00 dollars per pet per night pet need to be house broken and well behaved, pets are not to be lift in the cabin when guest leave, if you don't want to take your pet on your outing, you can leave them in the kennel that I have provided for them.

A beautiful cabin, and we would definitely stay there again!

  • 5 of 5

This was a nice and peaceful experience for my family. Getting away from busy work life in San Diego to a nice and quiet comfort cabin atmosphere is what my family and I needed! I was impressed with Kimberli customer service needs, I mean she basically ensured the cabin was stocked with clean blankets, bathroom towels, family board games, cooking pots, BBQ grill, etc.…

I love how each day was filled with nothing but sounds from nature wildlife, and I love watching the woodpeckers, quail’s and other miscellaneous birds I’m unfamiliar with feeding on the feeders outside the cabin. It was very peaceful! We were very fortunate to see a couple of deer’s, one large pheasant & plenty of chubby ground squirrels. Kimberli did mention black bears and a giant owl but we never had the opportunity to see either of those. Furthermore, we did see a rattlesnake on our last day at the cabin but it did not bother us and we could see it through the window inside the cabin. We were not frighten nor bothered, so we left it alone in its natural habitat. I just thought it was cool to see.

On day number one, Kimberli stopped for a visit to ensure we were pleased and she was helpful with informing us on all the parks and camps that were nearby. By the way, the highway is very curvy so be patient and vigilant while driving the roads! All in all, Kings Canyon visitor center is about a 30-minute drive, and Hume Lake was about 45 to 50-minute drive. Believe me it’s worth the drive and I promise the Sequoia National Park is worth seeing because I found the sequoia trees to be amazing!

At any rate, the cabin was in great shape and well maintained by Kimberli. Please ensure that your vehicle and tires are in great shape because there are no maintenance services for at least 20 miles and most of the roads, especially at the cabin is paved with small rocks so expect that. Overall, I give Kimberli 5 stars, so thumbs up to a beautiful cabin!

Owner's Response: WOW Thank you so much for such a wonderful review, I hope you all get a chance to come back! It concerns me about the rattle snake, although there's nothing I can do about the rattlers but advice and warn guest of the danger, it's good you got to observe this from the inside of the cabin, know one has ever seen one at the cabin before, at less that I know of. Thank you again for such a wonderful review Kimberli

Cozy secluded cabin

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Shady Glen Cabin. The inside was comfortable and clean. The rooms were well decorated and charming, plus there was plenty of information available about the National Parks. You can tell that Kimberli puts a lot of thought into her guest's stay. The cabin is well-stocked with both necessities and items for leisure. There was a large selection of movies to choose from and also an assortment of books for longer stays. The mosquito net was nice and we enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the wildlife. The sunset was a beautiful sight as it peeked out amidst the tall trees.

My husband was worried about the swamp cooler because he has suffered from heat strokes in the past, but it worked great and he had no complaints. All of us slept really well at night and thus were well rested for our day trips into the park.

The drive toward the park and to the cabin was my first taste of mountain driving, and though it was a tad nerve wracking at first, I quickly adjusted. The area is too beautiful to miss and we would love to stay here again in the future!

Clean, well-stocked, charming!

  • 5 of 5

First impression - Kimberli truly cares about her customers and has tried to provide all the comforts that you might need. I went with my elderly mom and two sisters.nshe had stocked the cabin with clean linens, towels, blanket throws, fans, books, games, pots, pans, bowls, cookie sheets, plates, silverware, toaster, microwave, spices, sandwiche bags, foil, firewood, flashlight, BBQ, etc. we went when Southern California was experiencing 100 degree days and we were nice and cool in the cabin. She had all the feeders full and we had the following visitors: a deer, a giant owl, woodpeckers, quail, misc birds, & fat squirrels. The driveway is adventurous, but if I can do it anyone can. Put your car in low and go slow. I had no problems. Kimberli stopped for a quick visit and she was very pleasant and helpful. Not too far from the parks....the highway is very curvy in out of this place.

The home is adorable and well maintained.

  • 4 of 5

Just a 30 minute drive from the the Kings Canyon visitor center! The immediate interior and exterior of the home is in great shape and well maintained by the owner. The first thing I noticed was how very clean the house was! The property is in the mountains, so there is a lot of wildlife but we saw deer, squirrels and a lot beautiful birds. Thank goodness that's all we saw, because we were told by the owner that an occasional bear does come around. The owner, Kimberlie, is a kind woman and she has put her touch into the decor of the home with beautiful quilts, pillows and a red, white and blue theme throughout the house. She has the home stocked well with towels, toilet paper and utensils for the basic stay. If you would like to BBQ, bring your BBQ tools and line the bottom the the BBQ with foil to make for easy cleaning. I'm not sure if there was a toaster there so we toasted our bread in a pan. Make sure you follow the house rules that are posted on the wall because they are important to the integrity of the property and home, otherwise, you will enjoy your quiet stay at Shady Glen. P.S. If you just want to get a drink or meal nearby, the Pinehurst Lodge is only a 10 minute drive up the road. Also, make sure you have your car and tires in good shape, as there are no services for 20 miles and the road to the cabin is paved with small rocks, to be expected. The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 stars was the fact that it was so hot there that the swamp cooler and fans only did so much. The house only cooled down for a few hours in the early morning hours. I would still go again, but if you are heat sensitive, perhaps don't go in the dead heat of summer. And also, make clear arrangements with the owner as to when you will meet her, because she will have you sign more waivers, go over house rules and go over how to use the cooler, TV and where the lights are. Otherwise, thumbs up! Beautiful home!

Best cabin ever!

Will definitely be back! No wifi, no cell reception. A perfect place to unplug, read some books and commune with the great natural surroundings of Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks.

Summer is here and what a great summer we're looking forward to rivers and lakes are all full! A great season for wildflowers and the blossom trail is already in full bloom, I hope to see you here soon! You can also fine more info on my Shady Glen Facebook page. Enjoy setting on the deck with a cup of coffee hot tea, maybe a glass of wine or cold beer watch the stars at night or greet the sun in the morning with the visiting birds that visit the feeders. Fire season is about to start, it wont be long before there will be a banned on camp fires,

Good news the road going in to the cabin has been fixed, so no more ruts to maneuver around.
