Great location for exploring south Iceland
Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The location was very convenient to the Golden Circle and many attractions in South Iceland. The heated floors keep the cabin cozy, and the hot tub was a treat after long days of hiking. The cabin was very clean and well maintained. Good supply of dishes and cookware And a few pantry items were provided (condiments, spices, sugar, tea, etc.). Was also a great location for viewing the northern lights - were saw a 6+ hour show on our second night!
A couple minor concerns kept this from a 5 star rating: the shower unit was worn, with buttons broken and a constant drip of water; would have liked an extra set of bath towels for a weeklong stay; communication with the owners was difficult- we didn't have cell phone service in IS and replies to email took over a day. Upon checkout there was no clear guidance on how to open the gate (.25mi from cabin) after having locked the keys and remote inside, per instructions. We ended up driving the car out past the gate, then taking a long windy walk in the dark to return the remote back to the cabin. The cabin is in a very windy location, so expect 20-30mph winds at night!
That said, the good definitely outweighed the bad and we would absolutely recommend this rental.
Everything we wanted for our stay in Iceland. Ideal location.
We stayed here in October 2018 on our first trip to Iceland. The view from the cabin was incredible. There was a (unnamed?) mountain behind the cabin that we climbed, which held a surprise crater lake at the top! The views from the top were even more incredible. The location of the cabin was perfect for exploring South Iceland. We made it as far as Jökulsárlón lagoon one day; another day we made it as far as circumnavigating the Snaefellsness Peninsula. Of course the major stops of the Golden Circle were all easily accessible. The cabin itself was very warm and cozy, clean and well maintained. The beds and pillows were comfortable, and the kitchen was adequately stocked. The hot tub was a big bonus; it was cloudy and often rainy while we were there (we knew this would be likely in October) so we never caught the Aurora, but we did so much hiking/walking that having a place to soak at the end of the day was wonderful. The location was easy to find and the hosts were friendly and accommodating. I would absolutely recommend this cabin to anyone looking to explore this corner of Iceland.
Thanks a lot for your wonderful review and you are welcome back 👍 By the way, the unnamed mountain has a name:) it’s Búrfell. One of many mountains by that name in Iceland😃
Very nicely finished cabin. Beds comfortable, feather comforters, warm heated floors, amazing hot tub, great views, easy drive to all we wanted to see.
Absolutely perfect location for exploring the southern part of Iceland. Remote enough to feel private and close enough to stores and restaurants. Heated floors made the whole place feel warm and cozy. The bedding was surprisingly warm and comfortable. My number one dream of seeing northern lights was achieved on our final night, a magical vacation. Very lovely, wouldnt hesitate to highly reccomend this home!!!!
Great Location with Lovely Views
This property met all our needs for location and size for two couples. It was clean and well appointed. The hot tub in the evening was an added plus after a long days hiking. We wanted to be outside of Reykjavik and closer to hikes, etc. (the city is an easy 35min drive). We were staying a week and kept our hiking and site seeing to the south west part of the island to give a relaxed time to explore. We had plenty to do and the weather was perfect for hiking and other activities. Like most places these days, don't listen to weather forecasts and always be prepared for either rain or sun. There is a lovely hike right behind the house (Lyngdalsheioi Mt. about 3000ft) that takes about 2 1/2 hrs and provides spectacular views. Keep your camera handy!
We had read that eating out is expensive, so we cooked in most nights, taking sandwiches with us during the day. Selfoss is about 10-12mins away and has a well stocked super market (Kronens) and liquor store.
Make sure your phones will work in Iceland. Some US companies do not have good coverage. You will need to contact the owners by phone upon arrival so the security gate can be raised. This occurred to us on first arriving, and also when we finally left and had to wait for another house owner to show up to use the gate remote key. When you do get to the house, a gate remote is available for use during your stay.
Thank you for your review. In it you seam to be very content with the cottage. As we strive to have everything perfect I was wandering if there was anything that we cold do better because you did not give us full house of stars and that is the first time we get less so we would like to know why.
All the best,
Örn and Ingunn
Swimming pools are several in the area. The closest one Minniborg and Hraunborgir distans 10min.drive. Also in the nearest town of Selfoss only 15 min. drive.
