Description

Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday cottage in Errarooey Beg - Ballyboe Cottage Donegal

In an area of outstanding natural beauty on the Northwest Coast of Ireland

Ballyboe Cottage is a superb modern luxury holiday home situated between the villages of Dunfanaghy and Falcarragh in North West Donegal. The cottage is set in a tranquil rural location and enjoys wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and coastline toward Tory Island. This beautiful landscape is ever changing with the constantly changing sky. The cottage has sea views to Tory Island and is situated at the foothills of Muckish mountain. This delightful and spacious holiday home has been designed to ensure a relaxing and comfortable holiday experience. It can accommodate up to 8 people in both style and comfort. Two of the four spacious bedrooms are en-suite and have king sized beds - both rooms enjoy sea views.

Ballyboe Cottage is located along the coastal road between Dunfanaghy and Falcarragh. Dunfanaghy is one of Donegal’s most popular holiday destinations and features many fine restaurants and pubs. Falcarragh is a vibrant village located in West Donegal Gaeltacht. Both villages have golf courses and can boast blue flag beaches.

Local attractions: Ballyboe cottage is situated within minutes travel of some of Donegal and Ireland's greatest attractions, including:-

Stunning beaches at Killahoey Strand, Marble Hill Strand, and Falcarragh Beach all less than 10 min away and Magheraroarty less than 25 min.

Glenveagh National Park: About twenty minutes drive away from the cottage this magnificent national park is home to herds of red deer and golden eagles.

Tory Island: Daily ferry trips to Tory, located 9 mile off the Donegal coast, leave from nearby Magheraroarty pier. Although only 4km long and 1 km wide, the island has 2 towns, East Town and West Town.

Dunlewey Lakeside Centre. This centre has lots of different attractions to keep all the family entertained - children's play area, farm yard, boat trips, craft shop, weaving house, audio visuals, etc

Ards Forest Park Located 3km south-east of Dunfanaghy, this wonderful park has marked nature trails and is also a wildfowl sanctuary. Scenic drive at Horn Head nearby.

Other attractions: Gartan Outdoor Pursuits Centre: Situated on the shores of Loch Gartan this is a very popular destination for adventure holiday enthusiasts.

Glebe House and Gallery: This is a Regency house built in 1828 set in woodland and decorated with William Morris textiles and Japanese art. The gallery houses the renowned Derek Hill Art Collection.

Arnolds stables in Dunfanaghy offers horse riding and lessons on local beaches and off road terrain. The Dunfanaghy surf school, 5 miles away, offers surf, windsurf and dive.

An Chriit Leisure- This excellently equipped leisure centre includes a fitness room, steam room, themal jets, sauna, treatments, kids pool & swimming pool.

The area is rich with Arts and Crafts: Galleries include The Art House; Green Door; Workhouse and Greendoor Galleries. Or visit McNutt tweeds nearby.

The area has loads if cf charming restaurants and pubs. We recommend The Cove Dunfanaghy, superb local organic produce. Also great is the Mill serving local seafood nightly. Other great pics include Arnold's, Lizzies, the Starfish Cafe, Muck and Muffins, Buttermilk and more. Local hotels also have superb menus including Lough Altan. Something Fishy does the best takeaway fresh fish and chips for miles.

As you may well be cooking we can recommend the names of good local fisherman for catch and cook. The Green Man deli has a great range as do supermarkets in Falcarragh. There is a local farmers market in the square each Saturday selling locally caught fish and shellfish. The area is also great for foraging.

Finally there are three local lake with Brown Trout and rivers include nearby River Ray.

For kids there is lots on offer locally including Karting, Tropical World, Kids Farm, activity centre Dunlewey, Boat Trips and pony rides.

We were very happy with cottage it was very clean & homely. It had all mod cons for us and plates, cups & cutlery for the kids. The views from cottage were great & ships & beaches were a short drive away. Would highly recommend this cottage.

Great location, terrific view of the ocean & islands and very roomy comfortable home

  • 5 of 5

We could not have picked a better spot for our one week stay in Falcarragh/Dunfanaghy. 4 very roomy BRs & 3 baths with 2 ensuite (the two upstairs) with very large BRs. 2 BRs on the first floor share a very large bath. If you've been to other parts of Ireland in the West & SW (along the WAW--Wild Atlantic Way), you've seen nothing till you come to Donegal. Every twist of the road creates another magnificent sight. Really an unbelievable experience. This is our 6th trip to Ireland & 3rd to Donegal and we're guaranteed to return again. Mary & Gordon, you have a fantastic place--thanks for a great week. A Ballyboe Cottage sign on the N56 would be greatly appreciated.

Christmas in Ballyboe Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at this beautiful cottage the week before Christmas and left on 2nd January. We can only describe those two weeks as a little bit of heaven. When we arrived Mary and Gordon had the lounge beautifully decorated with a full size Christmas tree, beautiful room decorations and even the dining room table was set for Christmas dinner with a lovely Christmas theme. The cottage location, layout and facilities were exactly as described on the website with even a few extras, like a very good coffee machine. All the rooms are beautifully decorated and exceptionally comfortable and the views from the cottage are stunning. The situation of the cottage is perfect for visiting beautiful Donegal and very close to the villages of Dunfanaghy and Falcarragh. Both of these villages have great supermarkets and shops - we were able to get everything we needed for a Christmas dinner without queueing :). They also have great eating places - restaurants and coffee shops. We were on the beautiful Killahoey beach everyday where our two dogs had a fabulous time. Mary and Gordon were wonderful and made our stay really special. We would highly recommend this cottage at any time of the year (as long as you don't get in before us with a date we'd hoped to go). We are really looking forward to our next visit sometime soon. Thank you Mary and Gordon for making our stay so memorable.

Situated in the breathtaking landscape of Donegal, Ballyboe cottage is surrounded by several blue flag beaches (several miles long), award winning links golf courses, gourmet restaurants and buzzing night time entertainment. The cottage is situated on the coastal road out of Dunfanaghy and has sea views towards Tory island. Nestled at the foot of Muckish mountain, near Errigle and Derryveagh mountains, the cottage is an ideal base for hiking, mountain biking and mountain climbing. The rivers and coast offer opportunities for surfing, wind surfing, sea angling and diving. With lots of quality pubs and restaurants nearby, you can wind up the evening with locally caught lobster and a pint of Guinness in Patsy Dan's bar. The cottage is situated in the Gaeltach and is an ideal spot to pick up a few words of Irish.

This is a stunning part of Donegal, surrounded by Islands and amazing coastline, all within easy access. This might be your first visit to Donegal, but you may well return!

Other Activities: Irish language and craft workshops. Locally caught lobster

Golf: Nearby Dunfanaghy Golf Club is an 18-hole true links course laid out in 1905 by six times winner of the British Open, Mr Harry Vardon. It offers year-round golfing. Being one of only two hundred links courses world wide, Dunfanaghy is easily walked but also offers a superb golfing challenge. The course has spectacular views of Sheephaven Bay, nearby beaches, headlands, harbours and the dramatic Derryveagh Mountains. The greens are consistently rated among the best in Ireland and the course is sand-based and free-draining, making it playable all year round.

In Falcarragh Cloughaneely Golf Course is a nine hole mature course with rolling fairways and tight greens.

Only 20 minutes away St. Patricks Golf Links is a 36 hole development comprising two 18 hole links courses, Maheramagorgan and Trá Mór. St. Patricks is situated in the North West part of Ireland amidst the splendour and beauty of the rugged coastline of North East Donegal. The two courses lie amongst the sandy hills of Sheephaven Bay, a golfing links wonderland that adjoins the long established Rosapenna Golf Club giving this area four 18 hole classic links courses.

The Old Tom Morris Links has been attracting golfers for over a century and now, with the addition of the magnificent Sandy Hills Links, Rosapenna is set to become one of the top links destinations in the world. Both links courses provide a true seaside challenge for all levels of players.
