What a find!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was lovely and in a fantastic location between two great little villages. The communication was smooth and we were met and shown around the property exactly as planned.

There was plenty of room, four bedrooms and a decent TV and music system to keep the whole family occupied.

Thanks so much

Stunning house and location

  • 4 of 5

The house was great, warm and plenty of room and facilities, and the location lends itself well to anyone who is keen to see the surrounding natural beauty.

One minor issue, the site advised that tea/coffee and dishwasher tablets were provided however they were not which, by the time we had noticed (after dinner on new years eve) was a little frustrating.

On the whole though a great experience and would recommend, we booked this at quite short notice for a stay on new years eve/day and it was great that we were accommodated.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the lovely review. We normally leave a few dishwasher tabs and laundry powder to get guests sorted. Not sure what happened but will follow up on that. I am delighted that you would recommend the cottage. Have a lovely new year and we hope to see you back in Donegal soon.

Comfortable, cozy break

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is just as described, very comfortable and cosy especially on a December evening as the wind whirls around outside. There is more than enough room especially as some of our party couldn't make the trip due to illness. The open fire was great, and the Christmas decorations a nice touch. The beach at Dunfanaghy is beautiful and the children spent most of their time in the dunes. We also visited Glenveagh National Park and walked up to the castle and back. Although just a brief visit on this occasion we would recommend the cottage and hope to return to the area in the summer.

  • 5 of 5

We were very happy with cottage it was very clean & homely. It had all mod cons for us and plates, cups & cutlery for the kids. The views from cottage were great & ships & beaches were a short drive away. Would highly recommend this cottage.

Great location, terrific view of the ocean & islands and very roomy comfortable home

  • 5 of 5

We could not have picked a better spot for our one week stay in Falcarragh/Dunfanaghy. 4 very roomy BRs & 3 baths with 2 ensuite (the two upstairs) with very large BRs. 2 BRs on the first floor share a very large bath. If you've been to other parts of Ireland in the West & SW (along the WAW--Wild Atlantic Way), you've seen nothing till you come to Donegal. Every twist of the road creates another magnificent sight. Really an unbelievable experience. This is our 6th trip to Ireland & 3rd to Donegal and we're guaranteed to return again. Mary & Gordon, you have a fantastic place--thanks for a great week. A Ballyboe Cottage sign on the N56 would be greatly appreciated.

Situated in the breathtaking landscape of Donegal, Ballyboe cottage is surrounded by several blue flag beaches (several miles long), award winning links golf courses, gourmet restaurants and buzzing night time entertainment. The cottage is situated on the coastal road out of Dunfanaghy and has sea views towards Tory island. Nestled at the foot of Muckish mountain, near Errigle and Derryveagh mountains, the cottage is an ideal base for hiking, mountain biking and mountain climbing. The rivers and coast offer opportunities for surfing, wind surfing, sea angling and diving. With lots of quality pubs and restaurants nearby, you can wind up the evening with locally caught lobster and a pint of Guinness in Patsy Dan's bar. The cottage is situated in the Gaeltach and is an ideal spot to pick up a few words of Irish.

This is a stunning part of Donegal, surrounded by Islands and amazing coastline, all within easy access. This might be your first visit to Donegal, but you may well return!

Other Activities: Irish language and craft workshops. Locally caught lobster

Golf: Nearby Dunfanaghy Golf Club is an 18-hole true links course laid out in 1905 by six times winner of the British Open, Mr Harry Vardon. It offers year-round golfing. Being one of only two hundred links courses world wide, Dunfanaghy is easily walked but also offers a superb golfing challenge. The course has spectacular views of Sheephaven Bay, nearby beaches, headlands, harbours and the dramatic Derryveagh Mountains. The greens are consistently rated among the best in Ireland and the course is sand-based and free-draining, making it playable all year round.

In Falcarragh Cloughaneely Golf Course is a nine hole mature course with rolling fairways and tight greens.

Only 20 minutes away St. Patricks Golf Links is a 36 hole development comprising two 18 hole links courses, Maheramagorgan and Trá Mór. St. Patricks is situated in the North West part of Ireland amidst the splendour and beauty of the rugged coastline of North East Donegal. The two courses lie amongst the sandy hills of Sheephaven Bay, a golfing links wonderland that adjoins the long established Rosapenna Golf Club giving this area four 18 hole classic links courses.

The Old Tom Morris Links has been attracting golfers for over a century and now, with the addition of the magnificent Sandy Hills Links, Rosapenna is set to become one of the top links destinations in the world. Both links courses provide a true seaside challenge for all levels of players.
