Superb apartment to the west of Nice. The owners couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. The apartment was everything we expected and more; clean, tidy, perfectly formed. Great views from the terrace. Close to all amenities, several good restaurants, cafes/bars, deli and boulangerie within walking distance. You do not need a car as the bus is close by and very reliable, 20 mins to Nice, 30 mins to Antibes all for one euro.
We certainly would go back to Cagnes as there is so much to do and see. The Grimaldi castle and Renoir museum are worth a look. The area is popular with French holiday makers rather than overseas tourists.
The only minor drawback is the traffic noise from the main road which passes in front of the building, this can go on until after midnight particularly at weekends.
Lisa and her husband were kind and helpful, collected us from the station and left us a bottle of wine which we appreciated.
However I was a little disappointed with the apartment .
I had not looked closely enough at the photographs and i had not realised the kitchen is in the one main room. I should have read the measurements of the bedroom more carefully and then i would have realised how small it was. it is only really a cupboard with a lovely view . I did not feel that the furnishings and equipment justify the description 'Luxury'.
There weren't enough towels and they were only Ikea basics. (We paid 20 euros each for towels and linen). The duvets were Ikea basic also, 100% polyester! Not very nice! Nothing wrong with Ikea, I love it, but the bedding, linen and towels were not luxury.
The furnishings are pleasant enough, although the painting which seemed to be of a drowned lady I could have done without.
The cupboards above the cooking area which held the plates and glasses were so high I had to stand on a chair to access them. The wardrobe and clothes storage is in the entrance area and its doors knock into the bathroom door if you are not careful, as the area is very cramped. Our clothes had to share the space with a hoover.
Many visitors mention the road noise and we found it spoiled the time spent on the balcony and kept us awake at night. Even with the double glazing and the shutters fully closed we could still hear it at night and on the balcony it is pretty impossible to ignore. We were there in early March I cannot imagine what it is like in the summer. It is not as if we live some where miles away in the country, we live right on a A road we don't have double glazing and the traffic noise does not really bother us.
The view of course is lovely and it was the view that decided us to book this flat.
I am sorry to post this review, I realise that others before us have been very happy so maybe it is just us. A word of warning, think twice if you are allergic to mosquito bites as my husband is, he was bitten 6 times on the first night, I think one might have been hibernating in the curtains. In the summer I imagine it must be bad and sitting on the balcony might be tricky.
This apartment is ideally situated in Cros-des-Cagnes right across the road from the pebble beach and with lots of nice restaurants nearby. The supermarket is 10 minutes walk away and the bus stops and railway station are also very close.
Its an ideal size for 2 people, very comfortable and well equipped. Some other reviews mention the traffic noise, which is quite constant during the rush hour, but the fantastic view and location are worth it! Also, with the balcony doors closed the noise is much reduced but you still get the great view.
We got a warm and friendly welcome from Lisa, who explained everything about the apartment to us. And the people in the well-stocked Epicerie on the ground floor were friendly too!
This is a great part of the coast to be based in if you want to explore the Cote d'Azure. Can't recommend it highly enough.
We spent the most wonderful holiday in this apartment. The view from balcony was magnificent and the apartment was very well equipped and very clean. The location of the apartment was also perfect. The beach next door and a lot of good restaurants and bakeries nearby. The owner of the apartment was easy to reach, flexible and provided good customer servcive. We enjoyed every moment of our holiday. Thank you!
Another absolutely wonderful holiday in this magical apartment, this was our third visit but definitely not the last. We fell in love with both the apartment and Cros de Cagnes.
The apartment, Angelina, is beautifully furnished and decorated, new dining table and chairs this year. Huge south facing balcony with the most wonderful views over La Baie des Anges.
Comfortable bed in a tiny bedroom, so cosy in your little cocoon with window overlooking the sea. Good furnishing , lovely bathroom and of course all absolutely immaculate.
All mod cons : television, DVD player, washing machine, dishwasher and internet connection which is now more of a necessity than a luxury to find out places to visit, restaurants etc.
Lisa ( the owner ) and her husband are charming and most helpful and they make you feel so welcome and comfortable.
Nothing is to much trouble.
Cros de Cagnes was a fishing village just over 200 years old and the heart of the village is around La Chapelle Saint Pierre just a few metres from the Angelina where you will find all the boulangeries, patisseries, boucheries, charcuteries, etc etc.
There is a great range of cafés and restaurants near by from posh restaurants to crêperies and brasseries . While in France we do prefer brasseries as they do offer basic French food, beautifully cooked at reasonable prices and the crêperies for savoury and sweet pancakes.
There is no need for a car as the public transport is very efficient , the bus stop is outside the Angelina and the railway station within walking distance. A little supermarket Vival just below the apartment and all the shops and post office in the village. Nice airport is less than 3 miles away.
The market is on twice a week, Tuesday and Thursday mornings in the Avenue des Oliviers ( where the post office is ) just round the corner from the Angelina.
Many thanks to Lisa and Julius for a wonderful holiday and for introducing us to Cagnes sur mer which is so much prettier and quieter than Nice.
I have never booked a rental overseas, typically staying in hotels. This was a wonderful first experience, and we couldn't have asked for more accommodating owners. The first leg of our trip the flight was delayed, ruining all of our connections. The time we had set to meet at the rental was not going to work. I texted immediately, and we adjusted the plan. Upon arriving in Nice our luggage was lost, and we had to fill out forms and it took time to get our rental car. Navigating to the rental we ran into a few snags, and the owners called us and were very patient as we struggled to arrive. We were later than planned, and I was worried and stressed, but Lisa was very kind to my husband as he ran in to meet her as I found parking. The pictures are very accurate. The view from the balcony is stunning. The bed area is very sweet. My husband is 6'2" and I am 5'8" and the bed was plenty big and was very comfortable. It is in a little room off the main room, and I loved the arrangement. The bathroom was nice. We used the small washer before we left. The heated towel rack/dryer was a very nice touch. We mostly ate out, after all we were in France :) but we used the refrigerator for drinks, wine, and a few small items we bought at the market just downstairs. The view at night from the balcony of the towns lit up along the promenade is stunning. We never turned on the television. We sat on the balcony when we were in the room enjoying the view or reading. The wifi signal was strong and was nice to use in the evenings to plan our next day's excursion. I have not one negative thing to say about this experience. I really wanted to stay right at the coast and this rental was perfect. The balcony was large with nice comfortable furniture and the bed and bathroom were very clean and lovely. This rental is a true treasure and the price so affordable for the quality of the rental and the beauty of the view. Being from Florida and loving the ocean we stay at many many beach side establishments, and I must say this has all the qualifications to be one of our favorites. We did have a rental car and parking was easy with a public garage a block away. Parking is free from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon. The creperie down the street was quite enjoyable. Try the cider! I had coffee and picked up breakfast treats and sandwiches at the boulangerie only a short walk away on the promenade. Thank you so much for such a lovely experience.
