18th century charm with 21st century mod cons

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed spending Christmas in this blissfully quiet, luxuriously comfortable cottage. Arrangements of fresh roses, a decorated tree, and soft music greeted our arrival. We were impressed by the high level of attention given to every detail inside the cottage, from the design of the tiny kitchen to the stacks of plentiful reading material. Each day of our visit we crossed over the James River on the free ferry service to explore Jamestown, Yorktown, and Williamsburg, then happily returned to the cottage to relax in the evenings. On Christmas day, when the weather turned cold and blustery, we particularly enjoyed having a real log fire in the open fireplace. It is difficult to imagine a nicer place to be, and we definitely would like to return for another stay in the future.

Charming cottage

  • 5 of 5

Everything was perfect! We really appreciated the personal touches like the fresh flowers and the music playing when we arrived. When we walked in it was like stepping back in time but with all of the modern conveniences you could hope for. We were only able to stay for a short weekend but I can't wait to come back again and stay longer! We couldn't have been happier with our stay.

Quaint, Adorable, Prestine

  • 5 of 5

A beautifully appointed gem tucked just off an easy accessible road that is only a ferry and short drive from Jamestown and Williamsburg. It is equipped to the last detail in the kitchen with the best appliances and furnished by a pro decorator with period pieces. What a peaceful retreat and plenty of space to unwind and meander the well kept gardens and lawn .... or relax on the patio for a morning coffee, tea, or BBQ amongst the hummingbirds. Also it is just a short trip to Smithfield, another sweet spot for sightseeing, ice cream, and dining.

Very Quiet and Relaxing location close to Williamsburg.

  • 5 of 5

We wanted something other than a hotel as a change of pace. We had our 2 teenage boys and they really enjoyed the cottage. Just a short 10 minute drive to the ferry that takes you over to Jamestown and Williamsburg. The cottage was clean and well designed. We felt like we stepped back in time. Thanks for a great experience!!

As one of the J. Austen's characters would say, "I am excessively fond of a cottage" and with whom I could not agree more in this case. The cottage and surrounding property was the perfect alternative to the over-populated tourist traps closer to Williamsburg proper. It has a nice historic and intimate feel but still has most of the modern amenities. I was at first skeptical about having to take a ferry to reach Williamsburg, but my husband and I both actually ended up enjoying that part of the trip immensely. This isn't a place for a big family with a rigid non-stop schedule, but it is a great place for a couple who is looking for a relaxing and peaceful experience that is only a ferry ride away from the excitement. The only thing I would say we missed is wifi. Some people may like to unplug completely, but I always use a mobile device to look up restaurants, map things out, etc. when we travel and I do not have unlimited data (or the strongest cell signal) to always call upon. Otherwise it was perfect and I would definitely recommend.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the lovely review. Regarding the wifi. There is wifi in the cottage. Unfortunately, in our haste to ready the cottage for your arrival we neglected to turn on the device. Sorry.
