Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Haines - Paradise Cove house

3 bedroom, 2 bathroom on its own beach with mountain and glacier views.

Give yourself the gift of staying in one of the most beautiful locations in the world. The Paradise Cove house is set on its own secluded beach at Paradise Cove with breathtaking views of Rainbow Glacier and the snowcapped peaks of the Chilkat mountain range. Would you like to get away from the incessant chatter and demands of the 'outside' world? Here's a place where there is peace.

The charming, rustic house is sided with hand-split cedar shakes. Inside, it is spacious and sunny. The open plan downstairs allows for a pleasant flow of spaces. It has a fully equipped kitchen and a dining room with an amazing view.

A special feature of the house is that as well as the main house there is the attached annex with its light-filled sunroom. The main house and annex allow for separation for two parties or two families who are sharing the rental.

The two newly remodeled bathrooms in the house offer modern fixtures. There is one bathroom in the main house and one in the annex, affording privacy for two parties sharing the house. The main house bathroom offers both a shower and a tub. The annex bathroom provides a shower with built-in seat.

Upstairs in the main house there is a queen bed in the master bedroom. The smaller upstairs bedroom has both a queen bed and a single bed.

The entire upstairs of the annex is a spacious bedroom with a queen sized bed, a rocking chair and a loveseat. Both the main house master bedroom and the annex bedroom have spectacular views.

Two Pack n' Play baby beds are available to accommodate little ones.

This is an Alaskan family house that is comfortable, spacious and well-heated, and offers all the amenities you need for an enjoyable stay.

The primary attraction of the house is its location on a private beach many think is the most beautiful in the Haines area.

You can fish from the beach in front of the house. If you bring your own sea kayak or rent one from a local company, you can launch from the beach and paddle down the peninsula to Chilkat Islands Marine Park.

Children enjoy the opportunity to play and run barefoot on the large lawn or sit on the grass. You can also sit in the comfortable chairs provided on the lawn and enjoy the view, or barbecue outdoors using the large Weber grill. Beyond the lawn on the beach you can sit around the campfire, toast marshmallows, and watch for the marine mammals that swim in to the bay - seals, sea lions, our resident otters, porpoise, and even whales.

Just over 6 miles from downtown Haines, Alaska, the Paradise Cove house is a five minute drive from the Chilkat State Park which has some of the best hiking trails in the area as well as a boat launch ramp.

Children are welcome at the Paradise Cove house. Sorry, but we can't accommodate pets.

About Cecily

Your hosts live on Paradise Cove a few minutes' walk from the Paradise Cove House. We enjoy the outdoor recreational opportunities available here. This is our home base, but we travel widely to both remote rural places and bustling, cosmopolitan cities. We like gaining the perspective travel gives us on our home and our way of living.

Why Cecily chose Alaska

The Paradise Cove House was built by the current owner's family, and he grew up there. The family hand-split the thick cedar shakes that protect the outside of the house and give it such special character. The flower and vegetable gardens were carved out of the wilderness soil and are still thriving. Together, the family planted the orchards of cherry, plum and apple trees that produce delicious fruit each year.

This house has a tradition of being a welcoming place, where friends and neighbors could always find a cup of coffee and a piece of pie.

Now we continue that tradition of Alaskan hospitality by welcoming to this warm and happy home the visitors who come to enjoy the marvelous scenery and activities this area has to offer.

What makes this house unique

The Paradise Cove House harks back to a simpler, and some would say a better, time. The house provides guests more than a homey and comfortable place to stay. It offers the opportunity to experience an Alaskan lifestyle. You can use the WiFi or watch a DVD on one of the house's two television sets. Television programming is not available, but the house is provided with a large collection of movies and more may be checked out in town. The well-stocked bookshelves offer an eclectic variety of reading material. You can enjoy the puzzles and board games available in the house. The spotting scope and binoculars provided invite you to notice the wildlife outside your windows.

You can relax indoors or laze on the lawn or beach. You can pursue any of a wide variety of outdoor activities. Whatever you do it will be real, and you will do it yourself or with the person (people) you've chosen to share this experience.

We offer you an experience that is unique in today's world, the qualities we value most about this lifestyle: connection with a place of incomparable natural beauty; connection with each other; connection with yourself. Serenity.

Because of the delightful, authentic lifestyle this place offers, you will remember your time at the Paradise Cove house as we do: fondly, and perhaps forever.

Thanksgiving in Alaska

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Paradise Cove house for the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend and couldn't asked for a better place. The view from the house is exceptionally breathtaking, the host and hostess incredibly accommodating and lovely, the beds comfy, the vintage décor sweet and cozy, the front lawn perfect for hanging out, throwing Frisbees, napping etc. We saw eagles and otters fishing and a moose on the beach in front of the house. I highly recommend staying at this perfect little place.

A special place at Paradise Cove....a lovely family home on the beach!

  • 5 of 5

Our first impression was that it was as beautiful or more than the photos online! The view takes your breath away. From the front lawn, you can look across the bay to the mountains and you can see the imposing Rainbow Falls, coming off a large glacier. Our husbands put their fishing lines in the water and tried fishing, and although they got nothing, they had a good time trying.

The home itself is very welcoming. It is a family home from earlier days in Haines, and the walls and rooms seem to have stories to tell. It is warm and beautiful and extremely clean inside. There are books and music and videotapes to watch. The kitchen is well equipped for any cooking. It’s very quiet and comfortable sleeping there. From inside one end of the house to the other, you cannot hear any noise.

There are birds are around….eagles, crows, small songbirds and more.

Haines is a warm and welcoming town. We enjoyed visiting the art galleries, and a few restaurants (Fireweed, Chilkat Restaurant and Bakery & the Lighthouse). We visited the Kroschel Wildlife Center nearby which was definitely worth the visit (call for private tour).

The owners were very accommodating and answered several e-mails for me, immediately. I would recommend anyone to stay there. It will make your Haines stay memorable!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with 2 couples and 3 kids we all fit in the space with no problems. House was exactly as listed, clean well maintained. Host was great, even hung to a couple of coats we forgot and we are having a friend pick them up for us. I would recommend staying here when visiting Haines.

Perfect low key family get away

  • 5 of 5

The view from the property is absolutely breathtaking. The house itself has an interesting layout, with lots of space for families. There are two separate living areas, which is nice if someone wants their own space for a bit. Lots of books and board games to entertain the kids. The kitchen was well equipped and the master loft was a bonus! We really liked the two newly renovated and clean bathrooms. Mark and Cecily are fantastic to communicate with and we did not have a single negative thing to say about our three night stay here. Would definitely go back, and recommend to others.

the property was exactly what we were looking for. It gave us a true experience of Alaska.

  • 5 of 5

The view of Rainbow Glacier and the waterfall below it were enough to make the price worth it. However, the house is comfortable, clean and has everything we needed and we were there for eight nights. It is not thevHilton but we were looking for Alaska not the Hikton, The yard with access to the beach and the fire pit where we coked dinner several nights were icing on the cake., we even had a moose visit one night. There were 6 of us from 12 to 68 and we all loved it. As I have told many people this is the one place I have visited where the reality was better than the advertisement. If you want to experience Alaska and have an independent streak in you then make plans to go and stay at this little piece of Paradise. You will not regret it!!

A Special place indeed!

  • 5 of 5

Awesome view of the Inlet. The mountains, glaciers, waterfalls just across the water. Islands and bays to explore by canoe. Chilkat Park around the corner by road or water. The house is roomy and completely equipped for an enjoyable family getaway. You have everything you need for cooking, dining and just relaxing. Love the charcoal grill; we used it to cook seafood from the Haines Packing Company just down the road. Great yard and grounds too!

Looking forward to our next trip back.

Thanks Cecily, your Paradise Cove house is indeed a very special place.

Location

Car: necessary

The Paradise Cove House is just over 6 miles from downtown Haines. Haines is a small community at the head of the Inside Passage. The town is surrounded by mountains rising up to 7,000 feet above the fjord.

In town there is an amazingly good library that was named the Best Small Library in America by the Library Journal in 2005. Free Internet service and an extensive collection of books, magazines and DVDs are available at the library.

Haines has an excellent small museum that provides the visitor with a good sense of the history of the area, and offers shows of work by local artists.

The Chilkat Center for the Arts in the historic Port Chilkoot area of town offers a variety of performances sponsored by the Haines Arts Council.

The town of Haines affords all the facilities needed for a stay in the area: grocery stores, including Mountain Market, an organic food store and cafe; restaurants; a laundromat; a bank with an ATM; medical services at the clinic; and shops selling outdoor equipment and local arts and crafts.

The Extreme Dreams gallery is a short walk from the Paradise Cove House and displays for view and purchase the work of a diverse group of local artists.

The Chilkat State Park is a five minute drive from the Paradise Cove House, and offers some of the area's best hiking trails as well as a boat launch ramp.

There are lakes in the area where you can go canoeing or kayaking, gliding silently by the banks where you may see moose or even bears. The valley's rivers offer rafting and river kayaking opportunities. And you can launch your sea kayak from the beach at the Paradise Cove House.

Fishing for salmon or Dolly Varden Arctic char in season is readily accessible on the fjords, the Chilkat and Chilkoot Rivers, and the lakes. Fishing charters are available.

The quiet roads with little traffic are perfect for carefree bicycling, and there are many routes on rougher tracks where mountain biking can be enjoyed.

Local tour guides offer biking, hiking, sea-kayaking, river rafting and wildlife-viewing tours.

Whether you like hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, or just relaxing in a comfortable chair and enjoying the long, late light, summer is a perfect time to visit. The meadows and shorelines are blooming with a riot of wildflowers.

Haines hosts the Southeast Alaska State Fair in late July, with live music, displays of regional garden produce and animals, programs and rides for kids. Year-round the fairgrounds are home to galleries, a restaurant and the award winning Haines Brewing Company micro-brewery.

In the fall months, Haines is home to the largest gathering of bald eagles anywhere in the world. Photographers, birdwatchers and naturalists come from many countries to view the large numbers of these magnificent birds in their beautiful setting, along the pristine Chilkat River. The fall Bald Eagle festival features talks and programs about the eagles.

Notes:
Spotting scope; binoculars; well-stocked bookshelves; puzzles and games; lawn chairs and beach for outdoor meals; some balls, etc. for outdoor play; campfire site on beach. If you bring or rent your own kayak, you can launch it from the beach in front of the house. Because the Paradise Cove house is more than six miles from city water service, the water for the house comes from a well on the property. The well can accommodate all the bathing and cooking needs of guests, but frequent loads of laundry could overtax the water supply. We're sorry that we can't offer guests laundry facilities, but we do offer an authentic and comfortable experience of life in rural Alaska. We recommend that guests use the Moose Horn Laundromat in town, a clean and well-equipped laundromat with a pleasant waiting area and a gift shop.
