Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cottage in Agios Adrianos

Nestled in a traditional farming village outside the coastal town of Nafplion.

Tucked away down a narrow lane the road ends and you enter a secret garden with no immediate neighbours.

By the private pool is an ideal holiday cottage. The sitting room, with a sofa bed for two, is light with windows that look across the pool and the garden.

The bedroom with double bed has patio windows which open onto a large terrace with table and chairs for 'al fresco' dining, which in turn spills out under the vines which are carpeted with grass.

The pool is just the right size for a turn or two in the evening to keep fit or for all day fun if you have nothing but splashing and keeping cool in mind.

There is a paved area to lounge on and lawns to relax on. There are no visible neighbours overlooking the cottage and the farm house but you can hear the goat bells as they come and go in the morning and evening from the village.

The kitchen is well equipped, with a fridge, oven, crockery and cutlery, toaster etc.

The town of Nafplion:

Nafplion is 4km from the village. Nafplion was the first capital of Greece and what attracts the visitor is the old town with its grand neoclassical houses, pedestrianised streets with bougainvillea cascading from the balconies, the waterfront and the cafes. Off the main square you'll find a pair of mosques, one of which is now used as a theatre, and above the town you'l see the medieval castle Palamidi.

Palamidi, atop the hill, overlooks all of Nafplion. You can climb this by its 999 steps or, if you want to take it easy, take the road around the back!

Bourzti is the name of the island fort in the bay and there are boat trips across running regularly (4 euros per person). On Saturdays and Wednesdays visit the farmer's market in Nafplio and enjoy the attractive 'town beach'.

The surrounding area: Argolida, the area in which Nafplio lays is rich in everything. The most well know archaeological sites are all within a hours drive, Mycenae, Agammemnon's 'bee hive' tomb, the ancient theatre of Epidavros, and the Cyclopean walls of Tiryns.

There is a large choice of beaches, including Tolo, with tavernas on the beach, boats for hire and waterskiing, or Kios where there is a kite surfing school.

There is also the Blue Flag awarded Karathona beach with is long stretch of sand and crystal clear waters.

Recent improvements to the road network make the area very accessible and within two hours of landing at the airport you could be sitting by the pool with a glass of wine in your hand... What more could you want?

We ask you not to smoke inside the cottage. If you choose to smoke outside please be aware that fires start easily in Greece and your cottage is amongst orange trees and dry grass. You will need to take care with your ash and cigarette ends.

About Property Manager

We bought the farm house, then a ruin, in 2004, and set about transforming it and the garden.

The guest house, where you will be staying, was built in 2005, and we've planted trees and vines around it to make it shady, cool and private.

We live part of the year in Greece now, and the rest of the time in the UK.

Property Manager purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Property Manager chose Argolis

Its so quiet and peaceful, with no immediate neighbours, but everything is close at hand - the town of Nafplio, beaches, or Athens, if you want a day trip to see the Acropolis, for example.

Greek getaway

  • 5 of 5

We booked the house for two weeks. My wife, step-daughter and I had a great time. We were given all the help and advice we needed prior to arriving and were met outside the village and taken to the property when we arrived.

The main house is next door but we were able to enjoy privacy and peace in the pool, on the patio and in the house. A lovely touch was a bottle of wine to greet us along with tea and coffee.

The air conditioning helped keep us cool and the clean pool was great for dipping in and out of. Despite the presence of mosquitos (bring strong repellent for the evenings) we were able to enjoy the sun on the loungers, eat dinner under the grape vines and cook our own meals.

We had hired a car and so were only 10 minutes from Nafplio which has everything you need. There were shops in the village but we used Lidl! It is a great location for visiting Argos, Corinth, Epidavros, Mycenae and other historical sights but there are also great sandy beaches within 20 mins drive at Tolo and Karanatha.

Make sure to go to Nafplio after dark when everyone comes out and the restaurants and shops are buzzing.

The holiday was everything we had hoped for and the place is just as described. Alex was helpful and there when needed but allowed us our own space.

Good value and we would recommend it to others.

Echt een heerlijke vakantiewoning

  • 5 of 5

Thoroughly relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The property was very clean and well equiped. Though in a village, it was very tucked away with a rural feel. The village had a bakery, chemist and several other shops and tavernas within 2 minutes walk. The owners were very kind and helpful, even bringing over toys for the children when it rained one afternoon. We miss having breakfast in pease on the patio while the children swam in the pool!

Nafplio is within approx 4km and is a thoroughly enchanting town with lots of restaurants to choose from. It has 2 great beaches with very clear water. One of them was sandy and shallow for quite a long way out so was perfect for the children.

The town of Tolo was nearby which runs a day cruise to some of the Greek islands which was fabulous. The length of time spent on the boat was compensated for by seeing dolphins swimming alongside the boat.

The house is well situated for visiting archeological sites. Epidavros and Mycenae are close enough for a visit in the morning leaving time for a swim in the late afternoon. Mistras is roughly a 2 hour drive through beautiful mountainous countryside and is well worth the trip if you like wandering around ruins.

This is definitely the real Greece and in May wasn't overrun with tourists. I cannot speak highly enough of this holiday. We would love to come again and have no hesitation in reccomending it to others.

We visited in June 2010. Small friendly village close the the beautiful town of Nafplion. Every thing you need was in the cottage. Very friendly owners. A lovely peaceful setting, very relaxing from the moment you arrive. I would recommend to any one who loves the genuine Greece.

Greek Idyll

  • 5 of 5

Being seasoned travellers around Greece for almost ten years, we have come to expect varying standards with accommodation of all grades. We have always arrived without booking in advance, and viewing as seen on the day; if acceptable = stay!

This year (2009) we took the brave decision to book without first seeing (in real-life) the accommodation we were going to stay in. What were we to expect?

Agios Adrianos is not of the easiest to find, unlike most Greek villages/towns, it doesn’t seem to want to be recognised by its own roadside village in/out signs!

From booking to arrival and finally departing – the owners have been extremely helpful and the perfect hosts.

Arrival at the gate to the cottage - the quietness of the area meets you – wonderful. Along a white pebbled path beneath a pergola of succulent grape vines, the cottage comes into view. Unassuming but perfectly placed. There is an air of peace tranquillity, homeliness!

Inside we are met with a place that, the pictures on the website do not do justice to. Modern, well laid out kitchen, which any discerning chef would appreciate. The bathroom, well above greek standards, plenty of hot water. Bedroom – a good size and plenty of storage, and a very comfortable bed. The ceilings throughout are high and add to the overall feeling of inside space. (possibly a space that could be utilised with a small mezzanine floor for a sleeping area for one)! The whole cottage has been thoughtfully and extensively equipped and if you are an avid reader there is a small library of books to help wend the time away whilst relaxing outside.

The garden/patio is of good proportions and the veranda offers shade whilst taking the sun during the hottest part of the day. The afternoon breeze brings with it the aroma of the mint and lavender growing on the patio.

And the pool – clear, cool, and well maintained, sits waiting tantalising you into its glistening water,

The property is outside of Nafplio, so if you wanted to be mobile you would need either a vehicle or local taxis. But the village does boast one or two restaurants and a mini market, butchers, chemist, and the owners of these are pleasant and want to help!

Any negatives or problems – No – other than leaving this little piece of Paradise to return to reality!! And once people have been they will be rebooking very soon.

This charming cottage is in a small traditional village in the bay of Argolida. The sound of goat bells drift from the surrounding fields and the village square boast two cafes bursting with local farmers, satisfied that their sons have safely taken over the day to day running of the orange and olives groves. It is the unspoilt, traditional side of Greece. 5 km away is the old town of Nafplion with its narrow streets, marble paved square and choice of tavernas along the sea front. This old capital of Greece has something of interesting from the top of the hill top castle of Palamidi down to the island fort (Bourtzi) in the bay. Also within a short drive from the cottage is the blue flag bay of Carathona, the famous ancient palace of Mycenae , the great walls of Tiryns, the amphitheatre of Epidavros, an unusual cave church, an ancient Greek pyramid (!), a kite surfing school, pony and carriage rides, cliff edge walks, street markets, curiosity shops, in short, something for everyone.
