My name is Emil, I was raised in the Dominican. Republic. I own and operate my own business.
I went to an American school in Santo Domingo and after graduation studied marketing at INTEC (TECHNOLOGICAL INSTITUTE OF SANTO DOMINGO).
I currently live in Santo Domingo.
Emil Ysona purchased this apartment in 2012
I recently purchased this property because I love this area. I have been coming here since I was a child and finally decided to have a place here. Its just a 95 minute drive from where I live and my kids love it here.
This is a very special private apartment complex. Its operated by Small Luxury Hotels, and I am one of the few that has a private property here. Amenity's are first rate, and its very quiet. You actually feel is all for your self here.
The beach is secluded and I have never seen more than 10-15 people at once on the beach. There is also 24 hour security at the beach and around the complex.
If you get tired of all the quiet relaxing time, The town is a 10 minute drive. Night clubs and restaurants are a common sight.
This is my second time renting from Emil. Staying at Emil's place is a real treat. Negra (housekeeper/chef) is the icing on the cake. The property itself is beautiful, clean and right on the beach. Emil is quick to answer any questions and is BEYOND accommodating. One of the best hosts there is. Looking forward to trip #3!
Where to start? I have nothing but positive things to say about this trip. Emil, the owner, set the tone for our vacation with outstanding customer service from the very start when we began planning. He is super responsive and helpful. When we arrived, we met Negra, the housekeeper who took such good care of us all week. She is a lovely person. If someone in your group speaks some Spanish, it's helpful because she doesn't speak much English. She cooked breakfast for us daily, and it was delicious - from the fried plantains down the freshly made passion fruit juice (amazing!) She will also shop for you and make dinners. We only ate one dinner in because there was so much to do and see in town, but that dinner was exceptional also - fresh fish, veggies, beans, rice, and salad. The apartment is clean, well-maintained, and has everything you need. The highlight for us was the outdoor sitting area, where we spent a lot of time reading and relaxing. The beach is stunning and they have lots of lounge chairs and shade structures. We always found a spot to camp for the day. In fact, we were surprised by how few people there were (we went in the first week of January). The service at the resort is superb. We had lunch once on site, dinner once, and ordered drinks and tapas on the beach. Everything was delicious. They take good care of you and are genuinely friendly. We went into the town of Las Terrenas twice for dinner and shopping and we loved it. It's a bit pricey for a taxi ($40 round trip) but worth it. It's only a 15 minute drive and there are tons of great restaurants/bars. If you want to get some well-made Dominican cigars from a lovely business owner, go to see Marco at Mondo Puro. Also, we highly recommend La Tre Caravelle for dinner, but make a reservation. Recommend walking down the beach and popping into one of the many beach side bars - super pretty! For the more adventurous, I recommend getting a moto concho at some point. It's a motorcycle taxi - really fun! They don't drive very fast so you won't fear for your life, but it is a little thrilling. But do not pay more than 200 pesos - you can argue with them if they try to charge too much. We are definitely planning another trip there! I will be brushing up on my Spanish because the locals are really friendly & helpful but do not speak a ton of English. It would be more fun if I can communicate better.
Perfect place for all the family, to relax and enjoy! We had an amazing stay in Emil's apartment and the attention was over the top. Can't wait to come back! Thanks!!
There is so much to say... From the moment we booked Emil and Lissi were very nice and helpful with all our questions and providing information and tips on getting there and things to do. They even contacted us on the day of arrival, as they knew we were driving to the property and wanted to make sure we were not lost.
Once we got to the apartment the magic started. Negra, the housekeeper, is one of the sweetest people we've ever met. She pampered all of us and made us feel at home. We have 2 girls, ages 13 and 7, who warmed up to Negra right away and wanted to bring her back home to the US with us. There were tears when we left....
Negra's cooking is delightful!! She will cook anything and everything for you, and will even go buy the groceries. She is simply amazing and goes out of her way every time to make you happy. We had a day trip on Sunday, and I told her to take the day off. She still came at 7am and made breakfast for us before we left. She is just wonderful, and does everything with a smile on her face.
The unit is beautiful and very comfortable, but the resort itself is truly amazing, very elegant and sophisticated, yet charming!! Every morning the view took my breath away! It is just magical! Unspoiled, virgin beach with excellent 5 star service. The hotel provides many free watersports like paddleboards, kayaks, boogie boards, which we enjoyed a lot. We also went horseback riding a few times on the beach, which was awesome as well. We all had an amazing vacation, and ended up extending an extra day, as we were lucky enough that it was available for one more day... and we already asked to book again to return!
The spa is also excellent! And I recommend you visit while you are there. The restaurants are very good, but we preferred Negra's food because it touched that spot of home for us... and we could feel the love she put into it.
We've been to many tropical places and caribbean islands, but this trip to Sublime Samana to Emil's apartment with Negra tops them all!! Best vacation ever as the entire family agrees!! THANK YOU!!!
The place is lovely - the beach and pools are beautiful, the apartment is very nice and clean and in excellent condition, and the highlight of our stay was Negra, who lives nearby and is the housekeeper and caretaker. Despite our lack of Spanish (we relied on a combination of mime, lone words of Spanish and Google translate) we were able to benefit from her advice and guidance as well as her amazing cooking. She made us a couple of local seafood specialties that were delicious, and the huge quantities fed us for most of our meals!
The place is perfect for four people - my uncle came to visit for a few days and Emil kindly arranged for a blowup mattress bed that was apparently quite comfortable - it was just a little crammed in the living room though, making it hard to use the living room for conversation. If your group is larger than 4 people you may want a slightly larger place. WIFI is not very reliable, but we didn't care too much as we were enjoying the beach and pool - if WIFI is a big deal for you this may not be the place for you.
Staying here, you can also use the hotel amenities such as fitness room, restaurants etc. which adds to the convenience of the location. The drive in from the Samana airport is absolutely gorgeous. My only warning: be careful about ATM use in Las Terrenas, our ATM card was apparently scanned and a lot of money withdrawn. While we were ultimately made whole by our US bank it was a huge hassle. You may want to stick to the ATMs by the supermarkets or in bank buildings - we think our problem happened at an ATM in a strip mall next to travel agency on the main road into town, so avoid that one.
A few weeks ago we decided that we needed to take a trip of the relaxing kind and quite honestly, the choice was simple... We had to come back to Emil's place.
As usual, everything was simply top-notch from the friendly lobby personnel to the beautiful and clean common areas and of course... Negra!
Negra outdid herself yet again, this time by preparing a nice, fresh local fish (Mero Capitan) with shrimp which was THE hit of the trip. And that was just one of the meals...
It's hard to say here anything that hasn't been said before.
Folks, this is THE property to go to. The hotel, apartment, beach and area are all nothing short of amazing. Emil is attentive, responsive and a pleasure to deal with; and Negra is the surprise hit you'll be talking about when you go back home.
Don't believe me? Read the other reviews...
So go ahead and book this place... Or you may soon find that I have already booked that weekend for myself.
(Side note... I FINALLY decided to try the restaurant in the hotel (Bistro) and it was quite good also - maybe next time I'll try the one @ the beach)
Located on the northeastern coast of the Samana Peninsula, Las Terrenas offers miles of protected inshore waters and beautiful, undeveloped white-sand-beaches, lined with tall palm trees and pastel-colored fishing boats. Trade winds and the warm temperature of the sub-tropical Atlantic Ocean bring this part of the island year-round balmy weather. With a year-round average of 77 degrees Fahrenheit, the temperatures vary only 18 degrees between summer and winter.
