An absolute Gem

  • 4 of 5

We were curious at self contained bed and breakfast. The cottage was neat, clean and compact. Everything in it to feel like home while feeling like you were miles from home. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners Annette and Andrew. We were offered fresh bread or croissants each day with cereals etc available in the cottage. This meant we could eat when we wanted with no interruptions. It is on the doorstep of the quieter part of the Lake District but lots of places to visit. Broughton-in Furness, only 5 minutes walk offered all the essentials you may need. With local shops, cafe and three very different pubs and a restaurant. All in all a delightful place to stay for peace and tranquility. A lovely walking area too. You will not be disappointed.

a lovely place with great hospitality

  • 4 of 5

We should arrived on Saturday in Broughton-in-Funess in the cottage Lowfield, but sadly enough the boiler broke down. But Annette was very kind to upgrade us to another house. After the boiler was fixed we moved to Lowfield. What a beautiful place!

A lovely cottage, well equiped and a spacious garden, with a spectaculair view. But most of all we were astonished by the warm welcome of Annette. What a great hostess. And Broughton-in-Furness is a smaal village, but has a the necessary shops and pubs. Great place to be.

Lovely modern cottage in a quiet, friendly village

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here over Easter weekend and had a lovely time. The owners were helpful and welcoming and even gave us milk, bread and cereal for breakfast. The cottage was modern, clean and just the right size for two people.

Broughton is a lovely little village with a few good pubs nearby and a great local shop and bakery. Everyone we met here was friendly.

If you had a very large car parking may be challenging, but that's a very minor point. Overall we loved staying here and would definitely come again.

Owner's Response: I am pleased that these guests enjoyed their stay so much - it truly is a wonderful part of the Lake District to visit. It is just a few minutes walk from Lowfield into the picturesque centre of our village. There you can shop for local delicacies at the family grocers and butcher or treat yourself with freshly baked bread and cakes at the Village Bakery. The bakery was a finalist in ITV's Britain's Best Bakery in 2012 and its café is always popular with both visitors and locals. Broughton-in-Furness is a traditional and friendly Lakeland village and there are so many activities and attractions in the area. We are ideally positioned between the coast and the mountains - come and see for yourself!

Lowfield Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I chose this cottage for our weekend break. We were only looking for a two night stay and the owners were extremely helpful and accommodating. We didn't arrive until quite late due to traffic but we we were still greeted on arrival and showed round. The cottage is lovely. Very nicely decorated and has everything you need. It was very clean and the bathroom had been newly renovated. The owners had provided milk, tea and breakfast for us and on the second day left fresh bread for us also. We found that it was a nice location for Bowness and Windemere, where we spent the day. The owner had left information in the cottage about the surrounding area and local attractions which were helpful. The village that the cottage is in is great for a pub lunch or a drink after a days walking. All in all we had a lovely relaxing stay and we would definitely recommend to others.

Broughton-in-Furness makes an excellent base to explore the less frequented and more tranquil parts of the Lake District. This picturesque and historic village has a good selection of quality shops and award-winning pubs - all within a few minutes walk of Lowfield.

Low level walks abound, such as around Tarn Hows while in Broughton itself a disused railway track leads to woodland and ponds. Cycling is also popular with an extensive set of mountain bike trails in nearby Grizedale Forest. Bikes can also be hired from the mountain sports shop in Broughton.

Coniston Water and Coniston Old Man are 15-20 minutes drive away with museums and stately homes to visit, a steam gondola and boats to enjoy the lakeside with and stunning mountain scenery to admire. The central lakes (Windemere, Ambleside) can be reached along scenic roads within 45 minutes.

The coast is also close by with miles of beaches and dunes to explore together with owl and wildlife sanctuaries.
