The house and flat had the most amazing Pyrenean setting , with mature gardens with mountain views. Idyllic !A great pool helped cool us all down when it was too hot !
The kitchens were very well equipped and as we are keen cooks it worked very well for us.
We were a family of 8 adults and there was plenty for all our needs in the surrounding area. The area was truly beautiful. Great walks and wild swimming , plenty for everyone to do.Sam is a genial host , there when needed but not interfereing . Having been holidaying in France for over thirty years we had never been to the Ariege. We will definitely be back again .
We had a wonderful holiday at La Hasta. The gite was spacious and well equipped, and the children loved the pool and garden. The location is perfect - Tarascon and its facilities are a few minutes' drive away - and so near so many fantastic places. We had fab day trips to Andorra la Vella, Puigcerda in Spain and Toulouse, and loved visiting nearer places like Ax les Thermes, Mirepoix and Foix. All in all a brilliant two weeks and we will be back! Thanks Sam!
Fantastic relaxing, picturesque location for exploring the Pyrenees. The cottage clean & spacious with the stream & birds in the background. The balcony & pool is a bonus when arriving back frim sightseeing or restful days.
Definitely a place to return.
Thank you Sam
La Hasta is situated in a beautiful location close to Tarascon. We visited late September/early October, which is a lovely time to be in the Pyrenees, when leaves are just turning and the weather is still warm and sunny. We stayed in the garden level apartment of the main house, which is spacious, stylish, relaxing, clean and well equipped. French doors open out onto a private terrace with garden beyond.
The garden is huge and was paradise for our young children, who loved having such a big area to run free. Unfortunately it was a little too late in the year to use the pool but it looked lovely.
In the evenings we sat outside looking at the stars - or one night an impressive thunder storm - or when we wanted to feel cosier, we lit the wood burning stove.
We loved the prehistoric park, which is an easy walk to. There are also great paragliding sites nearby tested by one member of our party, who found himself flying in a thermal with three eagles. The highlight of the holiday was a day trek with a donkey, arranged through the donkey farm at Unac - a magical day out with or without kids.
Sam was a great host, obliging and helpful, but ensuring that we had our privacy. We'd certainly recommend La Hasta as a great holiday base for exploring the Ariege part of the Pyrenees any time of year.
In the bottom of the valley beside bubbling mountain stream, a very friendly stay in this clean and spacious gite. Host is living upstairs and was helpful at all times as needed, very generous with lending maps and books of the area. Gite was well-maintained and well-presented, a wonderful stay for the warm summer months. Plenty of excellent climbing close by at Calamès just up the road and in walking distance for our sons, also fabulous walking for my husband and I in the Pyrenean foothills from the Col de Port. Fabulous Auberge there for coffee, evening drink and food too. Niaux cave is only a short drive away and a must for all. Andorra is on the doorstep too about an hour + away. Friendly people in Tarascon s A, wonderful market at Mirepoix, history of Cathars visit to Montsègur and of course Foix. All in all a wonderful week not long enough and weather wasn't even that great, but loved our stay with Sam at La Hasta, would love to go back sometime.
La Hasta is a unique ski and pyrenean holiday venue, open all year round. It is on the sunny side of the Courbière Valley, at the head of which sits the 2000+ metre Pic des Trois Seigneurs. We can host up to 8 people in our gite and up to 3 in the cottage.
In the winter La Hasta is the ideal base for mountain sports including skiing (alpine/nordic/backcountry), snowshoeing and mountaineering. We are close to the resorts of Ax-les Thermes, Plateau de Beille and the 282k of pistes in Andorra.
In the summer we run holidays that mix adventure sport with yoga (alternatively you can just hire La Hasta and do your own thing). Our area of the Ariège is perfect for all manner of outdoor sports including rock climbing, hiking, canyoning, canoeing and cycling. At the end of the day you can relax by our 10 by 5 metre pool.
Within easy reach of La Hasta are the Niaux cave (famous for its prehistoric paintings), historic cathare citadels, thermal spas and typical market towns.
Other Activities: climbing, canyoning, canoeing
Ski: Our nearest and favourite downhill ski area is at Ax-Les-Thermes. It takes 25 minutes to get to Ax and park up and then a further 20 minutes (including 5 minutes to put on your boots) to get up to the main resort via ski lift. Ax caters for all levels of experience, from long green runs to some really 'interesting' black runs. There is plenty to keep you going for a week. There are many local options for hiring skis... We can help with arranging ski hire and can negotiate a discount for you.
Slightly further afield, though still within easy reach, is Andorra... As well as having duty free status it has 282 kilometres of pistes.
If you want a change from the pistes then there is the always the local snowsports centre at Plateau de Beille... Which offers lots of opportunities for playing in the snow... Nordic skiing, sledging, snowshoeing, dog sleighs... All with an absolutely wonderful view of the high pyrenees mountains.
