About the property

Luxury apartment on the first floor of a traditional wooden Dutch house, located in a quiet street - recently described as one of Amsterdam's hidden gems in a national newspaper.

It's 2km walk/bike to the free ferry boat direct to Central Station, located at the heart of the old town. The house is close to the fashionable NDSM Werf in Amsterdam North with it many restaurants, and there are more traditional restaurants and bars within walking distance for a true Dutch experience.

The apartment has off-street parking for up to two cars. We're just 5 minutes from the highway by car, if you want to explore further or head to the beach.

There are two large bedrooms each with a private bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen. One bedroom has access to a large roof terrace with a view over a river and Amsterdam's last remaining polder (great sunsets).

We can also rent bikes for Euro 5 per day during your stay. Within 5 minutes heading out of town you can bike on traffic free bike lanes and visit some picture postcard villages just above Amsterdam or the popular Zaanse Schans windmills. There's also a lovely beach on a large freshwater lake in 'Twiske about 10 minutes by bike.

About Scott Roane

I work as a web editor in The Hague, and I've lived in Amsterdam for 13 years. Prior to this I lived in Germany and the UK.

Scott Roane purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Scott Roane chose Amsterdam-Noord

After living in the center of Amsterdam for some years it simply became too busy and too noisy (I like my sleep). One day I accidentally took the wrong boat to the north and realised that the free boats also went to the west. That's when I found this house. In 10 minutes I can bike to the center, but I can sleep peacefully at night. Best of both worlds. We live in the apartment on the ground floor.

What makes this apartment unique

Peaceful, wonderful sunsets over the field at the rear of the house, and a beautiful neighbourhood. Great bars and restaurants close by at the 'hip' NDSM Werf.

Excellent time had by all !

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying in this accommodation. It was certainly adequate for our needs as a family of four . Large spacious rooms and a kitchen in between plus 2 large bathrooms . Scott was very helpful and always prompt with email replies and on hand for any questions. We hired bikes from him for a trip to Zaanse schans which was a great day out although my backside took a while to recover !! Fab cycle path . The free ferry to central Amsterdam took 15 mins and was a 20 min walk roughly from the property . We visited Utrecht for a day on the train , very pretty . Hired a pedalo for four . Did most of the sites in Amsterdam just beware of the bikes ! They are literally everywhere! Weather was mixed , had a few downpours bit out of Scott's control ! All in all very good time . Thank you

A beautiful, quiet suburban area.

  • 5 of 5

Accomodations were spacious, comfortable and had everything we needed. The neighborhood was very quiet. Walking to the ferry was easy but we often chose to take an Uber. Owners Scott and Francisco were always available either downstairs or by 'phone. A very nice place to stay.

A well appointed comfortable apartment

  • 5 of 5

This was a well appointed comfortable apartment with two spacious on-suite bedrooms, and a common kitchen/living area with cooking facilities. The apartment is in a very pleasant suburban setting. The owner, Scott, was very helpful. It is a 15 minute walk to the nearest bus stop which we found very convenient to use to get into central Amsterdam. (But make sure you check with Scott about how to reach the stop which can be tricky but is easy once you know precisely where to go.) We had a great stay here.

Excellent very comfortable flat

  • 5 of 5

I rate it a 6 out of 5! :-)

Scott was the best host I've ever experienced in my many travels throughout the world. He went above and beyond.

The flat is very nice, designed for and set up perfectly for 2 couples. It has two large comfortable bedrooms with fantastic bathrooms (with plenty of towels as well as lots of toilet paper, top quality bed and bedding and so on). The bedrooms are set apart from each other with a comfortable eating/meeting area setup for 4 people as well as a kitchen equipped with most all necessities and then some.

The WiFi was fast as well as the tv's had lots of channels and Scott also provides many movies to choose from.

Two different bus lines are within a 8-10 minute walk.

A nice safe off the street parking spot.

Even a separate washer and dryer. I'm mentioning it as an example of the difference between Scotts flat and competitors as most rentals in the Netherlands have neither or will state "washer/dryer" while being either tiny or a combo which takes forever to do a wash/dry or by "dryer" they mean you get to hang up your clothes to dry. Scotts washer and dryer are separate units and worked great.

I could go on and on, bottom line is if you are looking for a comfortable quality place to stay in North Amsterdam or near Landsmeer I highly recommend Scott's flat.

Thank you VERY much for everything Scott and hope to be back within a few years!

City Fields B&B was perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We loved City Fields B&B and the neighborhood. The house was perfect for the four of us— Spacious and nicely decorated bedrooms, one with a terrace and baths with a shared kitchen perfectly appointed for breakfasts and evening gatherings after lovely days of seeing the sites. Being able to cycle into the city each day was great and made the experience even more enjoyable. (30 minutes easy to city center)

Scott was a perfect host and was willing to help in every way including leading us on an amazingly scenic daylong bicycle ride which was a highlight for all of us. We would rebook at City Fields B&B in a heartbeat.

Our house is located in the hip and happening Amsterdam North. It offers peace and quiet, but convenience to the historic center. It's located in an old village called Kadoelen, that has now been swallowed up by Amsterdam. It's walking distance to the NDSM Werf (Marina) which has a number of bars and restaurants. 2km the other direction and you'll be in the typical Dutch village of Landsmeer with many restaurants. There is a supermarket 5 minutes away from us and a nice locals bar, La Chambre, at the end of the street.

If you rent bikes, in just a few minutes you're out of the city into the beautiful Dutch countryside above Amsterdam. There are traffic-free bike paths through the fields to many famous Dutch villages and towns such as Broek in Waterland, Marken, Volendam, Edam and Durgedam.

Twiske nature reserve with its miles of bike paths, mountain bike trails, horse riding, diving, sailing and sandy beaches, including special childrens beaches, is just 2km. But you can also swim from the swimming platform in the river at the end of our street (just a few minutes walk).
