3 bedroom apartment, sleeps 6, 2 bathrooms, 2 balconies, in Rauris Valley

Top-floor apartment covering 92sq.m plus two balconies giving open mountain views on both sides. Three large double bedrooms, two bathrooms and an open-plan living/dining room with a fully equipped kitchen area and wood burning stove. The utility room with washing machine and separate dryer provides room for storing outdoor clothes and boots. Home comforts include TV and DVD player, CD player with iPod dock, second TV with Playstation and children's videos, variety of board games, books and DVDs. (TV - limited channels, English and German). Well-stocked local supermarkets in Rauris provide a wide choice and the village shop in Bucheben, just 5 minutes drive up the valley, has all the essentials, with fresh milk and bread and is also open on Sunday mornings. For eating out, the well-known Gasthof Andrelwirt and Gusto restaurants in Worth provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere with a wide choice of restaurants in nearby Rauris. The free ski bus and local post buses provide a reliable service within the valley, stopping 20m from the door.

The apartment: Our apartment is light and spacious, perfect for spending time with the family but with enough room to find a quiet retreat. It is airy in summer and cosy in winter with electric central heating and a wood burning stove inclusive. There are plenty of child-friendly activities provided and fully enclosed balconies ensure safety.

There is a car parking space in the large courtyard at the rear of the property and private bike storage is available.

The area: Rauris has two well-stocked supermarkets, two bakeries, one with a coffee shop, and various clothing and outdoor sports shops. Bank with ATM, a post office and tourist information office, (where you can buy teh Salzburgerland Karte which gives free access and discounts for many attractions). There is a visitors' centre for the National Park Hohe Tauern attached to the town hall. Coach tours of the surrounding valleys operate from the town centre. Rauris has many hotel bars and restaurants offering a wide variety of food and a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Travel: Salzburg airport, which is served by the low cost airlines, is just over one hour's drive away. The nearest train station with direct services to Salzburg and Innsbruck is just 10km from the apartment and can be reached with the local Postbus or taxis. Car hire is recommended but not essential as public transport is very efficient.

The medieval town of Rauris and the ski lift station are 4km from the apartment. The nearest large town is Zell am See which is 25km distance. Salzburg is approximately 85km and Munich airport 220km. The Thermic Baths and Wellness Centre of Bad Hofgastein is 23km and the newly opened Tauern Spa in Kaprun is 24km.

Ahhh.....the mountains!

Our family of 5 (3x kids, ages 9.7, and 2) had a fantastic time in Rauris. The apartment was wonderfully appointed and provided for our every need. Everyone had their own bed and there was plenty of room to spread out. The kitchen was well-equipped and having the washer was especially welcome. Parking was very convenient and the apartment provided a fantastic base from which to walk and hike the mountain trails. Our children quickly found the nearby playground and enjoyed walking along the stream in town. There were plenty of informational materials about the area and its attractions as well as maps and guides that helped us plan our days.

Hohe Tauern National Park provided a spectacular setting for our hikes as did the smaller valleys and villages in the area. Whether hiking it all by foot or riding the gondola from Rauris to the Hochalm, there always seems to be a mountain hut with a good drink and lunch waiting for you. Day trips to the spa/pool at Kaprun, the casino in Bad Gastein, or the lake at Zell am See are also easy to reach and offer plenty to keep everyone busy.

When we plan our next trip to Austria we'll definitely be calling the Thornes back! Thank you Andrew & Lisa!

Attractive apartment in a good location

This is a comfortable and attractive apartment in the Rauris valley which was not as busy with tourists as the neighbouring two valleys (Gastein, Kaprun). The other two, however, are easy to reach for more good walks if, like us, that's the primary reason for a summer visit.

For walking, a personal tip is to acquire, e.g. from Amazon, the Kompass maps 030 (Zell am See - Kaprun) and 040 (Bad Gastein) which cover all 3 valleys at a scale of 1:35 000.

Rauris has enough good shops to keep you supplied 7 days of the week. Andrew the owner wants you to enjoy your stay and was very helpful with personal suggestions and local tourist information.

For a modest additional cost you get good WiFi. Don't bother reading emails, use it to find good tourist info and enjoy your holiday.

We had a nice time.

Ski Holiday in Rauris

Apartment rented for 3+weeks and was ideal for a quiet spring brake, quiet location in the town of Wörth. Apartment is well appointed and fully equipped, clean and functional. Parking on site with friendly and helpful locals living down stairs. We enjoyed late spring skiing, hill walks and cycling in the valley. two good equipment rental shops in Rauris with friendly and helpful staff. Will go again.

Loved it!!

The apartment is well equipped, clean and very comfortable with lovely views from the balcony. All home comforts.

Decent size bedrooms with big comfy beds and two bathrooms.

It was also nice that both the double rooms were not close to each other giving us plenty of privacy.

We enjoyed our evening drinks on the balcony watching the sun go down.

Neighbours were friendly and also the information centre was practically next door and the staff there were very informative and helpful.

We enjoyed the local walks, especially the gorge in Taxenbach, it was amazing. Another lovely walk was the circular walk up the mountain to Urwald, it was quite fascinating.

A car journey worth doing was to Mondsee and Halstatt. A lovely full day out.

I can recommend the boat trip on the lake at Mondsee.

There is such a lot to see and do in the area, it's not just a winter resort for skiers.

The local restaurant, Andrelwirt (walking distance) is worth a visit. We had fab food with good service from friendly staff.

Rauris, about 2 miles away, is a lovely little town, very pretty.

All in all, we had a really nice time and thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your lovely apartment. We hope to be back sometime in the future.

Heerlijke week !

Fijn appartement dat compleet is uitgerust. Als Hollanders misten we alleen een koffiezetapparaat, de rest is ruimschoots aanwezig. Lekker veel ruimte in het appartement, met 4 volwassenen en 2 kinderen prima te doen. Met zoveel man heeft dan ook nog iedereen elke dag een heerlijk warme douche. Fijne skipistes, lekker overzichtelijk zodat de kinderen ook zelf op pad kunnen. Volgend jaar weer!

Lovely spacious apartment

Lovely spacious apartment ideal for skiing in Rauris a few KM away. There were 5 of us; 2 adults and children aged 16,11 and 5. The open plan kitchen and lounge was adequate for our needs and there was a good selection of DVD's to watch in the evening. The 2 bathrooms were great when we were all trying to get ready in the morning. We sampled some of the most delicious food I have ever tasted at Gustos restaurant that was a couple of minutes walk away. This more than made up for not being in Rauris itself. The correspondence from the owners before, during and after our trip was excellent, and they were extremely accommodating. We will definitely visit Rauris again.

The Rauris valley is a popular location for both winter and summer activities. In winter, Rauris has family-friendly skiing with well-respected ski schools. The skiing area (950-2200m) with 30km of slopes offers something for all standards with typically uncrowded slopes. (Free ski bus 20m from apartment).

In the summer there is walking for all abilities along marked routes with regular refreshments stops. Mountain biking is also well catered for with a good network of marked routes for all standards. Rauris has a heated outdoor swimming pool in an elevated position providing swimming 'with a view', indoor and outdoor tennis courts, squash, paragliding and various sauna and wellness facilities. Horse riding, rafting and gold panning are all available nearby. The presence of bearded vultures and golden eagles within the valley provide an added attraction to visitors and further information is available from the newly built bird information centre located next to the apartment.

The washing machine and clothes dryer are in a separate utility room away from the kitchen. The apartment is on one level on the second floor. It is accessed via a traditional stone staircase but does not have a lift. This might be difficult for the elderly or infirm. Both balconies are fully boarded and child friendly but supervision is recommended.
