Directly above Dawlish Town Beach and on the coast path. Getaway and listen to the waves all day, or explore Devon - Dartmoor, Exeter and Totnes all nearby. Close to town centre.

Two bedroom apartment, attached to Victorian Watch House, with sunny, open plan living area with fabulous outlook onto beach and sea. Patio views to Exmouth and Portland Bill and to the famous “Parson and Clerk” red cliffs and Brixham. Beautiful morning sunrise views. 'Delightful and magical'. 'Great retreat'.

Well equipped with ensuite bathroom and ensuite shower room, WiFi and FreeSat, washer-drier, bedding included, pets welcome (additional fee applies). Not suitable for those with limited mobility (steep access with steps ). Quiet bedrooms.

No vehicle access, so short walk from on-road car parking. Directly above end of Dawlish station platform

There are regular buses to Exeter, for city centre sight-seeing and shopping, with its lovely traditional Cathedral, a newly developed Quayside and many shops and restaurants, theatre, arts cinema, etc.

As well as the ferry from Starcross to Exmouth, there is a round-the-bay boat trip from the pier at Dawlish which runs throughout the day during the summer.

Access: Access from the Exeter Road is a steep public path with one section of steps, around 30 metres.

The path is for public access to the beach as well as for the Watch House & Coastguard Cottages. You may have a short walk to find the car parking space, and a 5-10 minute walk to the High Street shops.

Arriving by car on a summer Saturdays - approach Dawlish from Teignmouth, rather than Exeter, as the road through Starcross is very narrow and there may be delays.

Shopping and Eating: Dawlish is a thriving town with plenty of cafes, bars and wine bars, and good shops for daily shopping, snacks and baked goods. Try Gays Creamery on the Lawns (with the famous black swans), and Deli Delicious, where fish fresh from Brixham can be ordered. All are within 5-10 minutes walk.

There are family-style pubs on Marine Parade and a short walk away, Smugglers Inn at Holcombe along the coast path to the West (~30 minute walk) and at Dawlish Warren to the East (15-20 minutes walk).

Walkers can try Cockwood, just beyond Dawlish Warren, where there are two fine pubs for dining.

We have just returned from a few days at your apartment. Wow ... it was brilliant and that view. I'm quite depressed already having just got back ! We have stayed in lots of places over the years and we would rate yours as outstanding - as a train fan sitting on that decking as people on the footbridge enviously tried to work out how on earth you got there was first class. We also enjoyed watching the engineers "at work!" Bless them, talk about how many men does it take to dig a hole etc but I'm sure they've worked hard. And I think it's the first time I've watched a security guard fishing ! Brilliant.

The comments in the visitors book speak for themselves. It was interesting to see in one of the books that it was previously a cafe. I commend you for your vision in transforming it. We do hope to return.

  • Bedrooms are quiet and at the back of the property, so the trains do not disturb you here. (Trains finish running between 10 and 11pm and there is an early train Mon-Fri at around 5.30am). The master bedroom has access to the 'Jack and Jill' bathroom, which has access from the hall also. The second bedroom has its own ensuite shower room. The single beds in the second bedroom are 30' wide and 72' long, and at 2ft 6ins (slightly narrower than usual).

The south-facing patio is stunning, with room for all to sit and watch the beach & sea and enjoy the sun. On the patio, and in the sitting room and kitchen with the patio doors open, you can see and hear the soothing sound of the waves, nothing beats it!! At high tide during Spring tides, the sea comes right up to the sea wall, so the beach then is available an hour or two before or after high tide. The beach below the apartment is generally sandy, but at times a top layer of stones is brought over by the waves. Dogs are allowed on the beach here even in summer. There is sea fishing from a nearby stone quay. Car parking is on the nearby roads. It is possible to stop for a short while only at the top of the path on the Exeter Road, where the pavement widens, for unloading. On-street parking is available up the side roads, uphill but a short distance!

Another Fabulous Stay!

Myself and friends stayed here in early February. No matter what the time of year, it's always a great time to visit No. 2 The Watch House. We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed a relaxing couple of days with spectacular views out to sea. With Dawlish centre within easy walking distance and the train station nearby, it was easy to forget the car for the weekend and still get around. This really is a very special place.

Amazing view directly on the sea-front

Unique location, with an amazing view out onto the sea. Also very close to Dawlish town centre, which can be achieved via a 5 min walk directly on the sea-front. You'll find Dawlish a lovely little town with a good selection of cafes and restaurants.

The apartment is equipped for everything you could need for your stay and don't be worried about the proximity to the train lines - the bedrooms are at the rear and we slept very soundly! Also seeing the trains pass-by, while on the splendid terrace, is simply charming.

If you're planning a trip to Dawlish, you couldn't do better than to stay here.

absolutely perfect

We've stayed in many cottages in Dawlish over the past 10+ yrs but this is by far our favourite. We stayed for a short break in February (our first winter trip to Dawlish) and we were treated to wind and stormy seas followed by lovely sunshine which could all be enjoyed from this property's location.

The property is well equipped and surprisingly spacious and having Netflix made it like home from home, especially on a winter evening.

There is no parking at the property but we knew this from having previously visited the area and it is clearly explained in the listing. We arrived on the train as dawlish is on the mainline and easily accessible. Even on the occasions we drive to Devon, train is always our preferred method of transport once we arrive-everywhere is accessible, regular service, reasonably priced and means we can both have a wine with our lunch or if we spot a nice pub.

We will definitely rebook, perhaps for a longer break in the summertime so we can make full use of the outdoor space and views.

Amazing location, fantastic sunrises, clean, comfortable and everything you need

Good communication booking and before stay, lovely spacious accommodation. Great for train lovers and coastal visits. Good location for exploring local area.

The property was better than we expected.

Great stay.

The cottage was a lovely place in which to relax and be comfortable, great position for whatever we wished to do. A New Year banner and card were waiting for us which was very thoughtful and David (the owner) texted us to see how things were during our stay so communication was great too.

Stunning position, clean, modern, all you need!

The position of this property is what makes it 5 star. The showers could be improved but were acceptable once we got the knack! Our 3 year old absolutely adored watching the trains go past from the balcony and the back drop was gorgeous. A few steps to beach, a short path into town, no issues parking a stones throw away. Perfect. The service/help from David was second to none. Thank you!
