About Donna Britton & Scott Gagnon

Your hosts Scott and Donna purchased Clark's Corner in 2013. Our goal from the start was simply to save to save this old house. 17 months later it was ready to again be lived in. We love old houses and actually like to work on them! We live right up the road on a farm and are available if you need anything. If traveling with horses we can accomodate them on the farm.

Why Donna Britton & Scott Gagnon chose Chester

Clark's Corner is located in western Massachusetts in a rural area with Lee-Lenox-Pittsfield to the west and Westfield-Springfield to the east. Backroads can take you to Northampton. The house is only an hour from Connecticut.

For outdoor enthusiests, this is one of the nicest areas with spendid hiking, boating, horseback riding, skiing and more.

What makes this house unique

This little old house has an interesting history. Part of Jacobs Ladder it was smack in the middle of the way when the sharp corner was eased. This made the front of the house into the back. The construction crew moving the road in the 1930's left the dynamite shed and we have kept it as a tool shed.

Guests enjoy the back yard and gardens, the sound of walker brook at night.

Excellent weekend rental

  • 4 of 5

Convenient to Becket and Chester. The right place for "getting away from it all". Remember to check out Chester Common Table on Main Street in Chester for locally sourced fare.

Quaint, lovely early period home

  • 5 of 5

My two girlfriends and I had a "girls weekend out" in the Berkshires and we stayed at this house. It is quaint, comfy and nicely done preserving a lot of the house's original make. Donna and Scott were very accommodating, even providing some basic breakfast items. The gardens are beautiful - lots of flowers and trees, a small vegetable garden and a little swing and outdoor chairs to relax after a day of sightseeing. The only drawback is that it is located on a busy road (the house is called Clark's Corner) and you can hear traffic even in the back bedrooms. So, if you're a light sleeper, this may not be for you. Otherwise, it is a good place to kick off your shoes and just relax.

Exploring the Edge of the Berkshires

  • 4 of 5

My family decided to spend some quality time together and thought that the Berkshires was far enough from our lives in the New York metropolitan area and close enough to drive to and feel like we were really getting away. We were greeted with low humidity and relatively cool temperatures after nice weather after the initial downpour on the drive up.

The house was the right size for our needs, having four adults and an infant, and we were able to prepare our meals easily. Donna and Scott left the basics in the kitchen and refrigerator to get us started when we arrived.

We explored the local area sights, such as MOCA, hiking in the area, walking around Stockbridge and West Barrington, and visiting with family and friends. We were able to slow down our pace from the daily routine at home.

The traffic in front of the house on Route 20 was robust at different points during the day. At times I could hear the river from across the road, and at times the truck tooling down the windy highway.

The house clearly had the feel of a historic home built over one hundred years ago. The antique furnishings added to ambiance. The kitchen had all of the amenities, and we also enjoyed grilling in the backyard. There were two full bathrooms, and the water in the house was sufficiently hot for all four adults to bathe one after another. However, the water pressure, especially for the hot water, seemed low.

It was an opportunity for us to hang out together and reconnect. Please be aware that there is no WIFI nor television reception, yet we were able to watch DVDs on the set in the living room.
