Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday chateau / country house in Divide

Located near the quaint little town of Wise River, Montana, Cliff Haven on Jerry Creek offers just about anything you could want in a Montana getaway. We built our home at Cliff Haven 25 years ago and we still love to spend time here on Jerry Creek although we are no longer living here year around. We spend time during the summer traveling to B.C. and we travel to Arizona in the winter, so this allows us to share our home with discriminating guests like you!

Why do we love this place so much? Well, we Love outdoor sports and especially fly fishing! We have fished literally all over Montana in our almost 35 years as Montana residents. Most importantly, we could have chosen anywhere in Montana to live, but we chose this area of the Big Hole River because in our humble view it offers simply the very best that Montana has to offer.

The Big Hole River just a mile down the road from us is one of the most unique and delightful rivers not only in Montana but in the entire U.S.A. Elevated to legendary status by sports publications in the 1950's, the Big Hole became one of the most popular and important destinations in the west. The many photographs of trophy Brown Trout in the 5 pound plus class which surfaced at the time literally insured the legend of the Big Hole. Those browns are still availabe today in ample numbers especially in the waters near our home on Jerry Creek.

But large numbers of trophy trout are only one of the attractions. Throughout its reach the Big Hole offers a variety of unique attractions. Every type of fly water and challenge is available fo the fly fisher from the pastoral upper river to the many riffles and boulder strewn runs throughout the massive Big Hole Valley, and then on to the deep 'big fish' canyons flushing out onto the agricultural lands on the river's downstream stretches.

One of the most rewarding characteristics of the Big Hole is the large variety of fish that can be caught. The Big Hole is the ONLY river in the lower 48 states where fluvial arctic greyling are native and can also be caught on the fly. I have had days on the Big Hole where I have caught tremendous browns and rainbows, enviable brook trout, then cutthroat and finally arctic greyling. That is known as a true grand slam, and a truly amazing, uplifting day of fishing! And, the Big Hole is the only place where it can happen!!

Delightful little Jerry Creek runs right through our property. Not only does it create a wonderful atmosphere, it is full of 10 to 16 inch rainbows, rainbow/cutthroat crosses, and pure cutthroat with a smattering of brook trout as well. Jerry Creek itself is tremendous fun yet challenging fishing.

Finally, for the fly fishing enthusiast, In addition to the phenomenal waters of the Big Hole, there are many 'blue ribbon' and trophy streams available within a short distance from our home at Cliff Haven on Jerry Creek. The Beaverhead, Jefferson, Ruby, Missouri, Rock Creek, Clark Fork, and many other of Montana's great fly fishing waters are all readily accesible for a relaxing and rewarding day trip from our home.

But fishing is not the only attraction! If you are a big game hunter, you are in the heart of it in Wise River country. Fleecer Mountain which can be seen from our deck is home to a 1000 head resident elk herd. Elk are in addition to white tail and mule dear, bears, moose, and goats. If you like to plink at gophers or other varmints, have at it!

In addition to GREAT hunting and fishing, there is hiking, bicycle riding (if you like a 156 mile ride through Wise River and other towns along the Big Hole, you can join the RatPod Ride in June, or just try any of the mountain bike trails around our home on your own), four wheeling, bird watching, photography, wild game viewing, sightseeing, camping, horseback riding, or just kicking back on the deck and watching Jerry Creek flow by. It can't be beat!

In the winter you can cross country ski, snow shoe, snomobile, ice fish, take a winter trek touring through the mountains, or travel to any of the three nearby downhill ski slopes available.

We try to keep our home nice, comfortable, and accommodating. It offers 3 bedrooms and three bathrooms, a den/office equipped with telephone, fax, shredder, and desks for those who just have to do a little work while they are here (we don't recommend it, but we are equipped for it), fireplaces on both floors, sun twin heaters to keep you extra cozy on those deep winter nights, a workout room with free weights, a bow flex machine, a Lifecycle eliptical, and a sauna. And at night, after all the fun and excitement, while sipping your favorite beverage, settle back and relax to a warm massage in our Human Touch massage chair!

We have owned our home here for over 25 years now, and we still enjoy it immensely. We have lived in it year around, so we have begun upgrading and will continue to do so. Our prices will reflect improvements as they are accomplished, so we encourage you to take advantage of the lowest rates now!

We sincerely hope that we have given you a better feel for why we LOVE our home a Cliff Haven on Jerry Creek! We know you will love it too, and we simply ask that you take pride in it, and care of it, like we do!

Thank you, and we very much look forward to hearing from you and to sharing our home in this most amazing part of Montana with you! All the best!!

About Dominic (Dee) and Teresa Carestia

What can we tell you about us? First, as you may have gathered, we LOVE our home at Cliff Haven on Jerry Creek - and now you know why! :-) We have been married for well over 30 years, and have raised our family here. Through that time, I have been fortunate to fish almost every piece of moving water in Montana. Even more fortunately over that time, I have spent over 1000 days fishing the Big Hole. We love the area, the people, and the opportunities to enjoy this amazing part of Montana. We highly recommend it to you!

Dominic (Dee) and Teresa Carestia purchased this chateau / country house in 1985

Why Dominic (Dee) and Teresa Carestia chose Butte

This property was our dream. We bought the land first, 80+ acres, from one of our neighbors back in 1985 and proceeded to build our home here. We have beautiful views, we are right on the creek, and this home was designed by my wife. We built a lot of it ourselves, and it continues to provide us with great experiences. We look forward to sharing some of what this place has to offer with you!

What makes this chateau / country house unique

What can we say that we haven't already said? Our home is ideally situated in one of the most beautiful places on earth. The rich variety of experiences that truly add to life are just too numerous to mention. One look from our home site to the cliffs above, the mountains downstream, and the beauty and music of Jerry Creek flowing by, and we were sold - and still are!

We had a great time fishing the Big Hole river. Also explored the Wise and Madison as well. The house was great. Plenty of room and everything we needed. Sitting out on the deck in the evening eating dinner was great. No one around and quiet with the just the noise of Jerry creek in the background. If you want to fish the Big Hole this is a great location for that. Dee and Teresa answered all my questions promptly either by email or phone.

We loved Cliff Haven!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week in Cliff Haven on Jerry Creek. The fishing on the Big Hole River was excellent. We fished the river all the way from Maiden Rock up to Fish Trap. Interestingly enough, by far the best fishing was a few hundred yards upstream from the Jerry Creek Bridge -- only one mile from the house! We also went on a many beautiful hikes in Divide, Jerry Creek Canyon, and the Wise River Valley. The location of the home is very private, and the accommodations were perfect for our family of four. It was a real treat to listen to the peaceful, soothing sounds of Jerry Creek in the still of the night. Highly recommended.

Jerry Creek Cabin and what a haven it is!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Cliff Haven Home on Jerry Creek for a week. It was honestly not enough time to see the area. The Cliff Haven is set right next to Jerry Creek which you can see and hear. From the living room and master bedroom you have a fantastic view of fields and mountains. We enjoyed the clouds and sky as the sun set in the afternoon. Every evening was different. The master bedroom was wonderful. The bed was extremely comfortable, my wife loved the Jacuzzi, and the stars through the skylight was something to behold. The Cliff House was an extremely nice home with all the amenities you need.

My wife and I fly fished the Beaverhead and Missouri rivers with a guide who happened to be our host's son. Our host also gave us a number of tips of where to go wade fishing on the Big Hole, Jerry Creek and other area creeks. He also suggested several float trips to take in our boat on the Big Hole. One of these tips resulted in one of the largest brown trout I have ever caught. It was 25 inches and was caught above the Jerry Creek bridge on the Big Hole. I am still excited about that fish. My wife and I also floated the Big Hole in our boat from Divide to Maiden Rock. The river was low with plenty of rocks to avoid but we caught fish!

One of our highlights was a road trip west along the Big Hole, through Wisdom, Jackson, then north along the Wise River Scenic road. Outside of Wisdom we pulled off the road for some pictures and a local rancher came by after seeing our Texas license plates. He told us he had been stationed in San Antonio in the 60's and had fond memories of his stay. About 45 minutes later we had found out all about ranching in the area, how hay is stacked, irrigation, hunting and the history of the area!

We only ate out at two places during our stay. The Hitching Place in Melrose, about 30 minutes downriver, has great burgers and pies. Saturday before we left, we went to Butte which happened to be celebrating Evel Knievel Days. This was a lot of fun! We ate lunch at Metal's Spirits Bar and Grill which had great food a neat atmosphere.

Thank you for sharing your home with us. We loved it.

Thank you also for taking such good care of our beautiful home. You two are welcome back anytime!! All the very best! Dee & Teresa

We loved the location with the creek right by house .And Big Hole River one mile away enjoyed fly fishing. We brought our quads and rode from the house for miles on forest service land. Not far from Butte Montana were we explored the mines. Went horseback riding one day near Butte. We would recommend this home. Loved the massage chair after a hard day of riding. Thanks for a great home for my family to enjoy. Ray.

Owner's Response: Many thanks to you and your family, Ray! We enjoyed having you as our guests and we are glad that you fished our creek and the river, rode horses, 4-wheeled right out from the house onto miles and miles of BLM and Forest Service lands immediately behind our home, and relaxed in our massage chair at the end of your busy days. The massage chair is a great way to relax and recharge after an active day recreating on our place and in the beautiful Big Hole area! We would love to have you and your family return, and again, we are so glad that you enjoyed yourselves and granted us your wonderful review!! All the best!! Dee & Teresa

I would highly recommend this home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Cliff Haven home for almost a week. It was convenient for fishing many of the large rivers in the area. The kitchen has everything you could need. The house is large and easily accommodates 6 people. The beds are comfortable. Views are tremendous. One of our favorite things about the house was the openness to the outdoors. Picture windows everywhere, even for viewing the stars at night in the Master Bedroom. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!
