Overview

About the property

6 Acre 3/2 Lakefront Cottage On Lake With Private Dock, Boat

Just kidding! There is no Hollerin', Huntin' or Yachtin', but if peace and quiet is what you're after then this is the perfect place to relax and unwind. We welcome those who enjoy nature and can appreciate and maintain the peaceful atmosphere that we and our neighbors cherish.

We are located an hour and a half from both Nashville and Chattanooga in Altamont, TN on Monteagle Mountain at approximately 2000 ft. elevation. Our temperatures are 10-15 degrees cooler up on the mountain than in the cities

We are a family friendly retro cottage cabin nestled on 6 wooded acres next to a 10 acre spring fed lake which keeps it full pool year round as well as our own private dock and sun deck for swimming, sunning, floating, catch and release fishing and boating.

Well behaved pets are welcome for a small fee but must be on a leash when off the property. They are also allowed at most local hiking spots. Bring whatever you have that floats or use our 10 ft John Boat. (sorry no outboard motors allowed, but battery powered trolling and old school paddling are ok)

1400 sf two story cabin sleeps 8.

One private bedroom with queen bed downstairs, upstairs is a large loft split in half with a knee wall separating it into two loft bedrooms 1 queen size bed on one side and 4 twin beds on the other, linens and blankets are provided.

2 full bathrooms (downstairs bath has a clawfoot tub with a whimsical but useable watering can shower and a regular shower tub combo upstairs for the not so adventurous bathers)

2 walk in closets

hair dryer

Electric blankets

Ceiling fans in every room

Electric towel warmer

Window unit AC upstairs and downstairs. We prefer the doors open front and back and the great breeze. They might be stored away in cooler months.

1 gas fireplace, 1 electric fireplace

Well water and septic

Stereo with cd and cassette player and aux input. Front porch has small stereo with CD player in the CocaCola cooler w/aux input and Bluetooth for playing iPad/iPhone and or similar music device.

TV with DirecTV and DVD player in living room

Wireless internet

Telephone for Emergency 911 and local calls.

Eat-in kitchen, appliances, cookware, table ware, utensils, glasses. Basic spices.

Microwave oven, Coffee maker, electric kettle, blender, slow cooker/fryer, electric griddle, electric knife, electric hand mixer, toaster, electric stove /oven and bakeware, refrigerator/freezer with ice maker. Second refrigerator/freezer on back porch and gas BBQ and even an electric ice cream maker.

Front porch swing, bistro table and rocking chair.

Circular gravel drive and off street parking.

Lighted Washer pit, ring toss game, fire pit with outdoor chairs, dock with swim ladder and swimming buoy (Hootie the goose), 10 ft John boat with paddles and life vests.

Croquet, badminton/volleyball net, racquets, balls, dart board, Football, hula-hoop.

Board games, cards, dice and puzzles.

Dog beds (please no animals on the furniture , people are ruff enough)

Neighbors, we love them and ask that you not trespass on their property, not allow pets to roam the neighborhood, and keep music and noise to a minimum. (We're in a holler don't cha know and sound does echo, thus the name Hollerback)

Fireflies, lots of them around sunset. Just like stars in the trees.

Bats, yes, bats nest along the bluff and appear every night to eat Mosquitos, so we don't have many! but bring bug spray just in case.

Hummingbirds, if the feeders are out you are welcome to add nectar to them. (1/4 cup sugar, to 1 cup boiling water, let cool, fill feeders) They put on a great show all day long near the front porch.

Deer, they love to come to the salt lick outside the kitchen window. No hunting please, but feel free to shoot them with a camera if you are lucky enough to see them.

Raccoons, so lock up that trash in the metal can near the gate and don't forget to use the strap to keep them from getting into it, they are very clever.

Bears, just kidding, we have no bears!

About Julie Gross

We are a busy family of 7 with 1 small dog. We live in Jupiter, Florida and this is our second home. We are happy to share our little slice of heaven with others who can appreciate and maintain the tranquility that we and our neighbors enjoy. Our cabin is located on the outskirts of Altamont in what we call the Bible Belt surrounded by Mennonite farmers and families in a development called Deer Run.

Julie Gross purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Julie Gross chose Altamont

A peaceful, tranquil setting to enjoy family time and make lasting memories. We fell in love with this little gem and hope you will too.

However, if a party atmosphere is what you're looking for, we suggest looking elsewhere.

What makes this cabin unique

Relive memories from your childhood and create new ones with your own family in this Retro style Cottage camp. We have all you need to enjoy a relaxing time together in a beautiful lakefront setting.

Nice recharge

  • 3 of 5

There were a few things we could critique, the beds were a little firm for my taste, but of course that’s more of a preference. Went on the boat and it started taking in water, so we weren’t able to spend as much time in the boat as we would’ve liked. There was a nice selection of board games.

Overall we had a great time getting away, and enjoyed the solitude

Great place to enjoy nature and family

  • 5 of 5

The property has lots of space to hang and kids to run around. We were here at the peak of fall foliage so sitting outside and admiring the trees was fantastic.

Friends on the Lake

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this retreat.

Spent time on the lake. Played volleyball. Late night campfires.

Hiked at nearby Fiery Gizzard Trail.

Would recommend without reservation!

Overall it was good!

  • 3 of 5

The outside was awesome, which is where were we spent most of our time. Loved the fishing and dock, the grill and outside picnic area with the fire pit, lights and the yard, that was all very relaxing. The inside however was much less impressive with way too much clutter, no water pressure to shower in either bathroom . The whole place could really use a deep cleaning! Many expired condiments in the refrigerator that should have been trashed long ago. We also own a vacation rental and in my experience I would be getting a new cleaning service! Just saying

Quiet, relaxing and fun!!!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at this location! It was very quiet and peaceful. Great for a family! We woke up every morning and walked out to the deck, the weather was beautiful! There are many activities right on the property! We played darts and some type of horse shoe game. They also had a fire pit, volleyball net, small boat, some bikes and hammock! Wish we had longer to stay! Julie quickky answered any questions we had while we were there!

Location

Car: necessary

Altamont is the county seat for Grundy County. It is a small town that can boast it has not even one traffic light. There is a corner market for gas and snacks and the best Broasters fried chicken ever! But get there early or its gone. Dollar General for other groceries and supplies, Walkers Video for dvd rentals and great homemade foods like pizza, burgers, chicken and salads. There is a small library, pharmacy, and coin laundromat/ car wash on hwy 108. And a convenience center for garbage drop off, since there is no garbage pickup on the mountain. We recommend taking your trash with you each time you go into town.
