Great apartment, great views

  • 5 of 5

We did exhaustive research looking for a great place to stay and we probably came close to looking (online) at EVERY condo on the island that was available during this time. And this was the one we chose (#309). The view off the balcony was the main reason, and we never got tired of it. Sunrises at this time of the year were just off to the left, so you had to lean out a bit to see it - alternatively the view from the lawn downstairs was absolutely stunning. Worth getting up for. Every day. The beach itself (not even a 5 minute walk) was pretty quiet even on weekends, and on days the water was rough there were surfers out there, for entertainment. The apartment itself was well-equipped - the owners provide pretty much anything anyone could ever need. Yes the decor is a little kitschy and the furniture has a few knocks and dings, but we've stayed in numerous condos on all the main islands over the years, and this is actually one of the better ones in this regard. If you want spotless brand new furniture you're going to be paying a lot more, at a place much less nice than this. The bed in particular was ridiculously comfortable. We spent a week here in early September and never needed to use the AC - the fans were all we needed. Never had any noise problems, which others have reported in other apartments here. This unit is great because it's the furthest away from the street, and there's nobody walking around upstairs either. Noise won't be a concern in this unit. Only problem we had (intermittent WiFi outages) and we called the owner, who immediately called the Cable company, who did something at their end, and the problem was fixed. Great responsiveness. There's a GREAT pool here too, and two really good bakeries just steps away for coffee and muffins in the morning while watching the sunrise. I have mixed feelings about posting this review, because now EVERYONE'S going to want to stay here, and we won't be able to get back in next time we come.

Central location, very close to Lydgate beach and playground

  • 5 of 5

We have enjoyed our stay at Wailua Bay View 309! It's conveniently located: 5 min drive (15 min walk) to Lydgate beach, 30 min drive to Poipu and 1 hr to Princeville. The Wailua beach that is right next to it is not really suited for swimming, as the river is close and water gets murky, but has good waves for boogie boarding in the evening. And you can't beat the the ocean view from the 3rd floor.

The property was exactly as described, has enough pots and pans for cooking, wooden floors, washer/dryer in the unit, AC in the living room. AC is mainly needed during the day/evening hours, as the condo gets cool breeze from the ocean during the night.

The pool is clean and warm, and the property is well maintained.

There is a small shopping center right across the street, ABC store very close, and Longs Drugs, Foodland, Safeway within 10 min drive

Simple, bachelor pad

  • 3 of 5

The price is great, the place in clean, but it needs a facelift. It reminded us of a bachelor pad. Old dishes, kitchen, bathroom, windows that don't work or are broken and decorations need help. I've seen some of the other units and they're newly remodeled and are beautiful. The location of this unit is good in that you don't get all the traffic noise. Wailua Bay View property is clean and well maintained. The view of the ocean is amazing and we spent a lot of time on the deck. The owner was wonderful to work with and replied quickly.

Many friends told us to stay on the east side because it's centrally located. We decided to stay up north for the first week and the east for the second week. We're glad we did it this way, because we ended up doing a week's worth of activities up north. We had less travel because of this decision. It was good to be in Wailua Bay the second week because it was close to Kapaa but south of it, so we missed the traffic. We did a lot of activities south of Wailua Bay while there.

We loved the restaurant Lava Lava. They have outdoor seating, it's right on the ocean and walking distance from the condo. Just beautiful! We also liked Kilauea Fish Market (restaurant), Passion Bakery and Street Burger. We did the helicopter tour with Blue Hawaii and it was amazing. Our favorite was the flight over the Napali Coast (how could it not be?) and also going into the volcano. Our eyes were so stimulated by the beauty that it's hard to describe. Be sure to purchase the video on USB. You don't want to forget this place. The walks on the beach were great. One day I walked from the condo south to Nukolii Beach Park and another day I went running north past Paliku Beach. It's not one continual path, but you can find it. We hiked Sleeping Giant, Moalepe and Kuilau Trail - stunning.

I would recommend purchasing Franko's Kauai Guide Map and The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook (book or app).

Quite wonderful

  • 4 of 5

Falling asleep to the sounds of the surf was really wonderful, as were dinners on the balcony. And the location is nice and central as well as close to the river. Just make sure you get the lock box code before you go there. I had received an email implying it would be in the info in the "HomeAway" app, but it wasn't. Fortunately the building manager was around and contacted the owner.

Great place on Kauai

  • 5 of 5

While in Kauai for 4 days we really enjoyed this condo. It was everything I read about. Once your on the balcony, it's like your looking at a post card, what a view. The ocean seemed ruff for us but did see people surfing and a few on boogie boards. There are other swim-able beaches near bye though. The unit was stock for everything you would need. We only ate breakfast there, had to buy a few things like toilet paper and bottled water. We had laundry detergent but there was some already there. Left everything for the next renters. This is at a great location. We did South and west the first day to the Waimea Canyon. North the next day to the end of the road. All was beautiful and nice beaches. Last full day was a kayak trip up the Wailua river to Secret Falls a 5 hour journey with my parents celebrating their 60th anniversary. Well worth the work to get there. We slept with the balcony window opened every night, didn't need the air conditioner. Listening to the ocean and breeze was terrific. Only heard vehicles a few times. Screen door was tricky, but once you get use to it, it was OK, just be gentle with it. Ate at three different restaurants across the street, Mexican food and pizza were good Chinese restaurant wasn't to great. Japanese restaurant up the street had good ratings but we didn't make it there. Had a Wal-Mart nearby and a few markets. You do have to walk up three flights of stairs but that was now big deal for us, the views were worth it. For your information Coco Palms Resort where Elvis made Blue Hawaii is across the street. It was ruined by a hurricane and never rebuilt. You can see parts of it through the trees, to bad someone never rebuilt there. Only complaint we had is we didn't stay there long enough, maybe next time. Also after visiting 4 island, we all said Kauai was our favorite. Mahalo for a special unit on the ocean. Hope to come back someday.
