About Jeff Clary

I moved to New Orleans in 1993 to attend Tulane University. And the City that Care Forgot wasted no time sucking me in. As a young man, my Uptown neighborhood met my every want and need - a half block from Mardi Gras, a quick stumble to some of the best live music in the city at Tipitina's and Le Bon Temps, fine eats at Dick and Jenny's, and plenty of libations within striking distance. Now I am older, with three children, and though my needs have changed the neighborhood still provides - ice cream at the Creole Creamery, snowballs at Hansen's Sno-Bliz, two playgrounds, a children's library, and pizza.

And of course Mardi Gras.

I have moved three times in the last 15 years. Never more than 6 blocks.

What makes this house unique

Our lovely house is located Uptown and is a laid-back residential area known for its oak trees and landmark restaurants like the late-night Camellia Grill and the iconic Jacque-Imo’s, serving Creole cuisine. Venerable live music venues include the Maple Leaf Bar, for brass bands, bayou tunes and dancing. Quirky bookstores and indie clothing boutiques line Oak Street, while Palmer Park has a popular monthly art market. Boutiques and antique shops sit alongside fine-dining restaurants, casual cafes and local bars on and around Magazine Street.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Arriving at Jeffrey's place was a refuge from a day's drive in the rain. The home has everything you need whether you plan to stay put or explore. It's within walking distance to dining and groceries. Would definitely stay here again. It was perfect for our group. Comfortable common places and space for privacy. Loved having two complete bathrooms!

Not too far but far enough from Bourbon Street ;)

  • 5 of 5

This house is deceiving but open that door and so roomy and clean. Great Art depicted on walls. Comfy beds tho the pillows need to be exchanged out. Plenty of towels. Rain head showers - we were a big fan! Bathroom Light/Fan/HEAT Fixtures wonderful in the morning to have on while showering. Gas Stove - Bonus! The one thing we missed coming from Michigan where it was still winter and arriving in NOLA were (oh my gosh) it's SPRING and warm were screened windows and a screened front door. I found out it's the norm for this area but oh how we would have loved that.

We didn't rent a car which for us wasn't a problem. Mostly walked everywhere to the most fantastic dining places within a mile of this house. A mile to the trolley to get to the Quarter.

Uber and Lyft - never an issue. and lets not forget the underrated and forgotten Buses. Public Transportation is not an issue.

We did our own Garden District tour and Lafayette Cemetery with our iPhones.

Lots of Music Venues down on Frenchmen's street.

Jeff was easy to work with and accommodating to our schedules. Him and his wife left great itineraries on where to eat, what to see. We hope to get back next year for Jazz Festival.

It was Home away from Home!!!

great location

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was awesome. Jeff is awesome. He meet us at the house and brought us some extra things likes blankets and baby stuff. The house was perfect for our situation with two kids. We put the kids on the futon and slept in the other bed and our other house guests stayed in the 2nd bedroom and one on the couch. The house is clean and comes with most everything you would need including some DVDs for the kids. We didn't do a lot of cooking but things like tin foil or Tupperware would have been a good addition but not a necessity.

Perfect for two couples looking to visit New Orleans!

  • 5 of 5

The home was tidy and perfect for our 4 day trip. Inexpensive Uber ride to the French Quarter and other areas in town. Frankie and Johnnies right across the street is a great place for a night cap as well as crawfish and other local favorites. Very convenient location and nice area to stay.

Great house, good location, moderate street noise

  • 4 of 5

This house is spacious, clean and well furnished. Air conditioning and all appliances worked well. We had plenty of room for our family of 4 -- with two teens, it's always helpful to have a second bathroom. Lots of extra towels and linens.

The location is away from the congestion of downtown/French Quarter, but that was what we wanted, and it's easy to get to the tourist zones by car, bus or streetcar. We liked walking and running in Audubon Park and along the river. From the house it's a quick walk to Magazine Street shops and restaurants – Shaya (modern Israeli food) was unbelievable, and Juan's Flying Burrito was great too. Several good clubs (Tipitina's, Maple Leaf) are out this way. If you have a car, there's easy street parking out front.

My only note is that although Uptown is a quiet neighborhood, Tchoupitoulas is a busy street with a fair amount of traffic noise, and an active rail line runs a few blocks behind the house. It quieted down from 9 or 10pm until 6-7ish in the morning, and we didn't have any problems sleeping, but travelers who are very sensitive to noise might want to factor this in. (Although if noise really bothers you, New Orleans might not be your ideal destination.) Otherwise, highly recommended and a good value – we would rent it again.
