About the property

Sleeps 11-15, Close to the Gondola and Nordic Ski Center. Luxury throughout.

We built our mountainside home to an exacting standard so that our guests could relax in luxury. We have created what we believe to be one of the more unique homes in the area and since we use it often the upkeep and maintenance are well taken care of. Some highlights include:

-SIZE: 3200sqft/297sqm custom designed corner lot home sleeps 11-15 people, 11 in their own beds.

-LOCATION: Ski in/Walk out access to Kicking Horse Mountain Resort (walk out being a 4 minute walk up the street). It’s also one of the closest homes to the Nordic Ski Centre for cross-country skiing.

-ACCOMMODATION: 4 bedrooms. Upper level oversize master suite + den, walk in closet and large bathroom creates the perfect sanctuary. Second bedroom on the top floor sleeps a further 2-3 people. Lower level media room contains a further two bedrooms + full oversized bathroom. If needed there are two double sofa beds, a large day bed and a Pack n' Play/Baby cot.

-RELAX: Master suite contains a deep soaker tub and separate custom built tiled shower, second full bathroom has another tub/shower and another separate shower. Main floor bathroom has a large rain shower just off the mudroom so you can ski/bike to the garage and get straight in. Plenty of couches and reading nooks as well as a private 6 person undercover hot tub.

-CUISINE: We love to cook and our full kitchen reflects this, we have included a GE Gas range with convection oven and broiler, as well as a slow cooker with rice maker function. Large Fridge/Freezer combo, microwave, dishwasher, two sinks plus coffee maker, toaster and all the utensils you could think of. Undercover BBQ on the main floor deck + indoor seating for 13. Perfect for entertaining large groups.

-TECH: Free High-speed WIFI throughout. Media room contains full home theatre including Apple TV, Free Netflix, HBO, Cable, Blu-ray player, PlayStation 3, iPod dock, 50-inch wall mounted plasma and a 5 hidden speaker + subwoofer system. Master suite contains Apple TV, Free Netflix, HBO, Cable, Blu-ray player, iPod dock and a 40-inch plasma.

-COMFORT: Digital Panel heating system controls forced air throughout. Heated flooring in all bathrooms + Garage. Media Room and all bedrooms carpeted. Humidifiers provided in all bedrooms, plus large movable fans for the summer.

-COZY: Large comfy couches, and a huge wood burning fireplace in the great room. Two temperature controlled gas fireplaces located in the master suite and media room. 3 fireplaces in total.

-FAMILY: We created two separate entertainment/living areas, the lower basement level and the master suite level on the top floor. Both the master suite and the basement area are home theatre ready so if kids are watching Disney on one floor the adults can be watching HBO on the other. Want to hang out together? Try the great room with it's roaring wood burning custom fireplace, perfect for family game night and watching the snow fall. We have also included kids utensils plus a high chair for the little ones as well.

-STORAGE: Heated Garage with plenty of firewood and space for skis/boards. The Mudroom off the garage contains a generous bathroom with rain shower, washer/dryer and heated floors to quickly dry out and store your gear.

FULL DESCRIPTION: -

Equidistant from Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and the Nordic Ski Centre this custom-built full timber-frame home is perfectly located for you and your group to enjoy all that the mountain has to offer. There is plenty to do year round for the outdoor enthusiast, or, if you just want a relaxing week to unwind with the family take advantage of the modern luxuries located throughout the home. The house has been professionally landscaped and the fittings and furnishings are top notch.

Ski in/Walk out access. In the winter months a very short walk up the street and you can strap on your skis/board and ride down to the gondola in minutes. Easily done, even with kids. For ski in, approach the runs located near the pioneer chair and ski in via the 'Westside' run. For avid cross country skiers the house is one of the closest to the Nordic Ski Centre.

Three of the bedrooms have split kings (king beds that can be converted into twin beds). The fourth bedroom contains a double futon and a single bed in the loft near the master bedroom. For additional sleeping needs, there is a pull out couch in the master bedroom along with a day bed. Plus the media room also has a pull out couch. In total, we can accommodate 15 people, with 11 having their own beds. A crib/pack n play is available with a fitted sheet should you need it.

On the top floor the oversize master suite enjoys a sitting area, gas fireplace, large flat screen TV, Blu-ray player, cable TV, Apple TV and next to the sofa bed there is a sound dock for your iPod. The granite detailed en-suite spa bath is accessed via the walk in closet. A small balcony and a large picture window complete this private and luxurious top floor retreat. Another bedroom located near the top of the stairs provides yet another comfortable sleeping area.

The main floor enjoys soaring ceilings, has a spacious fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops. A large square dining table easily seats eight people, with another three people seated at the breakfast bar. The living room has amazing views, cozy couches and a large wood-burning fireplace. Just off the living room there is a wrap around deck with an undercover BBQ hooked up to a permanent gas line so you never have to worry about refilling a heavy tank. A sound system with CD player and iPod dock allow you to enjoy your own music by the fireplace. Relax with a glass of wine, your favorite book, and enjoy the 270-degree views. In the summer months open the windows and enjoy the mountain air.

Located just off the main floor through the kitchen there is a mudroom to put your wet clothes, along with a full washer/dryer combo and a bathroom with a tiled shower. This room has heated flooring and drying hooks allowing your clothes and gear to dry quickly. The garage also has heated flooring and racks to put your skis/boards.

On the lower floor there is ample space in the media room with a gas fireplace and a wet bar area. The two other bedrooms can sleep four in split kings. There is also a queen sofa bed and a full surround sound system with a large wall mounted flat screen TV. A Blu-ray player, Apple TV, PlayStation 3, Netflix, WIFI (accessible throughout the home) and an iPod dock are also included. A large second full bathroom with double sinks, separate shower, bath tub, granite counter tops and heated tile floors make for a spacious and comfortable area to unwind after your day on the hill.

Don't forget about the hot tub, which is accessible through the double doors in the media room downstairs.

About Gabriel Higham

I went to Golden and Kicking Horse Resort back in 2006 on what was supposed to be a one off trip. I was so taken with the place that I started building my house in late 2007 and completed it in 2009.

Having extensively traveled the world I still find myself yearning to get back to my 'home away from

home'.

This truly is a Mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. From skiing and snowmobiling in the winter months to biking, golfing and hiking in the summer, there is something for everyone and you don't have to put up with the crowds of some other year round ski resorts.

I have taken immense pleasure in building what I consider to be one of the most unique and enjoyable homes on the mountain.

Comfortable accommodations and beautiful surroundings

Our multi-generational extended family of 13 people (ages ranging from 6 to 76!) all enjoyed our visit to Dunvegan and the summer activities of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. The house's position on a northeast corner offered beautiful views of both the ski hill runs and of the valley and mountain range to the east. It was a short and picturesque walk to the gondola ride up the mountain, where we spied Boo the bear along the way, then hiked at the top and had a drink at Eagle Eye restaurant. It was an easy drive to the town of Golden to pick up supplies and the home's kitchen was well-stocked, making it easy to cook meals for a group around the sizeable dining table. Our only suggestion would be to add curtains to the large east-facing windows in the master bedroom as, in the summer months at least, the sunrise floods the room with light very early in the morning.

All communications with the owner and property manager were prompt and helpful, and our damage deposit was returned quickly. Thanks very much for a great stay!

50th Anniversary Celebration/Vacation

Eleven of us (6 adults, 5 children) stayed in this beautiful home while we visted Canada to celebrate out parents 50th Wedding Anniversary. This home exceeded our expectations. It was filled with all the amenities you could ask for. The home was large and everyone had plenty of room to spread out. We have stayed in many VRBO rentals, but this was our favorite. The owner and manager were extremely helpful, informative, and very patient as we were planning our trip. They were both extremely prompt in responding, something that we have not experienced with all VRBO rentals. I was tasked with finding the homes for this trip, both in Montana and Canada. My family was very impressed with this one. Thank you, Jon and Gabriel. You helped to make my parent's anniversary/vacation perfect. We would highly recommend this property to others.

Fantastic Place

We stayed three night with a medium sized group. All nine of us had lots of space and fun. Having a bed for each person was an added bonus. Easy access made checking in and out a breeze. Definitely would consider again if I was in the area.

Clean, well put, and overall amazing!

Property is exactly how it is described in the overview. Despite there being a haze from the wild fires, we had a fantastic time and was still able to make the best out of it! Amazing owner who promptly replies to any questions within a decent time frame. Wpuld recommend to anyone who is looking for a amazing mountain view and a quiet atmosphere.

Perfect Golden getaway

This property was more than we could have expected. A very luxurious space with all the amenities you could hope for. We had a rather large group but flexible bedding options allowed for everyone to have a comfortable stay. We've been renting lodges is Golden for numerous years and this is by far the most beautiful property we have had the pleasure of staying at. Thank you
