About Mrs Lawrance

This is our and our family's holiday home, which we are happy to let occassionally; up to three times per year, to help with running costs.

We are both retired and visit the house 5, or 6 times a year for various periods.

Mrs Lawrance purchased this villa in 2003

Why Mrs Lawrance chose Aigues-Vives

because we feel this property offers a real home from home insight to rural France. Being our 'home', this property is comfortable and well equiped; you can relax imediatelly and enjoy the benefits of the surrounding area.

What makes this villa unique

We chose this property for its unique situation amongst the vinyards of Languadoc. There is much to see and experience in the area, but it is not overcrowded with too many tourists. It is a good base for exploring further afield.

There is a garden swing with canopy on the terrace and an uninterupted view of the vine-yards from the back. The swimming pool is one meter deep for the first three metres and then slopes over a two metre area to a depth of two metres for the remaining five metres. There are built-in steps over one corner of the shallow end and a ladder at the deep end. The pool is large and private. The surrounding terrace is of natural stone. This really is a stunning area, which catches the sun all day long. There is a large stone BBQ and ample outdoor seating and sun beds. To the front of the property, there is a small paved, enclosed garden, where a tree gives that sometimes much needed shade. In the vilage there is a bar, a post office and of course the obligatory boulangerie. There are several supermarkets close by.

Live the life

  • 5 of 5

This spacious, comfortable holiday home is truly French, the owners have maintained its character whilst providing English home comforts. Our party consisted of four (senior) adults and the facilities catered for all our needs, with the added bonus of the superb swimming pool.

The house is clean and well cared for with comfortable beds and spotless linen, there are large sofas and an arm chair in the sitting room to watch Sky TV at the end of a day of sightseeing. A curved terazzo staircase is an interesting feature. The well appointed kitchen is large, in farmhouse style, with a huge table and typical french ambience. A selection of tables and chairs are provided for use by the pool. The property is situated in a small quiet cul de sac which provides safe parking.

Aigues Vives is a rural village surrounded by vineyards, the nearby small town of Trebes conveniently has a choice of supermarkets and small shops. Trebes, sited on the banks of the Canal du Midi, also has a selection of good restaurants .

For wine connoisseurs the area has many chateaux where 'degustation' is possible. The village Boulangerie provided delicious 'croissants and pain' at breakfast time.

The stunning medieval walled city of Carcassonne is just nine miles away, it is a treasure not to be missed. The small ancient town of La Grasse was another favourite destination, it is sited on the banks of a river and boasts cobbled streets and timbered houses along with a medieval abbey. It is a rare gem.

We would recommend this property for a relaxing holiday in a rural French village with a ready supply of local wine to suit all tastes!

Owner's Response: Richard and Brenda, who posted a review on our house in Aigues Vives, on 3rd July, have contacted us personaly to express their enjoyment of the time they and their friends spent there. The places which they mentioned are just a few of the pretty and interesting towns and villages to visit locally. Each time we go to the house we find another place worthy of interest. The latest one being an unspoilt village called Monz. We discovered this when going to a "Vie de grenier" which was advertised there and whilst exploring the stalls, we found more than just the road through. We thank Richard and Brenda for their kind review.

Relax and Unwind

  • 5 of 5

This is a great holiday home in a super location handy for sightseeing but in a rural location so it's peaceful at nighttime. We all felt immediately at home the moment set foot in the house. The house was very clean, comfortable and with all the conveniences of home. The kitchen is very well appointed and has a large kitchen table at which the four of us (2 adults and 2 mature teenage boys) enjoyed sitting, chatting, drinking copious amounts of red wine and lots of creamy brie!! The lounge features 2 large sofas and an English receiving TV thanks to the Sky box! If you want to read while the kids watch TV of an evening then there is a second smaller lounge with a bed settee, which is a great little hideaway. Outside the house there is the most wonderful large pool which has a proper deep end so is suitable for diving into, something that my eldest son thoroughly enjoyed. Around the pool there are plenty of loungers and chairs in which to relax and soak up the sun. The neighbours and villagers are very friendly but speak little English so I had to brush up on my best school French!! The pretty village of Aigues-Vives has a bakery, which is literally 1 minutes walk from the house, ideal for those fresh daily croissants! My youngest son was responsible for this errand he he felt very relaxed at going on his own to the shop. As for shopping and sightseeing then a car is essential, but Trebes is only a 10 minute drive away and has 2 supermarkets and several restaurants and the Canal Du Midi runs right through the middle of it making it quite picturesque. The house has a cooling breeze blowing through it, which is welcoming when the temperature rises. The property is also conveniently placed for visiting Carcassonne (obviously) and Limoux, Minerve, Mirepoix and many other sights. I would thoroughly recommend the house as an ideal base for sightseeing, relaxing and unwinding, but not for losing weight as the cheese and croissants will get you!!

Great holiday

  • 4 of 5

We had a great holiday at this house with lots of space inside. Everything is there and the pool and the house were very refreshing because of the hot weather we have got. The location is perfect to visit some very interesting sites in the area, such as Carcassonne, Trèbes, .... That there is no garden we solved by going to the local play with the children where there is a football, basket and tennis area you can use. A car is necessary because there is only a bakery in the town.

Home from Home

  • 5 of 5

Having stayed at the holiday villa on several occasions we have to say that this is a very clean and well appointed house with excellent decoration and furniture, some of which is antique and in very good condition. The bed linen, towels etc are spotles. The well equipped kitchen has a washing machine and diswasher. The lounge has two comfortable settees, a large armchair and a television that receives English programmes. The Bedrooms are spacious, comfortable and airy.

The outside area which has a large heated swimming pool and a good sitting area with B.Q is enclosed giving privacy. To the front of the property there is a shaded terrace ideal for a quiet read with a glass of the local wine

The Villa is situated on the edge of a quiet rural village not too far from Carcassonne, a medieval walled city which has a farmers market on Saturday mornings. We found the village to be within easy distance of many interesting places and the nearest beach about 45mins away

Having met the owners, we found them to be friendly people who take a pride in their villa

We both agree that this is the best Villa we have stayed in and would not hestitate to reccommend it to our friends and relations and look forward to our next visit

Perfect Holiday Home!

  • 5 of 5

This house is a real home from home! Very well appointed, with everything you could possibly need for a great holiday. There is a super pool, just great for the family and the house was a pleasure when it was hot - lovely and cool! Loads of places to visit, all within easy reach and the village bakery , 2 minutes away, for that relaxing holiday late breakfast. All in all, a perfect holiday for us!
