Overview

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Edinburgh - Carlton House

1 bedroom apartment to sleep 3 in Edinburgh's historic New Town

Designed by the architect William Playfair in the middle of the 19th century, Carlton Terrace, along with the adjacent Regent and Royal Terraces, forms part of Edinburgh's prestigious New Town district.

This comfortable one bedroom apartment within Carlton House has recently been refurbished and furnished. Situated on Carlton Terrace, one of Edinburgh's most elegant cobbled streets, this second floor apartment is in a prime location for the city centre attractions as well as its famous viewpoints such as Calton Hill & Arthur's Seat. The Royal Mile and Princes Street are both only a 10 minute walk away.

The apartment's position at the rear of the building ensures privacy, tranquillity and a south facing aspect.

Please note, this is a non smoking apartment.

Local Vicinity: As you walk out of the front door of Carlton House and face London Road Gardens, it is difficult to believe you are only a 5 minute walk from the vibrant restaurant and entertainment district of the East End of Edinburgh. The Playhouse Theatre which stages the latest musicals and shows is a 5 min. walk away and Harvey Nichols and John Lewis department stores are also within 5-10 mins. walk. Add another 5 mins. walk and you'll reach the shopping district of Princes Street and George Street.

Parking: Street parking is available on Carlton Terrace on a metered basis from 08:30-17:30 Mon-Fri but with max. stay 4 hours at any one time. Outside of these times, parking is free. You are virtually guaranteed to find a place right outside the property at any time.

Highly recommended apartment

  • 5 of 5

First, Mark - the owner - is a top bloke. Extremely helpful and always seems to have a minute to talk when you call up.

Second, the apartment is fantastic. All smartly furnished, very clean and spacious. And we were less than 10 minutes away from Princes street by foot. An extremely generous price for the high standard that is provided.

The description of the apartment is very accurate, and even though the third person takes the sofa bed in the front room, it never once felt cramped.

And there's a great French bakery 2 minutes walk away...but Mark'll tell you all about that when you arrive.

Highly recommended!

Phil

Superb home from home

  • 5 of 5

The property was beautifully appointed, whilst remaining homely and comfortable. The location is perfect, just a 10-15 minute walk to Princes Street or the Old Town, yet far enough away that peace and quiet is all you wake up to. We even saw squirrels! I have already recommended it to friends, and it will be my first point of call on my next visit to Edinburgh.

Perfectly peaceful

  • 5 of 5

This flat was the perfect spot to relax after the hustle and bustle of sightseeing. The location was within walking distance of attractions, but set apart enough that we felt like we were getting away from typical tourist spots. It was well stocked with everything needed to stay in and cook. It was well decorated and comfortable. The owner was very prompt with replies and very pleasant to work with. I highly recommend this property!

Wonderful apartment in a great Edinburgh neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

The flat is very elegantly and tastefully furnished, and the 12' ceilings in the living area are an added plus. The bath is great with both a tub and shower, the kitchen is modern and well-stocked, and the bed comfortable. We did a lot of walking and many of the city's attractions are within a 20-30 minute walk, including the Palace and the Royal Mile. There are several restaurants shops and places to get groceries within reasonable walking distance. For longer distances to the attractions, if you don't want to use a cab all the time, the bus system is very good. There are stops near the flat, and the system's website has a great trip planner function to tell you what bus lines are near the stops close to the flat. If you do have any mobility issues, there is no lift and 3 flights of stairs (but they are very wide). The owner, Mark, is great. He is nearby, and responded to emails both before arrival, and during our stay in a very prompt manner. If you are spending time in Edinburgh, We highly recommend choosing this flat!

Elegance in Edinburgh

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Carlton Terrace was like being transformed back to Victorian times. The only way to describe the flat is pure elegance. The furnishings, the 12' ceilings, the beauty of the building and area made for an idyllic stay in Edinburgh. The up-to-date conveniences of the flat made our stay very comfortable. Landlord Mark could not have been any more charming, seeing to our every need. We could not imagine a nicer place to stay in Edinburgh and if we return to Edinburgh we will certainly contact Mark again. If you want a great location within walking distance of all Edinburgh's major attractions AND if you want to pamper yourself contact Mark.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this apartment. It was cosy and tastefully furnished, with a gorgeous little kitchen. The area was quiet and an easy 15-20 minute walk into the old town and Princes Street, as well as to the Botanical Garden and the Waters of Leith (25-30 minutes). The owner, Mark, was easy to communicate with and met us at the

apartment, with many suggestions about sightseeing, restaurants, area shops, etc. We will definitely return to this apartment!

Edinburgh is steeped in history and as well as providing a city break location, it is also ideally situated for excursions to the beaches and golf courses of East Lothian and Fife.

The city is famous for its Georgian architecture, its open spaces and also its festivals, notably the world's largest arts festival in August and Hogmanay at New Year. The cosmopolitan feel of the city owes its thanks to its foreign visitors, university students and of course the local residents.

A walking tour of Edinburgh's architectural highlights starts on your doorstep and should go on to include the Royal Mile and the Scottish Parliament which are both within a very short distance.

Calton Hill, situated just behind Carlton Terrace is a must for any visit to Edinburgh as it offers fine views of the city and across to Fife and East Lothian. Holyrood Park with Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags are also within easy walking distance and here it is easy to forget you are in a city at all.
