Another lovely week, wonderfully warm & comfortable. Grandchildren love it here, despite the howling gale!
Friends of ours from Melbourne where we live recommended this atmospheric intimate bolt hole in Deal and it transpires that it is the ideal base with which to explore all that Kent has to offer. From our arrival the charm of the holiday house was absolutely delightful and the attention to detail very considered. A couple of minutes walk to the beach and amazing coastline with views to France, a series of historic winding streets seconds away from the house that evoke the world of Dickens and Chaucer. I would highly recommend staying here whether for a few days or longer, as a couple, family or small group it has everything you could ever want for.
Had a great time over the bank holiday weekend. It's a lovely place, the French House - everything you need for a comfortable stay but it still feels like a you're in a proper home instead of just holiday accommodation.
Lots of nice touches everywhere. The owners have obviously been hitting the vintage and bric-a-brac shops on the High Street - as we did!
We were worried that since there were just the two of us we might rattle around in a place that can sleep 7 (most places that are for two people end up being poky so we usually end up in somewhere bigger) but it's sort of cosy and large at the same time. Plus, we had the luxury of trying out the bedrooms, Golidilocks-style.
Good selection of pubs and walks, too, so we'd definitely come back.
What a lovely place. So quaint, cosy and seasidey. Loved it. House goregeous, comfy and all amenities. Town/resort so full of charater. Quiet, peaceful and charming. Great break.
Our stay at the French House it has to be said was one of the best we've had. We've stayed at many a holiday home over the years and for us this has to be in our top three.
It's contemporary in style, homely, clean, cosy and relaxing.
Everything has been thought of to make holidaymakers feel welcome and totally at home. They even leave a little welcome pack for your arrival. It's a hop, skip and a jump to the seafront and the High Street and in the streets around the house there are no parking restrictions - a bonus in this day and age but you have to be quick. All the rooms are tastefully decorated and furnished so nicely it made us feel we should update a few things back home. We'd definitely stay at The French House again. We've found a little gem of place, a great base to get out and about to enjoy the countryside, the seaside and surrounding towns. We'll be back.
We came here with our two kids from London - sooo easy to get to, only took us a couple of hours. We all loved the house, cosy but cool, with nice towels and bed linen, everything spotless and just so, but not so that we felt like we were on tip-toes trying not to mess it up. The kids loved the top bedroom for some reason, think it was the door at the top making it seem like a secret hideaway!
It was lovely to be so close to the sea and Deal has more to do than we'd realised, nice cafes and really great little sweet shop that has old fashioned sweets in jars. Broadstairs is close and has a sandy beach that we loved. Nice to have a walk on the cliffs, blow away the city cobwebs!
We're definitely coming back, have booked another stay next year!
Amazing house with a personal touch and location with helpful and friendly owners.
The price was good value and there's plenty on offer locally as well as within 30 mins drive in Whitstable/Broadstairs and Canterbury.
We have booked 3 times now with the owners and are already rebooking again. Perfect for all types - family, older people, romantic couple or a group of friends.
Once a 17th Century smugglers hideaway and an original Cinque Port, Deal is now a thriving market town, with historic fishermen's cottages, a Georgian seafront, independent shops, cafes, pubs & restaurants, yet only 90 miles from London & 20 miles from France (you can see the French coast on a clear day). Watch the sun rise over the sea, lie on the beach, walk or fish along the pier, enjoy the summer festivals and bandstand music, buy local produce from the Garden of England, visit Deal, Walmer & Dover Castles, walk or cycle along the coastal paths to the famous white cliffs, visit Canterbury, Sandwich, galleries at Folkestone & Margate, the beautiful Kentish countryside, or even France for the day. Play golf at world famous golf courses, or just relax & relive the seaside holidays of your childhood. With direct trains to London & ferries from the Continent, you don't even need to bring the car.
