Large Fully Equipped House With 5 Double Bedrooms, Private Garden And Large Pool
Dating we think from the early 1800s, this large house is in the centre of the historic village of St Privat des Pres. Originally the post relay station house and stables for the village it has been beautifully restored and modernised. It has off-street parking for 3 cars within the secure gated courtyard. The house is on three levels and is let to sleep up to 10 persons in 5 bedrooms, 2 with queen beds each with en suite bathrooms and 1 queen and two twins with shared facilities. It has a large modern swimming pool (open from mid June to early October), pool house, covered barbecue and terrace all within an enclosed private garden. The large lounge (with satellite UK TV) has a small bar room attached and there is a separate family room (with French TV) and library room also with satellite UK TV. The dining room is attached to the lounge and will seat 10 at one sitting. There is also an eat-in kitchen. The house is fully equipped and the village has a shop and bar within a 50m walk. We are also only 12km from the regional market town of Riberac which has everything you will need for your stay.
We are very proud of our house and wish we could spend more time there, but as we are now living in Melbourne Australia, that is not easy to do. The house has been fully renovated and modernised inside and is in a great setting, being located right in the middle of historic St Privat des Pres. The village is small but full of character and it is the perfect place to relax with your family and best friends, whilst enjoying one of the most scenic places in France. Although it can be quite warm in July and August the stone house keeps it lovely and cool inside and the large ~ 10m x 5m free form salt-water pool is most inviting.
The house has everything you need. A large kitchen for feasting, or al fresco near the pool. Plenty of space for everyone, two spacious lounge rooms and a library room means the parents can watch what they like on TV, and the children, what they like. Very comfy rooms and the most amazing main bathroom complete with claw foot bath in the middle.
Although the village is quite quiet most of the time, there are many great sites to visit in the region, many rich in pre-history. It is also a great place if you like to bike. The hills are undulating and little villages are dotted everywhere, making it quite exciting to go exploring by pedal power. A leisurely afternoon canoeing down the gentle Dronne river, just a stone's throw away, is also a great way to see the local countryside.
We keep a folder at the house with up to date details of all the sites and things to do in the area and have also drawn up a list of the main attractions which we will be happy to email to prospective renters upon request. The Tourist office in nearby Riberac speaks reasonable English and always has the latest information as to what's on.
Our guests over recent years have ranged from family groups who want to explore this part of rural France; to those approaching or who have just retired who are just seeking a restful holiday; to those who just want to explore the gastronomic delights of the Perigord/Charente region. Foie gras, cheeses, wines, cognac, duck, pineau.........
During July and August in particular, many of the local villages hold fêtes and attending these and participating in the Communal Meal is always a well worthwhile experience.
The Dordogne still offers a true taste of classic rural France. Even in this day and age. Whilst enough English is spoken in the towns to get by, the region offers an opportunity to try out your French, no matter what level it is at.
For Francophiles and those new to France, we believe the area offers a great holiday experience and currently with the exchange rates as they are, prices are most reasonable.
We hope you have a great stay.

About Andrew or Ineke Daley
We lived in the area for just over 3 years and our 2 sons 9 & 11 at the time went to the local French school in Riberac (12km). We thought it would be a great experience for them to live in another culture and learn another language. I worked in London and commuted weekly whilst my wife also learned to speak French fluently. When returning to Australia we decided to keep the house and spend on average 3-4 weeks a year there during the summer. To help with the costs of upkeep we rent it out to holiday makers, who want to experience rural France during the summer.

Great location and super comfortable
Within striking distance of lots to see and do depending on your wishes. Wineries, castles, foie gras and loads of fresh food for the foodies and river swimming, walking and canoeing for the active. Great house to come back to at end of the day. Loved it!!
Super comfortable with everything you need
Great location in small village but within striking distance of towns, wineries, activities and whatever may take your fancy. Great house and pool to come back to after a busy day out. Would have loved to stay longer
A charming house in a sleepy french village ..
What a truly wonderful house, it is in a fabulous location, a really pretty sleepy village. We spent a week in the house prior to our wedding at the chateau St. Privat des Pres, (just around the corner) and it was such a great decision as the house is beautifully appointed - lovely decor, and everything one could possibly ever need, a real home from home. The house feels very spacious and has a lovely light sitting room and lots of character throughout. The outside eating area was used for every meal! it was so lovely to sit outside and have breakfast on the terrace, it was so quiet in the garden that it didn't feel as you were in a village at all. Yet we were only a hundred metres away from the small bar and village shop. We would definitely recommend this lovely house to anyone thinking of staying in the area. Perfect for families or groups of friends. Thank you to the owners who were so helpful throughout. we would definitely like a return visit! Perhaps an anniversary ...
Thank you so much for your review. You were delightful guests and you would be more than welcome to stay again.
Beautiful House in St Privat Des Pres
This house is perfect for a wedding weekend in the village or simply for a family or group of friends enjoying the beautiful Dordogne. It's extremely spacious with a beautiful garden, swimming pool, BBQ and bar area. Excellently priced, too. Ineke was unfailingly helpful with information about the village and local area. Our stay could not have been better and I hope to return one day!
Thank you so much for your kind words and it is good to hear all went well during your stay.
Brilliant place - great for families
Wonderful old stone village house with all mod cons provided and super well equipped. Owner was very responsive to all queries we had and was able to assist us with suggestions of places to visit. The house and large garden were well maintained and the housekeeper was very friendly when we met her during the a linen change. Unfortunately we were a bit too early to use the pool but it looked very inviting. Plenty of space for all of us to spread out. Would definitely recommend.
spacious and well presented
We had 10 adults and hardly noticed each other! Lots of rooms to sit in and enjoy, great outdoors and well appointed kitchen. Lots of local attractions.
Set in the beautiful Perigord Vert, St Privat des Pres dates from the middle ages with plenty of history including a priory where the Pope once stayed and great example of the area's Romanesque churches. The village is surrounded by fields and forest and within an hour's drive there are many fine examples of châteaux of the region. The area is famous for its foie gras, cheese and walnuts and is only a short drive from the wineries of Bergerac and Bordeaux. St Privat is also very close to the Charente and the town of Cognac is approximately one hours drive to the north. Close by, the village of Aubeterre on the banks of the Dronne river has been named the most beautiful village in France. The Perigord region is famous for is food and cuisine and a visit to the auberges and restaurants of the region is one of the highlights of a holiday in the area. The market town of Riberac some 12km from the house is famous for its Friday market and well serviced with supermarkets and shops.
Other Activities: Tennis in village, swimming, tennis, horse riding in Riberac(12km) and golf within 15 minutes drive
