1894 Catskills Farmhouse retreat

Bedrooms 4
Separate WC's1
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

After a long winter (and great ski season) spring is finally arriving to the mountaintop. Enjoy a pleasant weekend in this well loved family country house. Secluded yet only 5 minutes to Hunter Festivals. Large renovated kitchen, cozy living room with Smart TV and stone fireplace. Deck has large hot tub, outdoor shower, grill, and an outdoor sauna. Large fire-pit, and lots of land. Perfect for a getaway.

We are on a secluded 5 acre parcel that backs onto a private reserve. Lots of wildlife sightings. The house is old and quirky and it has never "suffered" a gut renovation- but it is comfortable, very well maintained and everything works.

About Jack Deutsch

I have been a photographer in NYC for almost 40 years. I love living in the city, but need the countryside to escape, decompress, take snapshots, cook, build things, do projects and relax. We have been going to the Catskills since the late 80's and love how different it is from the city.

Jack Deutsch purchased this farmhouse in 1994

Why Jack Deutsch chose Tannersville

It is in a wilderness setting but it is only 2 1/2 hours from the center of New York City. You are transported to a place where you will see fewer people in a weekend that you see in 2 minutes in Manhattan.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Great hot tub and outdoor shower, Quiet, secluded but still only a short drive to the supermarket, village bars, restaurants, hiking trails and cultural attractions as well as Hunter mountain. It is accessible by Trailways Bus Service from Port Authority.

Fantastic Catskills retreat!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (6 adults, 1 baby, and a dog) had a great time Labor Day weekend at Jack's retreat. With 4 bedrooms, a wood burning fireplace and an impressive lot, Jack's home was the perfect Catskills retreat. Our dog ran for hours, while our family grilled and enjoyed the extremely spacious hot tub! Jack was ever accommodating, even going the extra mile by bringing us extra firewood to our front door as we got back from dinner. Extremely close to Hunter and all shops/stores, I'll definitely be back. Thanks Jack for a memorable weekend!

Idyllic farm house - surrounded by beauty

  • 5 of 5

Each person in our family of 4 enjoyed themselves immensely. A wonderful property equipped with a hut tub (my son's favorite) & perfect out door fire pit (S'mores not included ;). Hiking was the primary purpose for our summer time trip, and the recommendations for different locations were right on target as well. Our hosts are very friendly, & yet not imposing.

I highly recommend this charming farm house.

Wonderful, charming, and cozy!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in this charming vacation home. Not only was the cabin cozy, clean, and charming, it was also well laid out for renters. The kitchen was lovey and obviously made for making great meals. The fields surrounding the home provided a perfect view while cooking in the fire pit or lounging in the jacuzzi.

The owners were very nice and accommodating.

We highly recommend!!

Beautiful, quiet and secluded!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time staying at the house. The property was on quite a bit of private land, in complete seclusion. Our dogs had the time of their lives running around the backyard off their leashes. The hot tub and fireplace were a dream to further relax us. The town of Tannersville was very cute with good restaurants a nice antique shops. It's close to everything! The town, grocery store, wine store, hiking, waterfalls etc, were all just a 5-10min drive away. The house had everything we needed and was very cute and quaint. The mountain views were spectacular as well, and the leaves changing in mid-October were breathtaking. Jack was very accommodating as well, a perfect host. I'd definitely recommend staying here!

Jack & Anne's farm-house is the perfect Catskills getaway with all the modern amenities we tend to seek these days. It doesn't any get better.

My family arrived on July 2nd, and I'm not going out on a limb when I say we all fell in love with the property the instant we turned down its dirt road. The house itself has all the charm you'd expect from a 19th century build. There's a bedroom on the ground floor with its own bathroom, 3 bedrooms upstairs, 1 of which has a half-bath and skylight that allowed me to stargaze right from bed every single night. The living room is very comfortable and even offers a reading corner, as well as an AppleTV. The kitchen has been beautifully remodeled and features everything you'd need. (We do a lot of cooking!). There's also a full bath/laundry room off of the kitchen.

The yard is spectacular. I spent the vast majority of my time bouncing between the fire pit (which I'm very envious of) and the hot tub. There was also plenty of room for my dog to play on his runner- it's been a week since we got home and he's still barely recovered. There were also a couple of hiking trails off of the property I was able to bring him on.

For our purposes the location itself couldn't have been better. We spent many years renting a home during the off season in East Jewett. Which the farmhouse was mere minutes away from. Colgate Lake, The Last Chance Cheese Shop, North-South Lake, NY Ziplines; everything we wanted was at our finger tips.

Jack & Anne were incredibly kind and accommodating. It was a pleasure for us all to get to meet them. I would certainly recommend this rental to friends, family and anyone to be frank. We will unquestionably try to rent it again next year for the week of the fourth.

Some side notes: The Wifi is strong both inside and out. There was an Amazon echo available to us, which was great. The beds were all very comfortable. And last but not least, there was an abundance of wildlife. Keep your cameras handy!
