About Bridget Merrett

I am a police officer, my husband Mark is a teacher. We have been together for a little bit longer than we have owned our beloved apartment at Les Hauts de Landry. We are from the very flat East Midlands so were inspired to buy a little piece of the mountains which we fell in love with on our first visit there together.

Bridget Merrett purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Bridget Merrett chose Landry

We were drawn to this area because of friends who had moved out there to live. We visited in the winter to ski the amazing, vast, challenging Paradiski area and then again in the summer when we properly fell in love with the beauty of the area and decided we needed to own something there that we could escape to at will. The apartment when we bought it was just a shell - no kitchen, bathroom, not even walls or ceilings, but one look out of the windows at the incredible views and we knew we had to have it. It took us two years of blood, sweat and tears to turn it into the place it is today. Our aim was for it to be nothing like a typical alpine ski apartment so came a shiny red full sized ikea kitchen, primary colour furniture, white walls and above all space to swing as many cats as you like. The french would have crammed beds for at least 10 into this size space but that was not for us. We aim to live here in our retirement so everything was designed for long term comfort.

What makes this apartment unique

Size, space, views, comfortable proper beds, access to the biggest linked ski area in the Alps.

Superb Property

  • 5 of 5

Following last year's visit we had no hesitation to return in 2014. The accommodation remains in excellent condition with all mod cons provided.

We use the apartment as a base to ski Les Arcs everyday, driving to Bourg St Maurice to pick up the funicular although other ski resorts are a similar distance away eg Montchavin.

The apartment is located in a very peaceful location away from the main road. Only the occasional bell ringing from the church breaks the silence. Whilst the other apartments are occupied we never heard any noise from them throughout our stay.

The apartment block has its own car park and is reached via a well lit staircase. Entering the apartment there is a downstairs toilet and a large studio with a modern kitchen , dining area and sitting area. The dining area has a large table which can sit 6. The sitting area is also suitably sized although you will be fighting for the red leather recliners (2 of them). Tv, DVD and playstation are supplied with a large collection of video games, dvd's and books available for use during the stay. The bedrooms are located up a spiral staircase. Both these are en-suite again having modern facilities. One of the rooms is a double with the other a twin. Beds are very comfortable and linen that was provided was clean and fresh. Rooms have underfloor heating plus radiators although the quilts are excellent ensuring you will not feel the cold. There is also a second toilet upstairs located between both bedrooms.

Prior to our departure from England communication was excellent and directions provided accurate. Journey time from Grenoble airport was just under 2 hours and was very easy.

Fantastic Stay

  • 5 of 5

Just a quick note to thank you for sharing your accommodation with us last week. The information you supplied to find the accommodation was perfect and it was easily found.

Your accommodation was exactly as per your photos. To be honest it was better than described and I can honestly say that it was the best accommodation we have ever used within the les arcs region. The kitchen area was ideal and it was easy to prepare full meals (no takeways were needed during the week). The living area was spacious and the chairs were very comfortable after a full days skiing. the DVD's in the accommodation would cater for all ages. Unfortunately we are all hooked on 'The Wire' now after watching part of the boxed set!!!. The linen and towels you supplied were spotless (and smelt clean and fresh) and the beds were very comfortable. Bathrooms were very modern, clean and finished to a high standard, like the rest of the apartment.

The week was interesting. In all the years we have been to les arcs we have never experienced the amount of snow that fell last week. It peaked on Wednesday when we had to dump the car in the middle of Landry and walk to the accommodation (no chains with the hire car). We just got to the edge of the village when we had to turn back (ironically at the sign where it says chains are needed!!!). Thursday morning all the roads were back to normal including the road up to the accommodation. The person who clears this road deserves a medal. Friday however was possibly the best days skiing/boarding we have ever experienced. It certainly made up for the previous days of constant snowing and poor visibility in arc1600 although 1800 and 2000 weren't too bad in comparison.

The journey back to Grenoble went without incident but I am not sure this airport is better chambery. We thought we would try it for a change as chambery is so bad but after waiting in the queue to check in for 1 1/4 hours we are not convinced so it’s back to chambery for us next year.

séjour ski en famille avec 3 enfants

  • 4 of 5

  • 4 of 5

Located in the pretty village of Landry ideally situated 10km along the valley from the busy town of Bourg St Maurice where the funicular takes you swiftly up to the vast Les Arcs Paradiski area. Landry is positioned at the foot of road to Plan Peisey and is also only a 10 minute drive to Montchavin Les Coches where you can directly access the La Plagne ski area. A day trip will take the skier to Val D'Isere Tignes, or Courcheval and the Three Valleys. This makes Landry a perfect location for all standards and styles of skiers and snowboarders.

Summer activities include rafting, parapenting, climbing, walking, cycling (road and mountain) and swimming at the lakeside beach, or the outdoor pools. You can take a drive over the beautiful Petite St Bernard pass and spend the day in Italy.

Landry has its own shop, restaurant and bar whilst Bourg St Maurice provided a variety of restaurants, shops and equipment hire, all more reasonably priced that than in the mountain resorts.

Ski: Within a ten minute drive you gain access to the vast Paradiski area. With the construction 4 years ago of the largest cable car in Europe, the ski areas of La Plagne and Les Arcs are now linked. Various options for lift passes are available. A local area Montchavin pass is sufficient for a beginner. A La Plagne or Les Arcs pass alone will suffice for most with the option of adding a day to explore across the whole Paradiski area. Or for the total enthusiast a full Paradiski is a must.

The options for accessing the skiing are varied. Drive along the valley to Bourg and catch the funicular, drive up the road to Plan Peisey and join the lift system there. Or, as we prefer, drive the 10 minutes to pretty Montchavin, take the bubble or the chair from there and at the end of the day stop in one of the friendly bars for apres ski beer.

If this is not enough skiing for you, a day trip and an add-on cost to the lift pass will allow skiing at Val d'isere/Tignes or The Three Valleys.
