About Arthur Haver
Hi. My name is Art. I'm 67 yrs old. I have owned my own flower shop for the past 33 years and prior to that I was a cook and a bartender. My passion is my dog Sierra-4th in a line of Westies . I love the area I live in and am constantly amazed at how much there is to see and do. I was born and raised in Olivebridge-in fact the house I have was built by my parents by themselves. My family has owned the same property for over one hundred years. Work takes quite a bit of my time and I love that too. It is enjoyable to see how much people love flowers and the designs I make. When I get a chance I go to the theatre. Musicals are what I enjoy most. Favorite show? Well two actually: Wicked and High Spirits. If you should rent my home please feel free to ask me to do anything that will make your stay more enjoyable. Until then. Art
Arthur Haver purchased this House in 1957
Why Arthur Haver chose Town of Olive
My parents built this house-mostly by themselves but with some help from my uncles. This is interesting because my father was blind and yet he and mom manage to do it. This has been my home most of my life.
What makes this House unique
Well, Greta Garbo always wanted to be alone. She would of loved it here. It is quiet and relaxing with trails into the mountains for hiking and also a pool for swimming

All Our Needs--And More--Thoughtfully Anticipated and Provided For
This is a modest-sized house furnished like a home. The open living-dining-kitchen area has a great feel; the porch has the fireplace and is a great cozy place for reading. Art made sure he was in touch and that we had everything we needed. It's a lovely part of upstate New York, and the house has plenty of space around it for privacy and dog excursions (we had two dogs, and the house was very dog friendly). We enjoyed our weekend.
As nice as the house is (it is nice) the best part about our stay was Art. He is such a responsive and generous host. His warm welcome through his gestures (crackers, etc) and graciousness permeate the experience. The house is set up very nicely so all you need to bring are your clothes. We enjoyed our stay and would return if we are in the area again.
This was our second summer vacation at Art's house and it is now becoming somewhat of a tradition for our family (me, my husband and our dog). The house is clean, cozy and secluded. Art allows his guests great privacy, yet help is only a phone call away. The pool is nice and you can grill while enjoying the beautiful property and it has a special fenced in area for the dog to play in safety (which was what drew me to this rental to begin with). I can't say enough good things about both the house and it's owner and Art if you are reading this, all I can say is see you next summer!
Art was wonderful in answering any questions. The house was well stocked! The pool was marvelous! We had a great time! The dog run came in handy. So peaceful and quiet you will enjoy!!!
Nice location but lacks tidiness
Very secluded, beautiful setting, and Art left us bagels, cream cheese, crackers and cheese. The price was great, but...
There's a significant cleaning fee, which made me think it was cleaned by a 3rd party, but it wasn't cleaned by a service prior to our arrival. We traveled with our 4 month old and felt uncomfortable having him try out his crawling skills on the floors (I know that the listing mentions that the house is inappropriate for children, but I didn't think it was because of this). There was lots of dust and fur on and under furniture as well as in all corners of the house (If you have dust allergies, stay away!). The bathroom smelled like it was the location for wee wee pad training, and there was a musty smell in the bedrooms. The beds were so uncomfortable that we had planned to cut our stay short by a few days. We mentioned all of this to Art and he said he cleaned the place to his standards and left it at that.
In any case, I got sick during my stay and we had to cancel our plans to leave early. After telling Art that we were not leaving early after all, he told us that check out time was 12pm instead of the 3pm-6pm listed on HomeAway.
After reading the other reviews, I feel like we may have just gotten different treatment for some reason, especially because of the early check-out time.
July 13th guest is incorrect on several points.
First, check out is 12 not 3.
Secondly there was not dust nor dirt under furniture or in corners. It seems that the guest felt a cleaning fee is exorbitant and felt it should have been a "sterile environment". The cleaning fee covers all the laundry-approximately 7 loads per guest stay and washing and vacuuming of floors, etc. This guest must have felt that he should get his money's worth because he made the house filthy, going so far as to leave hair in the refrigerator, smears of some kind of oil on glass furniture and counter tops and more things I haven't the time or interest in going into.
When I returned home all of the lights were left on and I found a very dangerous situation in one of the bedrooms. A table lamp had been placed on the floor next to the bed and bed coverings with a pot cover on top of the shade. The lamp was lit generating heat which caused the shade to melt and material to singe . The next step was for the material to burst into flames and then easily jump to the bed, walls etc. In other words my house could have easily burned down.
The experience with these particular guests was unsettling and upsetting to the point where I had to consider if wish to continue to rent my home out.
As an aside, the original booking was for two adults and one baby, while in actuality there were four adults, a baby and dog.
Peace and quiet
Privacy, peace and quiet. If that's what you want this is it. Beautiful home, large, cheerful, inviting, and very comfortable. The private pool is great. We didn't hear or see another person unless we drove to the market. Perfect escape from NYC.
