Well what can I say? This is the most beautiful and comfortable cottage we have ever stayed in, in the most peaceful and tranquil of settings, even though the beach is only a short 10 minutes walk away.
Our first day was spent mainly exploring the house and surrounding area and the short drive into East Wittering to check out the local shops and picked up a few supplies. We were surprised there were so many handy shops within a small area, everything you could need. A Tesco and Co-Op for most food bits, plus a butcher (in the hope of a bbq later in the week). A very nice fish and chip shop which we knew would come in handy, plus cash machines and pharmacy if needed. As well as the usual gift shops that you'd expect to find by the sea.
Our hope of the bbq came the very next day with the sun shining all day, we knew this would be a day for staying to enjoy the lovely pool and it didn't disappoint at all. It was just perfect having a nice secluded pool all to ourselves and the actual pool shaded enough by trees not to keep getting out to reapply sun screen, although once on the sunbed, it was a real suntrap area and had to make sure we were topped up with cream.
We had 'typical' British weather in the fact that our first Monday was a bank holiday and so it poured of rain but never mind.... My little boy found what he called 'the gentlemen's club'.... A pool table and darts board. He and my dad spent the best part of the day in there, although he did let my mum and myself in occasionally!!
The rest of the week was spent enjoying all the local area and on one day got a bus from the end of the lane, into Chichester and enjoyed the day there and got the bus back, which handily stopped right outside the pub at the end of the lane, where we had a lovely meal to finish the day.
I think this is one of the nicest holidays we have had and although we were busy doing something all of the time, it felt so restful too.
We will definitely be booking up again and you have EVERYTHING you need for a great holiday!
We have stayed at Farthings several times - a recommendation in itself. We love the area which is a real "get away from it all", and enjoy long walks on the beach or in the surrounding countryside followed by a cream tea at the nearly cafe or barbecued sausages from the local butcher. The property is generally well maintained and clean and having a private pool and garden is a great plus.
We stayed at Farthings over a bank holiday weekend and found it extremely comfortable and welcoming. The sheltered garden helped us make the most of the sunshine, even on windy days and the pool was a huge hit with our children.
We loved the beach, which is probably the cleanest sandy beach in Britain ( in our experience) and is easily reached on foot. Local villages were also charming and the pubs in Itchenor and Bosham can both be highly recommended for their food.
The cottage is very well equipped and was beautifully clean when we arrived. We would have liked a bit more working space in the kitchen for cooking but this was no impediment to us having a very successful barbecue with family who live in the area.
We can recommend the cottage very highly indeed and hope to rent it again ourselves. Although not a huge distance from London it feels a very tranquil and restful place, and we felt well rested after out stay there.
We've rented Farthings again and again - it's location near to England's best sandy beach is perfect for families, couples and groups of friends on a weekend away - particularly as it's so close to London.
The accommodation suits us (a group of couples/singles in our early 30s, and often with a baby in tow) as the house is equipped for a large number of guests - enough crockery and cutlery and a large range cooker. The only issue is sometimes with hot water, but that might be our fault! On our last trip, we realised the bbq was missing, and over the course of 6 hours we had permission to replace it, ensuring we had a fabulous weekend - we were really grateful for the prompt response of the owner.
There is Sky TV for the occasional rugby match but otherwise it's cycling trips to the Marina, visits to the pubs in Itchenor or visits to nearby Chichester, which is my favourite get-away town in England with loads on, including markets, theatre, great shopping (including independent boutiques). When its beautiful outside, we're at the beach or play croquet in the garden, bbq'ing the most amazing sausages from the local butcher; and when miserable, we light the real fire with the firewood provided, get a roast going in the oven, and play boardgames before sitting down at the dining table.
You can tell I like to pretend it's really my very own second home!
We enjoyed a splendid week at Farthings. The cottage really felt like a home for our stay, comfortable and well equipped.
The location is very quiet with a network of lovely footpaths to enjoy and of course one of the best beaches just a short walk away. There are shops at East Wittering and Chichester is very close-by.
We put the garden and pool to good use even in October and both are kept in pristine condition. We also had a family get together which was very successful with many compliments about the cottage.
If you need to connect a mac to the WiFi you may have difficulties but there is a laptop provided which we found useful. Also our two year old set off the alarm one day which was funny 'afterwards!' so be careful to keep little fingers away from the panic buttons.
Overall we had a really great time would love to go back and have no hesitation to recommend this beautiful cottage.
We rented the house with 3 young children and had a wonderful time.
House and pool fantastic. Although pool not completely fence so need to be careful with non swimmers. House very comfortable and well equipped but might want to take plastic wear for young children. Would definately rent again.
The Witterings area local attractions include: Surfing, Diving, Fishing, Sailing, Boat Trips and Horse Riding, plus of course the lovely beaches, Butterfly Gardens and endless walks - our local villages cater for almost everything. The village of West Wittering has two convenience/souvenir stores, butchers, beach ware outlet, restaurant and local bar, which serves food. Together with a country club which offers holiday membership. The cathedral city of Chichester is only a short drive or bus journey away. Chichester has many attractions whether you fancy a trip to the theater, a museum visit, a day at the races, a cruise on the canal, a visit to the planetarium or just a browse round the shops.
