Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday barn in Waverley

Sleeps 6/7 in 3 double rooms with en-suites, in Surrey village of Ewhurst

The barn is a country-lovers dream, where old oak timbers mix sympathetically with green oak to form a fantastic living space with a massive inglenook fireplace and where the galleried landing looks down on the comfy settees near a friendly wood burner and next to a spacious dining area and newly fitted oak kitchen.

There are three beautiful double bedrooms with full en-suite facilities. One with bath and two with shower. There is an additional folding guest bed or cot for children.

Step outside onto your barn patio where you are surrounded by open fields and views complemented by the newly restored farm buildings, including a picturesque stable block with clock tower.

A 3 minute stroll takes you into Ewhurst village where you will find pubs serving food, shops & village sports facilities. The old parish church adds to the feeling of history you sense when visiting. Ewhurst also has a cricket club and Hurtwood Country Polo Club. Guildford, Cranleigh & pictureque Shere are nearby.

Suitability:

Barn in Ewhurst

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing place! So much love has been put into every detail of the decor, every bit as good as or better than a 5 star hotel.

Stunning location with plenty of walks in the beautiful surrounding area. Situated so close to London this is an excellent alternative to staying in the city.

The owners extended such hospitality making every effort to make us feel welcome and at home. This really was a home away from home. We certainly intend to return. Highly recommended!

Owner's Response: Amanda and Mark really enjoyed the stunning country setting around the barn. They found it easy getting to London and Guildford. They were perfect tenants and together with their parents, took maximum advantage of the pubs and restaurants that we were able to recommend. The Surrey Hills are full of beautiful walks and local places to visit, including Dorking where you can lose yourself in the antique shops, or step into Denbies Winery where you will find that English wines can be well worth the time to taste. Mark and amanda took full advantage of the huge lounge and our newly fitted kitchen, and with the enourmous bi-fold doors they were able to extend the kitchen lounge onto the patio. In short, they were great to have in the property, and we look forward to welcoming them back.

Beautiful, high-spec barn conversion

  • 5 of 5

As a group of 7 friends we stayed in the barn conversion for a bank holiday weekend. In advance and on arrival, Ian was very hospitable and helpful. He offered to help receive an online grocery delivery when I thought I would be late, and gave me a detailed tour of the barn on arrival. The barn itself has been immaculately restored, to high spec throughout. It is very thoughtfully and generously equipped, including with cooking ingredients and a cupboard of kids' books/games. Ian also leant us his BBQ to enjoy the garden (including blackberry picking!). The large outdoor area feels very secluded despite the property's close proximity to Ewhurst village. It felt like a great rural retreat. Thoroughly recommended.

Owner's Response: Dear Fleur, Many thanks for your review on your stay in our refurbished period barn. Fleur came to stay with six friends, and they really took advantage of the huge lawn and meadow available to the barn. They used the badminton net for tennis, badminton and I think I saw them playing volleyball as well. They loved the property which has lots of space in the open plan kitchen/lounge/dining area, and again they made good use of the facilities including the cosy log burner in the inglenook fireplace. They also went for walks on the farm and it was clear they were having great fun. Great group of people. We hope we will see you back again. Best Wishes, Ian

Stunning property and a wonderful host

  • 5 of 5

We arrived early on Tuesday morning and woke Ian from his bed. Despite the early hour Ian was nothing but gracious and charming, settling us in to a beautifully restored barn with exposed beams, a fully equipped kitchen, charming bedrooms and a truly stunning garden/field that backs onto the woods. Many a morning we have awoken to deer or foxes scurrying across the fields which, coming from Singapore was a delight for us all. Whenever we have previously returned to the UK we have stayed in lesser accommodation and have subsequently had to travel far and wide to see friends and family. This time everyone came here because the place is so charming. Ian is the perfect host, even giving us his bbq when occasion required. We will certainly be coming back. Thank you Ian

Owner's Response: Paul and Maree and their children were delighted with the barn from the moment they arrived. They took full advantage of the generous reception space that the barn offers, and entertained lots of friends using the outside space to play games with friends and family. They are a great family and I hope they will return whenever it suits them. Thanks Paul and Maree.

Beautiful house in idyllic surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We are a local family that rented the Barn for 2 weeks whilst our house had building work completed, so we knew the area but this still felt like a holiday!

The Barn was beautiful providing all the comforts we could possibly need and Ian Milla was the perfect host - on hand if we needed anything but giving us the space to enjoy his beautiful farm.

Our only regret is that our dogs couldn't join us, but we totally understand that Ian has to think of future guests, so not an issue at all.

Overall we would recommend this property to anyone and everyone and have already been singing it's praises to all our friends!

We just wish it was further from home so that we could have a excuse to use it as a holiday home every year!

Many many thanks Ian

Nicola

Amazing property, beautiful location!

  • 5 of 5

We had to rent the house for 2 weeks whilst having building works at home. We needed somewhere local to our own home and this was perfect. Location is so peaceful and great for kids to have freedom to run around in safety and lots of wildlife to see. The barn is beautiful and we didn't want to leave. Ian as host was so accommodating, helpful and supportive during our stay and we could not have asked for more from him.

We would stay at the barn again at the drop of a hat, and it's just a pity that it is on our doorstep because we'd love to spend a proper holiday here or Christmas when we could take advantage of the log burning stove!

We would recommend this to anyone and everyone.

Many thanks

Nicola

The Barn - a Great Find

  • 5 of 5

Having driven along the unusual and exciting road from Shere to Ewhurst, we wondered what to expect on arrival at The Barn. We were not disappointed! This superb barn conversion was everything that we had expected to share with our daughter, son-in-law and three young grandchildren who had just flown in from Sydney. We had a warm welcome from Ian Mills, who was very obliging when we asked for any assistance, but otherwise remained unobtrusive. All equipment from furnishings to appliances was of good quality and very clean and comfortable. It was exciting for the children to find quite a number of toys in various cupboards, as well as having lots of room to play outdoors, not to mention the wonderful recently upgraded play park at the end of the driveway. Instead of kangaroos or wallabies, the children loved seeing the deer in the vicinity of the house! The Barn’s geographic position was ideal for friends and family to visit, or for us to meet with them. Access to London by train, Legoland, golf courses, etc. are all within reasonable reach, and the local countryside, pubs and coffee shops were enjoyed by all of us. Grandma was given the thumbs up for a great find and we all hope that we might have reason to stay at Thornhurst Brook Farm again in the future. Christmas here would be magic!

Owner's Response: Liz and family stayed in our period barn conversion for 10 nights, and made really good use of their time in the Surrey Hills. They researched the area carefully and visited some of the places we suggested. The more they discovered in the area, the more they liked it. We have a felling that they will be back. Thanks Liz for the amazing review. We hope to see you again. You are right, the Barn at Thornhurst Brook Farm is a brilliant place to spend Christmas. Thanks, Ian

Thornhurst Brook Farm is situated in the pretty village of Ewhurst in the Surrey Hills, a perfect base to enjoy the labyrinth of country walks and bridleways. If you like trekking, mountain biking or riding, you will be spoiled for choice. You will also find tennis, a children's playground and a bowling green just a short stroll from your accommodation, or why not time your visit to coincide with a polo match at the Hurtwood Park Polo Club.

England's largest vineyard, Denbies, offers a wine tasting tour and leisurely lunch at Dorking, where you will also find an array of antique shops, pretty boutiques and coffee shops.

Why not visit picture-postcard Shere where you can drop back in time and see how our villages used to be. You will find a blacksmiths, teashop, pubs, restaurants, museum and a much filmed and photographed church.

When you stay at Thornhurst Brook Farm, you are in a very rural country location, but just a short stroll from the village amenities, and you are very close to Guildford.

Other Activities: Theatre, Cinemas and winetasting at Denbies Winery are all nearby.
