Welcome to Xanadu West! It is an oceanfront duplex with amazing views and is great for families especially with young kids.
The duplex sits taller and closer to the ocean than its neighbors which makes for amazing views! One can see all the way from Indian Beach to the Point from the top deck. We've discovered that by being closer to the ocean (while not giving up good beach depth) life with kids and especially little ones is just much easier! You can see your kids easily from the deck if you'd like to have a drink or you just have to take a few steps and you are right on the beach with them. You don't have to put up a big umbrella or pack food or drinks as you are so close to the shaded decks and house. There is a full outdoor shower with hot and cold water outside for cleaning off all of the sand that seems to get everywhere!
During the spring of 2013, Xanadu West underwent a complete renovation including a completely new kitchen, new flooring throughout, fresh painting throughout, new furnishings, and new bathrooms. In 2014, we replaced all mattresses with new ones for improved sleep! In 2015, we put in an enclosed outdoor shower with hot and cold water as well as replaced the entire HVAC units for improved comfort in the house. In spring of 2016 we replaced the Oceanfront Deck and doubled the size of the upper deck that comes off of the living area creating an amazing area to gather with beautiful views.
The duplex has a reverse floorplan with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on the first floor. All 3 bedrooms have ocean views with two of them have full oceanfront views thru large double sliding glass doors. The first of the oceanfront bedrooms has queen size bed and an attached bathroom. The other oceanfront bedroom has one queen bed along with a twin/trundle to allow for a maximum of 4 people in that room. The third bedroom on first floor has 2 sets of bunk beds allowing 4 people to sleep in that room as well.
You can hear the roar of the surf when you fall asleep and then welcome it in the morning when you are woken up by little feet. Enjoy just opening the glass door and stepping out on the lower deck for a wonderful view of the ocean.
The second floor includes the living room, kitchen, dining room and a second master bedroom and bathroom. The second floor has a vaulted ceiling with multiple large windows including a large bay window to provide a wonderful amount of natural light into the house. Just step out onto the upper deck and you will have one of the most amazing views of Emerald Isle.
The second floor master has a king size bed and boasts both an ocean view and a sound view out of its two windows.
Outside, there are two different decks with which to enjoy the ocean. The lower deck resides just outside of the first floor oceanfront rooms described earlier. This deck is completely shaded and is equipped with four adirondack chairs, foot rests, and side tables which makes for a great place to sit and watch the surf, read a book, have a drink and just enjoy the beach. The top deck, which has doubled in size, has a large dining table that seats up to 10 people which makes for a great place to eat a meal. There is another gathering space with a bench and two chairs as well as some very comfortable rocking chairs to help enjoy the fabulous view of Emerald Isle.
As a family of 6 with 4 young kids, we are keenly aware of just how much 'stuff' one must bring to the beach. We can help free up some space by providing a Pack-n-Play, Bouncy Seat, Baby Swing, and High Chair/Booster that are already at Xanadu West.
The kitchen is well equipped with an electric stove, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee maker, Ice tea maker, deep fryer, slow cooker, blender, and large griddle. There is a nice dvd/video library including movies for both kids and adults for afternoon or evening viewing. There are games and puzzles as well for those in need of a break from the sun. Also, a charcoal grill is ready to help make great family meals. Linens including towels are provided free of charge during June, July and August. We can arrange linens/towels at guest request in other seasons at our cost which recently has been about $125 per stay.
For those that want to explore the island, there are plenty of activities away from the beach for everyone in your group. For the active: bicycling (rentals available on island), golf, kayak and boat rentals, mini-golf, amusement park, horseback riding, volleyball, water park, driving range, skating, off-shore fishing, kite-flying. For the sightseer and shopper: There is Morehead City, Beaufort waterfront, Swansboro waterfront shops and antiques, Emerald Isle shops, North Carolina Aquarium and more.
We hope you give us a try at Xanadu West!

My wife and I took a chance on purchasing Xanadu West to have a place for family memories to be made for years to come. We have 4 young daughters-twins that are 9, a 7 year old, and a 4 year old. We both have lived in North Carolina since 1998 and more specifically Raleigh since 2003. We love going to the beach but both of us work so we have limited time to use the house. Therefore, we decided to rent Xandu West and hopefully create a place where you and your family can come and enjoy a nice home away from home with incredible views and great weather.
Matthew Alvarez purchased this house in 2012
Our family has been coming to Emerald Isle for many years both for reunions and just weekend getaways. It is a quiet, family oriented beach with soft sand for little feet and waves that are just right for all ages. There is plenty to do if you are tired of sitting on the sand (which doesn't happen too often).
The ocean view from Xanadu West is Amazing!!! The deck is higher and the house sits closer to the beach than any other house nearby which means you get some of the best views of Emerald Isle. One can see the entire length of the beach from the east end all the way to the point.
We are keenly aware of beach trips with little ones which is another reason we chose to purchase Xanadu West. Xanadu West is great for families with young kids since the deck sits so much closer to beach, you can really see your kids playing easily as you sit and have a drink from the deck or if you need to be close to the house to hear an afternoon napper inside.
If you like being on the beach and having full oceanfront views from the Kitchen, dining and living space and two bedrooms, than this is the place for you! The location is closer to Indian Beach than Emerald which allows for a little more "beach privacy" plus you are closer to putt-putt (in season) and the aquarium (which is a must). The kitchen is large and open to the living and dining space. We stayed over Thanksgiving - what a treat to watch the waves while making pecan pie!
Check-in and check-out was seamless and the communication was prompt. Not only do I recommend this home, I would stay again and have already been looking at some summer dates.
We stayed at Xanadu West in late September. The house couldn't be better. There are lots of amenities with the property (OUTDOOR SHOWER, laundry, kitchen supplies, sand toys...), including a beautiful two-story deck that was perfect for eating outside. We have 2 young children and found the accommodations kid-friendly. The design of the deck also gives some privacy from any guests staying in the other side of the property. The house is huge-- could sleep 3 couples easily with the bonus of putting all the kiddos in the bunk bed room. Two of the downstairs bedrooms have ocean views in addition to the upstairs living space. Both my husband and I needed to do some work while on vacation, and the internet was fast enough to support telecommunication and file downloads.
The location was great. It's located about halfway between the start of emerald isle and morehead city. Grocery stores and restaurants are not far off in either direction.
I'm not sure how much of a discounted rate is running by late September compared to the height of the summer, but we would absolutely stay at this house again.
We had a great time at the xanadu west...the house was very nice and we enjoyed the home and ocean veiw.. It was absolutely beautiful. The only things was the shower in the lower floor bed room wasnt working very well and there was a bad smell coming up the drain , but the owner has been notified and im sure they will adress it. They are wonderfully nice and kind people to work with.I wld completely recomend this house for your vacation.
have stayed here 3 times. well equipped and furnished, great for families, beautiful views, central emerald isle. very clean. owner provides excellent customer service!
This was our second stay at Xanadu West. We had a very nice week there. Lots of good local restaurants. Highly recommend going over to Beaufort and riding the ferry to Shackelford Island if you enjoy shelling. I have never seen so many welks in one place. Watched Sea Turtles hatch on the beach and with a little help from the Emerald Isle Sea Turtle Pareil make it to the water. Very nice house would highly recommend to anyone looking for a place at the beach. The new decks are great!!
The house was as described. It was clean and many ammentities were provided that made packing a lot easier! The beach in front of the house was close and not busy at all. We were skeptical of a duplex due to possible noise, but you never knew anyone was there. The new decks offer amazing sights all day and night long. We definitely recommend this place. It was our first trip to Emerald Isle. My family really enjoyed themselves there! The best thing we did while there was taking a trip to the aquarium at Pine Knolls. Definitely worth it to go see it. Also, Fort Macon was neat to see, but the fort itself closes at 5:30 where the state park is open until 8. We arrived early evening and only had a short time to explore the fort. That was our mistake for overlooking the details.
