Overview

About the property

Stunning 4 dbl b/m villa, 20 mins from Almunecar, Marina del Este and beaches

Our amazing Moroccan style country home is partly a converted round water deposito. It is mainly spread over one split floor level and has a lovely warm rustic charm - very relaxing and comfortable. It really does feel like a home and not a rental property - because it is one! Four ethnic doorways lead to the numerous terraces; some are huge and some totally private with 2 bbq areas - one gas and the other coal. The villa is set within a huge walled private terrace with tiled swimming pool overlooking the mountains and lush valley of the Rio Seco in Costa Tropical. There is a small sea view too! We enjoy all day sun with stunning sunsets. 200m of accommodation leads to the pool and terraces. 4 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms + outside shower, open plan farmhouse dining/kitchen area with luxury sofa's, trendy Kasbah. Surrounded by flowers and fruit trees - tarmac and concrete road to the door (4x4 not necessary) but long windy drive with drop edges. This is our rural 'retreat' and will provide you with all your creature comforts incl tv, wfi, a/c, hot water, bedding, towels, library of books, fridge, freezer,, bread maker, washing machine, dryer and above all privacy, total peace and relaxation without isolation. Almunecar, Nerja, Salobrena, Motril, Granada and the Sierra Nevada are all easily reached as are golf, water sports and sailing .

Historical information of Almunecar: Called EX by its first settlers, the Phoenicians, Almunecar later became known as Firmum lulium Sexi during the Roman period when salted fish and the much in demand 'garum' were exported all over the Empire. The phoenician-punic period has left the Necroplis Laurita and the Puente de Noy, while from the Roman Sexi period there are monuments like the impressive Aqueduct, the Torre del Monje and Albina columbaria, the Salazones factory and the Cueva de siete palacios museum, which houses the Archaeological museum. However it was without a doubt the Arabs who left a mark impossible to rub out. Within the narrow streets of the historical quarters, with their white washed houses, the andalusi essence can still be breathed. These inhabitants were witness to Abd al Rahman 1, the founder of the Omeyan Emirate, who came ashore in the year 755.

Granada coastline under attack: The Granada coastline is dotted with fortresses, castles and watchtowers which bear witness to the history of these lands. Its border location of the Nasrid kingdom of Granada, in addition to the proximity of North Africa made it very vulnerable to attack. San Miguel castle overlooks the town and forms part of the legacy which over 700 years of Moorish occupation has provided. The Christians built the church Iglesia de la Encarnacion, the fountain in the Calle Real, the Najarra Palace and the sculptures like the Abderraman 1 statue (the monument dedicated to the Phoenicians) and the Arch in honour of Blas Infante, the father of Andalusia. Moslems in the Middle Ages and Christians from the 16th Century onwards had to reinforce the coastline's system of defence due to a constant onslaught of attacks by pirates, corsairs and robbers who impoverished the local population. The Turkish squadron was defeated at the battle of Lepanto, 1571 and the Moors were expelled from Granada in 1492

Cultural Almunecar: Birthplace to playwrights and a point of inspiration to artists Almunecar also possesses a special musical link. In fact it is not possible to talk about this town without referring to the wordly renowned Certamen Internacional de Guitarra Clasica Andres Segovia (classical guitar contest) named after the great composer lived out his last years in La Herradura on the Costa Tropical. The famous annual Jazz festival brings together the best blues, jazz and bossanova stars like Tete montoliu, joyce, Antonio Hart, Monty Warters, Archie Shepp and Brad Meldham. Arts and literature are ever present and include the literary competition Cartas de amor y desamor held every February without fail - dedicated to this universal theme, that is love!

About Harriet Hayes

We lovingly renovated an old water deposit over a period of years into a fabulous quirky home where we lived with our young family who went to the local international school. In 2007 we set sail with the Blue Water Rally from Gibralter and sailed as far as Malaysia. We now let out our home full time - short term in the summer months and longer term during the winter but the main attribute is - it feels like a home - because it is one! If you are looking for a winter retreat between October and end of March at a very reasonable rental in return to look after the house please let us know.

Harriet Hayes purchased this villa in 2002

Why Harriet Hayes chose Almuñécar

This property is unique - it was totally built by us as our home and for this reason it has natural 'warmth' and a great ambiance. It can accommodate 10 people (4 double bedrooms with extra mattresses) but 2 guests often come on their own without feeling overwhelmed. It has great flexibility - young and old - families and couples - there is something for everyone.

What makes this villa unique

A/C independent hot and cold in each room - fabulous clean sparkling swimmng pool (April - end September) complimentary wifi - some UK TV - fantastic views - even a small sea view - mountain walks - many species of birds - fruit trees in abundance including mango, avocado, lemons, almonds and figs - many terraces and nooks and crannies - a very generous 'welcome pack' on arrival - easy distance from Granada, Malaga and Marbella - 30 minutes from Marina del Este, sailing and many water sports.

Great Place

  • 5 of 5

Spacious luxury property with a friendly cat. Everthing was prepared for us. Even the fridge was filled, so we came over the first days without having to go shopping right away.

We want to come back.

An amazing cosy house, with incredible views. 5/5

  • 5 of 5

My family had a great holiday in this amazing house, the reviews are all correct on how cosy this place feels. The views are breath taking and the pictures do not do it justice. The pool is a great size, what a joy to swim and look at the mountains. Lots of space for all the family, with a great BBQ to cook outside. Lots of outside eating areas. I would recommend to any one. Will certainly book again.

This is not a house, it is a home!

  • 5 of 5

El Corbertizo is not just a house, it’s a home! The owners built it with love and you can really feel that. It’s well equipped and maintained, neat and very cozy. We stayed here for a week with family and friends (8 people from 13 to 71 years old) and we all had a great time. You can dive into to the lovely, large pool, have family meals outside and enjoy the amazing views. The road to the house is indeed a bit scary, but after going up and down a few times, you’re getting used to it. We even enjoyed our last drives! Don’t forget to visit the waterfalls in Otivar. That’s a wonderful experience. You’ll find the directions in the folder in the house

Dear Harriet and Paul, thank you for sharing your amazing home with us.

Los Banuelos is a 20 minute breathtakingly beautiful drive into the hills and mountains behind Almunecar town where there is truly something for everyone - restaurants, shops, a picturesque marina, sailing and watersports, hang gliding, golf, horse riding, mountain biking, climbing, trekking, a bird park and much more. Many historical sites, art galleries, local artisans' exhibits and cultural venues including a Roman fort, aquaducts, Phonecian fish farms, caves and museums. The Costa Tropical has 19km of coastline and over 20 beaches; some are hidden coves, some designated for naturists, many have plenty of beach side cafes and restaurants with lively tapas bars and night life.
