About Helen Neff

This property was originally purchased in 1980 as a weekend retreat from our hectic lives in the Bay Area. The Guest House was built in 1991.

Helen Neff purchased this cabin in 1980

Why Helen Neff chose Gold Country / High Sierra

We love this area for so many reasons. Our property is secluded and provides a private oasis away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Yet, it is a quick 12 minute drive to Nevada City or a 15 minute drive to Grass Valley for fun shopping, great dining, live theater, wonderful musical performances, and a first-class community food coop with healthy offerings – to supplement what is not available at the summer farmer’s markets!

We are honored to be able to share the joys of this area with our guests.

Wonderful Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Quiet, private property. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet. Sadly we had to leave early due to a work issue, but Helen the owner, was super nice and even offered a credit on a future visit.

Peaceful and cozy...

  • 5 of 5

This guest house was perfect for me and my daughters. The owner provided great information and made us feel very welcome. The property is lovely. There is a beautiful pond right in front of the guest house with a perfect bench for morning meditation. It's also a close drive to lovely swimming in the Yuba River.

Great cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

Helen has a terrific property. My wife and I stayed for 3 nights. Very cute unit, plenty big enough for two people. Nice layout, well stocked and extremely functional. Very clean and in excellent condition. Nice outdoor deck with BBQ. There's a 2-3 person Bikram yoga studio located in a room right under the deck which Helen and guests can use for private sessions. We didn't partake this time but will do so during our next stay.

Oh and did I say the location is quiet and peaceful? Yes to both.

Helen's instructions and communications were thoughtful and very timely. I give this unit and the owner 5 Stars.

Just one word of caution...the cottage is located about a 10 minute drive up Bloomfield from Nevada City. It's an easy drive and was totally OK for us, but if you are someone who needs to be within "walking distance" of town then this might not be the right location for you. We will definitely be back.

A very welcome retreat, and a gracious host!

  • 5 of 5

We've just returned from a wonderful stay at this property. The hosts were very gracious and thoughtful, the instructions on arrival were clear, and helpful notes were left to get us started. Overall, just an excellent experience. I would highly recommend this property if you're in the area.

Just Great!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 weeks at this quiet, peaceful setting in the incredible forest just outside Nevada City. Helen and Bill were great hosts and could not have been more accommodating...providing a clean, spacious, well appointed guest house for my husband, me and at times our grown kids and grandkids. Everyone felt so welcomed and comfortable. The large deck extending into the trees was wonderful for relaxing and eating--along with the trails for hiking--made our stay very enjoyable. Since everyone in our family loves to cook, the fully equipped kitchen was great! Helen seemed to anticipate our every need as guest. We loved staying there. We definitely recommend this lovely place.
