Overview

About the property

We bought and completely renovated this guest house in 2012. We fell in love with the location and hope you enjoy it as much as we do! The property is amazing! To reach the house, you drive one mile through the woods via the former Hucklebush Rail Line that operated between the 1870's and 1940's-- bringing crops from surrounding farms to market. The guest house is perched on a hill in the woods above a creek that flows below one of the only remaining rail trestles. It's history and it's picturesque! The creek joins one of the best trout rivers in the Hudson Valley-- the Roeliff Jansen Kill (Roe Jan)-- at the northwest corner of the property. You can relax by the Roe Jan, go trout fishing, or go tubing in summer.

...Or enjoy being in the house. We’ve done it up with designer furniture and great details. All the basics are provided (linens, towels, etc) and the kitchen is well-equipped. Relax in the hot tub or seating area behind the house while listening to the creek below. Enjoy dinner or a bottle of wine outside in spring, summer, and fall. Or... enjoy the great restaurants, antiquing, and outdoor activities in the area. For the restless-- there is a full size air hockey table in the two car garage on the other side of the property.

The house is designed to be open with large windows overlooking the woods. Feel like you are outside while being in the comfort of a newly renovated and tastefully decorated home.

For an additional fee, a second couple can stay in the detached 200 square foot studio 100 feet from the house. This studio has heat and electric, but no bathroom or running water. Occupants share with those sleeping in the main guest house -- not for the small bladdered!

Quiet, relaxing place in the woods

  • 5 of 5

My husband, dog and I stayed in the cabin to get some relaxation in before I had my baby. I was 35 weeks along at the time. It was a great place to grill out, put my feet up in the hammock, sit in the outdoor hot tub at a mild temp and get some rest. It's extremely quiet at night and there are no disturbances from people. The owners live in the house next door and are incredibly nice and friendly. They are there to answer any questions, but don't intrude on your stay if you are looking for isolation. They provide soap, shampoo, conditioner and towels. The place is modern and super clean. It rained one day we were there, so we got out the pull out couch, read and looked at the trees out the big windows in the living room. There are great towns nearby for dinner (Tivoli, Rhinebeck and Red Hook) if you don't feel like cooking. Definitely recommend staying here if you are a small group looking to get away from NY.

Extremely comfortable, curated decoration

  • 5 of 5

This is our second summer in Red Hook. The house is comfortable, well appointed with an excellent kitchen, air conditioning and a hot tub. Our hosts were nearby in the main house during the weekend and were fun and gracious hosts. We will definitely return.

Awesome experience

  • 5 of 5

The house was great, just like the last time we visited. Location is perfect if you enjoy being a bit isolated from the nearby towns. Eric (the owner) was very welcoming, and offered some good suggestions for places to visit. Would definitely book again.

Private and relaxing Christmas vacation

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I wanted to get away over Christmas and hole up somewhere with books, our cats, and some good food. This was the perfect spot! We live in the city, so loved the ability to sit by huge windows and look out into woods. We do a lot of cooking, which is often difficult in rental properties as you're never sure what tools you'll have to work with. The kitchen here was surprisingly well stocked with appliances and tools! All in all, this was the perfect home and location for what we wanted out of our Christmas.

Wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We went as a group of 4 over Thanksgiving. The house was small, but well equipped for cooking and had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend away. House is very well decorated, clean and comfortable. Hot tub was a fantastic addition. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a weekend in the woods!
