Description

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday home in Red Hook

We bought and completely renovated this guest house in 2012. We fell in love with the location and hope you enjoy it as much as we do! The property is amazing! To reach the house, you drive one mile through the woods via the former Hucklebush Rail Line that operated between the 1870's and 1940's-- bringing crops from surrounding farms to market. The guest house is perched on a hill in the woods above a creek that flows below one of the only remaining rail trestles. It's history and it's picturesque! The creek joins one of the best trout rivers in the Hudson Valley-- the Roeliff Jansen Kill (Roe Jan)-- at the northwest corner of the property. You can relax by the Roe Jan, go trout fishing, or go tubing in summer.

...Or enjoy being in the house. We’ve done it up with designer furniture and great details. All the basics are provided (linens, towels, etc) and the kitchen is well-equipped. Relax in the hot tub or seating area behind the house while listening to the creek below. Enjoy dinner or a bottle of wine outside in spring, summer, and fall. Or... enjoy the great restaurants, antiquing, and outdoor activities in the area. For the restless-- there is a full size air hockey table in the two car garage on the other side of the property.

The house is designed to be open with large windows overlooking the woods. Feel like you are outside while being in the comfort of a newly renovated and tastefully decorated home.

For an additional fee, a second couple can stay in the detached 200 square foot studio 100 feet from the house. This studio has heat and electric, but no bathroom or running water. Occupants share with those sleeping in the main guest house -- not for the small bladdered!

We will come back again and again! Perfect for a short or long getaway. The river is lovely and the views can't be beat. Great food and shops within 30 minutes in Red Hook, Tivoli, and Hudson to name just a few.

Wonderful home!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at guest house on Trout river and had a great time. The house is very well done - beautifully furnished and equipped. It is in a forest near a river and you definitely feel in nature. We didn't meet the owners, who were out of town, but Jackie, who takes care of the house/bookings, was very responsive and helpful. We would definitely recommend.

A perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of four and having the detached studio for a modest additional fee was well worth it! The studio is a lovely little space - furnished very tastefully and comfortably. Our teenage daughters absolutely loved staying in the studio.

The main guest house is absolutely beautiful - tasteful yet functional and comfortable. Out the living room windows (large floor to almost-ceiling) you see the woods and hear the trout stream. What a way to start your day!

The hosts were most gracious and accommodating. We will be returning to this place many more times!

Restful, Quiet Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We are so fortunate to have found this property. It is a perfect getaway from the city. The cabin is situated in the woods which keeps the place cool even on the hottest days. Down the hill is a river on which you can go tubing. If you want to get in the water this summer, but don't want to deal with the beach, this is a great alternative. The owners live close by and are very friendly and accommodating. They have done a fantastic job decorating the place so that it looks elegant and casual. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans and utensils. We will definitely be returning.
