About Kate Frick

Hello! We are David and Kate. We live close by in Frederick, MD along with most of our adult children and grandchildren. We are nature lovers and outdoor adventurers and would love to share our dream cabin with you.

Kate Frick purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Kate Frick chose West Virginia

Sleepy Creek Cabin is a dream come true for us. Something about the mixture of arts, wellness, and natural beauty of Berkeley Springs kept us returning to this historic town. We finally decided we had to have a place of our own. When we first arrived at the cabin, saw the view of the water right from the deck, the privacy of the woods, and the beauty of the vaulted ceilings within, we knew this place was 'the one'. We lovingly renovated the cabin to what we refer to as 'Rustic Luxury'. No where on earth have we felt the peace as at Sleepy Creek Cabin and we hope to pass that on and let others experience the unique serenity this special place has to offer.

What makes this cabin unique

Complete privacy is what you will experience. Sitting on the deck facing the creek you will not see another house or cabin. If you need a break from life in the fast lane, this is it. We love the fact that within 10-15 minutes we can be in town to eat at fine restaurants, tour art galleries, antique shops, or get a massage. Also close by are local parks to boat, fish, hike, run, bike, or ride horses. It truly is the best of all worlds.

Great Solitude--Storms and All!

  • 4 of 5

I really enjoyed getting away for some solitude. I was impressed with how clean and tidy the place was--very inviting and calming and comfortable.

Rained for 14 hours straight the first night I was there. I saw the creek rise several feet and widen about 3 times its normal width. Sleepy Creek was awakened and became a rushing river! Pretty awesome.

Storm knocked out the power during the night. Would be good to have a power outage phone number to call, and a spare flashlight for times like that. Man was it dark during the storm.

FYI: My GPS worked great and I always had a cell signal. (Verizon)

Never could get the Direct TV to come on in the living room, but it worked in the bedroom so I was still able to track with my favorite NBA team in the playoffs. Perhaps user-error?

I left refreshed and refueled after having explored the area, spent some time thinking, praying and reading on the porch. Really enjoyed myself. Thanks for allowing me to rent your place!

Beautiful, secluded cabin by the creek

  • 5 of 5

My husband, best friend, and I spent four amazing days at the cabin. We were able to relax, do a little hiking and enjoy Berkeley Springs, which is only 20 minutes away. The cabin was clean, comfortable, and very welcoming. I didn't get a chance to interact with David, but Katie was so friendly and accommodating that I can't say enough about her. It was very important for us to enjoy peace and quiet, which we did. No one bothered us, but there is a handyman available if there are any issues. He stopped by because we did need something minor and he was very friendly. The creek is beautiful and soothing. We left several cairns behind along the creek bed. Overall, the cabin, inside and out was exactly what we needed.

A couple notes. First, the cabin is deep in the woods. There will be insects. We rent a lot of cabins, so we know when they are sprayed. This one was, but not all bugs are killed by that. My friend has dealt with stink bugs, so she knew that there is a way to dispose of them quickly and easily with a water bottle. It's on YouTube. They weren't that much of an issue when we went. Second, this was not a problem for us because we always bring way more than we need, but the fridge is empty (no condiments) and the only food type item is salt and pepper, so bring whatever you normally use. There is an ice maker in the freezer, so you can fill a cooler before you leave. That's not a complaint, just a heads up for future guests. They have built a fire pit, which is really nice. There was plenty of wood, but bring some newspaper to get it started. The beds were very comfortable and the sheets were extremely soft. There are plates, pots and pans and Tupperware (which many other places do not supply). I suggest bringing some paper plates, we forgot. My husband is 6'1" and he was pleasantly surprised that he didn't have to duck under the shower head as he has to at many places that we stay. The bathroom is really nice and has a grab bar next to the toilet and in the shower. There is no bathtub, but the shower is very large.

We thank Katie and David for having us and will definitely be back!

Comfortable and quiet!

  • 4 of 5

The Sleepy Creek cabin was the perfect place for a weekend away from the kids! We were close enough to town for a quick trip in but felt like we were completely removed from the rest of the world when actually at the cabin. The neighbors around the cabin were also quiet and respectful of the general atmosphere. The cabin had everything we needed and we were able to make quite a few delicious meals while staying! The only things we wish would have been different were the amount of stink bugs that shared the cabin with us and the smell of cat urine on the rug in the main bedroom. Stink bugs are a little creepy but completely harmless so we coexisted fine. They could just shock you when showing up unexpectantly in odd places (aka blankets, pillows, toothbrushes).

Amazing mountain-stream cabin get-away

  • 5 of 5

The only thing lacking was a 90-foot waterfalls! Wow! What an amazing cabin get-away right next to a 40-foot wide babbling stream in a mountain forest! My wife and I celebrated our one-year anniversary there for two and a half days, and we couldn't have been happier. We had gorgeous weather and two nights of full moon reflecting in the stream that we enjoyed from the deck. We loved sipping our morning coffee on the deck, listening to the stream, and watching a movie in the evening with the wood stove keeping us plenty warm. Also enjoyed the small town of Berkeley Springs 15 minutes away. We are hoping to go back again!

Creekside Oasis

  • 5 of 5

The Sleepy Creek Cabin was delightful and surprising. As we turned onto the seemingly residential gravel road that led to the cabin, we didn't know what to expect. Would this be the remote, isolated experience for which we had hoped? It definitely was. The cabin sits right up against the creekside with no visible neighbors in sight, providing a tranquil and remote experience. It's also close to some beautiful hiking spots.

The cabin itself was perfect, both rustic and cozy, and the wood-burning stove added to the charm and experience. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful, but buggy.

  • 2 of 5

The property itself was beautiful. The cabin is deep in the woods right next to the creek. It's quiet and secluded. The kitchen and bathroom have been recently updated. The cabin would sleep five very comfortably. They also have plenty of movies and tv to keep you occupied. However, there is a pretty significant stink bug problem. During our two day stay we probably killed about 40 of them. I don't think we will be returning to the cabin until the bug problem is fixed. It's a real shame because we loved it otherwise.

Owner's Response: I’m so sorry you had an issue with the stink bugs. I agree they are a nuisance and annoying. They can’t survive inside since their food source is outside, so only come in once the weather has turned and it’s too cold to be outside all the time (generally March and April). This winter just wasn’t cold enough to kill the vast population. In the past, a couple stink bugs have found their way into the cabin (not much more than we have had in our own home) but this year is probably more significant due to the mild weather. I appreciate the information so we can take some appropriate action. We have purchased 2 bug repellers that are supposed to deter all bugs (stink bugs included) from coming in. We will also ask our handyman to come out and see if there are any gaps around the windows, etc. where he can put some extra seal. I do hope you will try us again Kathleen so you can have an opportunity to really enjoy the quiet and seclusion.
