About Kate Frick

Hello! We are David and Kate. We live close by in Frederick, MD along with most of our adult children and grandchildren. We are nature lovers and outdoor adventurers and would love to share our dream cabin with you.

Kate Frick purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Kate Frick chose West Virginia

Sleepy Creek Cabin is a dream come true for us. Something about the mixture of arts, wellness, and natural beauty of Berkeley Springs kept us returning to this historic town. We finally decided we had to have a place of our own. When we first arrived at the cabin, saw the view of the water right from the deck, the privacy of the woods, and the beauty of the vaulted ceilings within, we knew this place was 'the one'. We lovingly renovated the cabin to what we refer to as 'Rustic Luxury'. No where on earth have we felt the peace as at Sleepy Creek Cabin and we hope to pass that on and let others experience the unique serenity this special place has to offer.

What makes this cabin unique

Complete privacy is what you will experience. Sitting on the deck facing the creek you will not see another house or cabin. If you need a break from life in the fast lane, this is it. We love the fact that within 10-15 minutes we can be in town to eat at fine restaurants, tour art galleries, antique shops, or get a massage. Also close by are local parks to boat, fish, hike, run, bike, or ride horses. It truly is the best of all worlds.

Beautiful Cabin. A lot of wildlife.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was nice. We seen a lot of deer drinking out of Sleepy Creek in front of the cabin. Cabin was clean with a nice kitchen. We cooked dinner in each night. Not far from Berkeley Springs or Hancock, MD. Would definitely return.

Little piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5

Sleepy creek was everything I hoped it would be. Very clean, quiet and comfortable. But most important was the calm, serenity and refreshing feeling I had when I left. Nothing does a body and soul better than to connect to nature and all it has to offer. It was the most relaxing week I ever had. Thank you for providing that for me. Can't wait to come back

A lovely place for a getaway

  • 5 of 5

A lovely, quiet and very private setting. Great for families or a romantic escape for a couple. One of the accesses to the cabin has been closed due to a bridge closure if your coming from the Berkley Springs direction. We would love to return in the future.

This is our 2nd time here and continues to be our number 1 place to relax and recharge!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin meets every expectation to the one who is trying to find that peaceful and relaxing place. Your right on the creek which is the perfect setting to sit your chair in the water and throw a line or two in. The porch is very relaxing while enjoying your morning coffee and watching the wildlife all around. We were lucky enough to see several deer, a blue heron, a wood turtle and lots of birds. The cabin is super clean and has all your needed amenities from dishes, utensils, towels, blankets, and more. You can tell the owners take pride in their property. We enjoyed sitting under the porch during a rain storm and antique shopping in Hancock and Berkeley Springs. We will be back hopefully in the fall, if not this will continue to be our annual kick off our summer vacation spot!

Great Solitude--Storms and All!

  • 4 of 5

I really enjoyed getting away for some solitude. I was impressed with how clean and tidy the place was--very inviting and calming and comfortable.

Rained for 14 hours straight the first night I was there. I saw the creek rise several feet and widen about 3 times its normal width. Sleepy Creek was awakened and became a rushing river! Pretty awesome.

Storm knocked out the power during the night. Would be good to have a power outage phone number to call, and a spare flashlight for times like that. Man was it dark during the storm.

FYI: My GPS worked great and I always had a cell signal. (Verizon)

Never could get the Direct TV to come on in the living room, but it worked in the bedroom so I was still able to track with my favorite NBA team in the playoffs. Perhaps user-error?

I left refreshed and refueled after having explored the area, spent some time thinking, praying and reading on the porch. Really enjoyed myself. Thanks for allowing me to rent your place!

Beautiful, secluded cabin by the creek

  • 5 of 5

My husband, best friend, and I spent four amazing days at the cabin. We were able to relax, do a little hiking and enjoy Berkeley Springs, which is only 20 minutes away. The cabin was clean, comfortable, and very welcoming. I didn't get a chance to interact with David, but Katie was so friendly and accommodating that I can't say enough about her. It was very important for us to enjoy peace and quiet, which we did. No one bothered us, but there is a handyman available if there are any issues. He stopped by because we did need something minor and he was very friendly. The creek is beautiful and soothing. We left several cairns behind along the creek bed. Overall, the cabin, inside and out was exactly what we needed.

A couple notes. First, the cabin is deep in the woods. There will be insects. We rent a lot of cabins, so we know when they are sprayed. This one was, but not all bugs are killed by that. My friend has dealt with stink bugs, so she knew that there is a way to dispose of them quickly and easily with a water bottle. It's on YouTube. They weren't that much of an issue when we went. Second, this was not a problem for us because we always bring way more than we need, but the fridge is empty (no condiments) and the only food type item is salt and pepper, so bring whatever you normally use. There is an ice maker in the freezer, so you can fill a cooler before you leave. That's not a complaint, just a heads up for future guests. They have built a fire pit, which is really nice. There was plenty of wood, but bring some newspaper to get it started. The beds were very comfortable and the sheets were extremely soft. There are plates, pots and pans and Tupperware (which many other places do not supply). I suggest bringing some paper plates, we forgot. My husband is 6'1" and he was pleasantly surprised that he didn't have to duck under the shower head as he has to at many places that we stay. The bathroom is really nice and has a grab bar next to the toilet and in the shower. There is no bathtub, but the shower is very large.

We thank Katie and David for having us and will definitely be back!
