Casa Tranquila is a beautiful south facing private villa set in 8 acres of almond groves with beautiful hill views and a little sea view. The property is entered through double electric gates leading to a double carport . BBQ with worktops and sink. Swimming pool (8x4m), large pool terrace. 3 other terraces. If you wish to visit the coast then Málaga is only 25 mins away and Torremolinos 30 while 50 mins east takes you to the Costa Tropical. Granada, Sevilla and Cordoba, all within easy reach. The ski slopes of Sierra Nevada will take you 1 hour 45 mins by car. Gibraltar is only a 2 hour drive away. 8min away Casabermeja has all the amenities including banks, shops and good restaurants.

Places to visit in Andalucia including ski resort: The sandy beaches of Málaga and the Costa del Sol are only a 25 minute drive from the villa and in complete contrast you will find the ski slopes of Sierra Nevada 1½ hours away. Also Granada and the Alhambra palace are well worth a visit. The ancient historical town of Antequera with its bull ring and golf course is only 20 minutes away. Sevilla, Córdoba, Cadiz and Gibraltar are all within easy reach for day trips. Málaga is a lovely city, you can visit the old part with the cathedral and the Moorish alcazaba ( fortress ) which dates back to 1065 or visit the wonderful modern shopping centres. Closer to the villa there are pretty white villages, the lake of La Viñuela is a short drive away and the largest reservoir in Andalusia with its man made beach can be found at Iznájar, 40 minutes away. This is a very pretty area with lots of Olive groves. La Costa Tropical to the east of Málaga is a very beautiful coastline and very traditionally Spanish, La Herradura is well worth a visit.

Golf courses: Good golf courses can be found in nearby Antequera or Málaga.

The village of Casabermeja has all the amenities including 2 banks, various small supermarkets, bakeries, wet fish shop, 24 hour health care and wonderful restaurants. Whether you want a superb evening meal of fresh fish or seafood or delicious grilled meat, a Cerveza with tapas, a pizza or a burger you will find it in Casabermeja. Why not try the famous local dishes, fried breadcrumbs in garlic with spicy sausage or Plato de Los Montes, pork loin, spicy sausage fried egg and fried green pepper. In summer the gazpacho is very refreshing and of course the local wine.

Casabermeja also has a 24 hour petrol station with cafeteria.

There are lots of places locally to go for long leisurely walks and the national park of El Torcal with it's moonscape walks is only 30 minutes away. Horse riding can also be enjoyed locally.

Activities in Casa Tranquila.: Casa Tranquila is the ideal spot to unwind and relax while soaking up the sun but is also suitable for walking or painting holidays. The villa has Sky T.V. and DVDs but you´ll find it very pleasant to be outside in the evenings eating Al Fresco or playing cards or board games which are provided for your use. There is a large BBQ with worktops and sink and a gas Barbie to be used in summer. You can choose to eat in the shade of the porch or choose one of the terraces with its tables and parasols. The mild winter temperature makes it a great place for a country holiday. The villa has central heating for winter nights and a lovely fireplace in the lounge but you will find with 325 days of sunshine a year you can still go home with a tan.

The children can enjoy the swimming pool and exploring the 8 acres of almond groves and the adults will enjoy the lovely country walks from the house.

Casabermeja has got lots of good restaurants to choose from, information on this in the villa.

Fantastic week at Casa Tranquilla

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week at the villa. It truly lives up to its name and is a great place to unwind and relax. Everything you could possibly need is provided, the kitchen is particularly well equipped and the rest of the property is a delight. Outside the terrace areas provide plenty of shade when it's really hot and the pool and loungers are ideal. The track to the villa is a bit of a challenge, but also provides some stunning views across the mountains.

The local village has some great places to eat and the locals are really friendly and helpful. Shopping is easy, either at the local butchers in the village and or the local Dia store.

If you want to stay somewhere that gives you complete privacy and relaxation then this is the place for you. It offers a real taste of Spanish life but is close enough to visit the more touristy areas.

Sheila and Christobel made booking and getting to the villa really easy and Manalo the gardener is a complete treasure.

Owner's Response: I love to see Casa Tranquila being enjoyed. It gives me great pleasure to read these reviews and know that the holidaymakers go home refreshed and relaxed after Casa Tranquila has worked its' magic on them. We are constantly updating and renewing things at the villa to maintain a high standard. It is an ideal place for those who just want to relax and enjoy the tranquility but also is in easy reach of the coast for days out at the seaside or to visit the cities such as Cordoba, Granada, Sevilla or Malaga. There are pretty white villages in the countryside to visit too, here you find the real Spain and you will also find it is so much cheaper for eating out than on the coast. I'm glad you girls had a great time and I hope to see you again in the future.

A lovely villa in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

Casa Tranquila is a beautiful, secluded little villa nestled in the hills above the town of Casabermeja. Well-equipped with everything you could possibly need, comfortable and cosy inside with good bedrooms, bathrooms and a decent kitchen, while outside the large pool, lovely gardens, and abundance of seating makes for a relaxing, serene and picturesque location. In short, a simply fantastic holiday base, whether you’re a large family or just a couple like us.

Our week’s stay in June 2016 was wonderful. We hired a car at Malaga airport (Enterprise-Atesa, via Cicar online) and it was very helpful meeting Cristobal, husband of owner Sheila, initially in Casabermeja and following him up to the villa, which is a 10-minute drive. A friendly, charming and earnest chap, his informative tour of the facilities and grounds settled us in instantly.

Casabermeja itself is easy to reach: 25min from the airport, just off A-45 junction 124 (where a petrol station is conveniently located). The small town has various amenities, restaurants and bars. We drove to various cities and shopped on return en route at Mercadona supermarkets (in Malaga, on Camino de Casabermeja, and in Antequera, on Avda. de la Estacion). Locating the villa is easy by navigating to a specific landmark, a pair of green gates at the last turn-off.

The villa has very good WiFi and those who like their film and TV will be pleased to know there’s now a large new HD TV (not the old TV pictured) and box providing all the entertainment you could want.

Many stunning places are within easy reach. Experiencing the enchanting sights, sounds and cuisine of an incredibly rich, historic culture makes getting out there so worthwhile, creating amazing memories you’ll treasure. We visited:

- Mijas Pueblo (55 km, 43mins from Casabermeja, ice cream at Mayan Monkey!),

- Ronda (112km, 1hour 21mins, see El Tajo & Puente Nuevo, and Palacio de Mondragon)

- Cordoba (136km, 1h 23m, see La Mezquita, Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos, Juderia, and Puente Romano)

- Granada (113km, 1h 17m, see The Alhambra & Generalife, and Mirador San Nicolas)

- Salobrena beach (106km, 1h 18m)

- Seville (183km, 1h 52m, see Real Alcazar de Sevilla, Catedral de Sevilla & La Giralda, and Plaza de Espana)

Casa Tranquila is highly recommended for a relaxing holiday in a beautiful, romantic, secluded location away from it all, but also within reach of stunning attractions and breath-taking experiences of a lifetime, if it takes your fancy.

Owner's Response: Thank you for that wonderful review, I am just sorry I didn't get to meet you and your wife but I will be returning to Spain for good mid July. Since you left Cristobal has changed the furniture in the second double bedroom, it now has a very comfortable divan bed and matching furniture so we will have to change the photos for that too. We visited Cordoba too the last time I was over and we did a tour of the patios to see the beautiful flowers, it's a bit too hot for that in August though. There are so many places to visit and after a day out there is still time to get the BBQ on and have a swim while you're waiting. I hope to see you again in the future. Best wishes, Sheila and Cristobal.

Relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We, family with 2 kids of 7 and 9, enjoyed a great relaxing holiday in this nice situated villa. The villa is in an ideal location for making day trips to Malaga/Alhambra (book your tickets in the internet in advance), Cordoba, Sevilla and Ronda. But also the beaches, Malaga and Torremolinos are in relatively close proximity. It has a great pool although kids must be good swimmers as it is deep and no place where our kids could reach the bottom to stand. We were not allowed to use the coal grill due to bush fire risks, but luckily the owner had placed a gas grill at the terrace and we have used this one many times to prepare nice meat and fish dishes, even a pizza on the pizza stone for the kids. All accompanied by some suberb Spanish wines. Because the house is located in a pretty remote area you need a car, even to go to the shops, local supermarket and bars in the nearby village. For good supermarkets as the Carrefour you better drive to Malaga (20mins). So nothing in walking distance, but in return you get a villa in a very private and quiet spot with a lot of privacy. I would not recommend it for families with older kids that are looking for exitement, unless they have a driving license. The villa is not new anymore and it has some useage marks, but it was fully equipped, and we liked the quality of the beds in particular. The owners Cris and Sheila are very friendly and speak Spanish, Dutch and English.

Perfect holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 5 with 3 "children" a 21 year old ,18 year old and a 14 year old.The villa is in a secluded spot and has beautiful views and is very comfortably furnished. It is off the beaten track but is only a 10 minute drive to the village which has several good bars and restaurants that are reasonably priced. The supermarkets are very good and have everything you could possibly want on holiday.

As a family we like a mixture of relaxation and sight seeing and the villa was perfect for this.We had an early start to go to Granada and the Alhambra(must book before you travel ) and then some leisurely mornings before heading off to "El Torcal"and Antequerra for shopping and dinner. The kids had two full days at the nearby Aqua Land whilst we went off to Ronda (well worth the drive)and to Mijas. After a day out it was always great to get back to the villa,to put the barbecue on, have a swim in the pool with a beer or a glass of Rioja close at hand.PURE BLISS!!!!

Beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

This villa is well equipped, clean and comfortable. There is plenty of seating outside to enjoy the fantastic views. The master bedroom has doors opening straight onto the pool area, lovely to wake up to the views. Although the pool was very cold in April, our kids still used it. The Villa is nicely secluded but easy driving distance to several beaches, a water park, cable cars, a crocodile park, historic towns like Antequerra and Rhonda and stunning scenery. A car is essential as the Villa is off the beaten track and the nearest shops are a ten minute drive away. I would recommend this as a great place to stay for families, couples or groups of friends. But bars and restaurants are not within walking distance.

Owner's Response: I´m glad you enjoyed your holiday. I hope we see you again. We are constantly renewing and updating equipment in the villa to make it comfortable for our guests. From May until the end of October and sometines into November the pool is warm enough to swim in although we did have some very hardy Irish guests who used it in January. The village of Casabermeja has also been updated making the streets prettier and with an area in front of the Restaurant Alba and La Romana for more tables. It is lovely to have a BBQ and eat outside in the evenings at the villa but Casabermeja has some wonderful restaurants and tapa bars very reasonably priced. Bar Alba is especially good and you can order a paella, for this you need to give them advance warning, and you wont be disappointed. Their house wine is very good too. Hope to see you again next year.

Relaxing idyllic week!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the villa for a week during May half term and had a brilliant time. The age of our group ranged from 2 - 28 years old and there was something for everyone to do. The views from the villa were spectacular. Most evenings were spent sitting outside in the large outdoor area out having a barbecue! There was lots to do around the area: we visited Antequera for a cultural day, went of a tour of the Wolf Park, walked in the El Torcal National Park, visited the waterpark and spent a day on the beach at Torremolinos.

The information that Sheila and Christobal provided for us was really helpful. We were grateful that Christobal came to meet us in Casabermeja when we arrived to give us a tour of the village and show us the way to the villa - we would have never found it otherwise!

On our last night we had a very enjoyable evening at Bar Alba in the centre of Casabermeja. Our Spanish language was pretty poor as we had all studied French at school but through our 10 Spanish words, cherades and a lot of patience from the waitress we managed to communicate!!

We had a lovely week with a mixture of day trips and relaxing in the secluded villa.

The village of Casabermeja has all the amenities including 2 banks, various small supermarkets and a large one, bakeries, fishmonger, 24 hours health centre and wonderful restaurants. There are 2 padel courts and a tennis court. There is a lovely old church in the village and the local cemetery is a national monument and has featured in many Spanish television programmes. There are lots of places locally to go for long leisurely walks and the national park of El Torcal with it's moonscape walks is only 30 minutes away. Horse riding can also be enjoyed locally. A weekly market operates every Friday until 2pm with fruit, vegetables, shoes and clothes. In June there is a 4 day feria (fair) for Corpus Cristi with traditional and popular live music and many activities for children. In August there is another 4 day feria. Colmenar is a 16 minute drive. Comares is of particular interest with narrow car free streets and stunning views to the mountains and coast from its main plaza. National park of 'El Torcal' 40 minutes. To the east of Malaga there are many coastal towns but Nerja is particularly nice with the Balcon de Europa and the Caves of Nerja 50 minutes from Casabermeja. Malaga itself is a lovely city, full of culture, It is the birthplace of Picasso and you can visit his home and the Picasso museum. Malaga has more museums than any other city in Andalucia; over 30 at last count - and new ones are opening all the time. Learn about the city through its wine, at the Wine Museum; its social history and customs, from the collection of 19th-century paintings at the new Carmen Thyssen museum; and its famous local personalities, such as the painter Felix Revello del Toro. For more art and design delights, you can visit museums of contemporary art, archaeology or glass; while fashion is covered, together with cars (yes, seriously - it's a clever gender-balancing combination) at one of the city's latest openings. Although there has been a certain amount of destruction here over the centuries, especially during the Spanish Civil War, there is still plenty of proof of the Moorish occupation. Today you can visit the Moorish Alcazaba fortress, dating back to 1065, which also now features a very interesting archaeological museum, as well as the Castillo de Gibralfaro, another Moorish castle.

There are also many churches of great architectural and historic interest in and around the centre, which are well worth visiting, also the Cathedral.

If you enjoy shopping then Malaga is the place to go with it's indoor shopping centres and pedestrianised shopping areas.

The ancient, historical town of Antequera is only a 30 minutes drive away and has a bull ring and a golf course nearby. Sierra Nevada (1½ hours) is a lovely ski resort but is also pretty to see in Spring. Nearest beach is Malaga at 30 mins. but to the west of Malaga you have the resorts of the Costa del sol, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Mijas. A little further on you have the millionaires paradise, Marbella which is interesting to see, especially Puerto Banus, the luxury marina and shopping complex where the millionaires pose on their very expensive yachts or can be seen driving around in their luxury cars.

One of my favourite cities is Cordoba which is 135 kms from Casabermeja and takes 1 hour 23 minutes approximately to get there..

Cordoba is the third largest city, after Malaga and Seville, to boast a magnificent old town with monuments inherited from the Romans and the era of Al Andalus, to be declared Patrimony of Humanity.

Cordoba charms the visitor with cultural celebrations such as the Fiesta of de Cordobese Patios, in which houses compete and open their typical Cordobese patios, specially decorated for the occasion, to the public.

The name of Cordoba is most probably of Phoenician (Qart-tuba) or Iberian origin, but in the Roman era the city was already known as Cordoba. The one thing we know for sure is that the colony was founded around 152 BC by inhabitants of Rome.

After the collapse of the Roman Empire, Cordoba was conquered by the Visigoths, who were only slow to be accepted by the local citizens, and then it was already conquered by the Muslims and was converted into the Caliphate of Cordoba. This was the start of Cordoba becoming one of the biggest cities of the world with around 450.000 inhabitants – and the era that left us monuments such as the Mezquita and the Azahara Medina.

After the Christian conquest many old Roman houses were divided between the nobility who assisted during the conquest. It’s in this era that most religious buildings were constructed.

Because of a combination of epidemics and bad economics after the conquest, only 25.000 of the 450.000 inhabitants remained. The splendour of the era under Muslim rule vanished, and this was a situation that only started to change again halfway the 20th century.

Seville, the capital of andalucia is well worth a visit but is a bit further away at 183 kms and takes 1 hour 53 min
