125 years after its construction and initial use as an olive mill, "1891" Home was fully renovated. Magnificent views at the Aegean Sea and the Mediterranean sky makes it the holiday house everyone dreams of.
“1891"- Home, is a two storey villa, situated in Apokoronas- one of the seven Municipalities of the Prefecture of Chania and one of the most picturesque. Apokoronas covers a diverse area that reaches from the foothills of
the White mountains to the sandy beaches and rocky shores on the
northwest side of Crete.
Within its boundaries you will discover the beauty of olive, citrus
groves and vineyards, local flora and fauna along with stunning views
of the Mediterranean Sea. Due to its locale and the area's vibrant
settlements, Apokoronas still offers pockets of traditional Cretan
hospitality and customs as well as architecture.
The area is known for its hiking/ foot trails, gorges and some of the
most popular sandy beaches famous for sailing, water sports or just
relaxing by the waterfront.
Daily life in Kefalas impresses the visitor with its tranquil pace- The location of “1891" home epitomizes restful relaxation with a magical view but a few minutes of walking through the village alleyways leads you to the types of services necessary for one's vacation such as super markets, tavernas and traditional cafes.

Perfect Semi-Rural Oasis
The 1891 home is a wonderful place to spend time. The house itself is elegant and stylish, welcoming and comfortable, with everything you might need. The two decks (upper and lower) are both superb vantage points to appreciate the excellent view of the sea and surroundings. The pool and garden are beautiful. It is a short walk to the village square in Kefalas - the centre of a close-knit community. The 1891 home is a convenient drive to many local attractions. Alexandra is a flawless hostess. We enjoyed charming hospitality, and were pleased to speak to both Alexandra and her husband about local attractions and aspects of modern life in Greece. We would return here happily. This location deserves at least five stars. Too bad one cannot assign bonus stars for a truly stellar experience.
Amazing, relaxed atmosphere. Wonderful host.
The house itself is immaculate, clean spacious and overall just spectacular. We are a family of 5 (kids 5, 7 and 10), it easily accommodated us. The pool is a nice break during the hottest part of the day. The rooftop patio is lovely for the sunrise and in the evening.
Alexandra is a wonderful host, she was generous, and gave us lots of great local advice.
The location is in the small village of Kefalas. It's away from the tourist hordes, and the streets are too small to accomodate tourist buses. Perfect! There are two taverns and a couple of markets for groceries (larger supermarket is about 20 minutes away). The taverns have excellent local dishes, and are very generous (with complimentary rakia and deserts at the end of the meal).
Local beaches are 10-20 minutes away by car.
Just superb overall.
We had a very relaxing 10 days at this beautiful house. The house and garden have been lovingly and tastefully restored and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We spent most of our time on the terrace or by the pool, enjoying the sea view and soaking up the atmosphere of this rustic and authentic village setting. We received a very warm welcome from Alexandra (as well as some fantastic olive oil made by her husband and some delicious biscuits made by her Mum) which was a great start to what turned out to be a lovely holiday. I hope to return in the not too distant future!
Top location for relaxing
We loved this house from the first moment. Located in a small village with a great sea view it is in perfect order and tastefully furnished and decorated. The terrace is a charming place and the infinity pool is just luxurious. There is comfort everywhere: quiet air conditioners, mosquito nets, comfortable beds, personal care products and so on. The welcome was very warm and friendly with all you need for the first days: fruits, tomatoes, coffee, many cretan delights and much more. The very sympathetic owner takes care of the needs and is easy to reach. We enjoyed the tours to Chania and Rethymno; the highlight was of course the Samaria Gorge. We had a great time at this fantastic location and will definitely return.
Beautiful villa in peaceful location
1891 home is an immaculate villa in a lovely location. We loved the historic touches in this restored building and had everything we could need in the villa. The pool was a little cold on some days but that was probably due to the unusually wet weather we experienced. We enjoyed walking through the winding lanes of Kefalas each night to the local taverna, and everyone we met was very friendly, particularly our host Alexandra who helped us out with a couple of difficult situations (not related to the villa) and left us some local treats and fruit. There are two nice seaside towns about 20 minutes drive away and the historic village of Vamos close by. We hope to be back again one day.
Beautiful home in a stunning setting
Home 1891could not be more perfect. A stunningly restored and tastefully modernised village house in a beautiful position within a traditional Cretan hilltop village, enjoying panoramic views to the sea and along the coast towards Rethymno. The owner Alexandra gave us the warmest of welcomes and could not have been more helpful. Apart from the fact that the house is very well equipped and beautifully maintained, Alexandra had also provided fresh tomatoes, local yogurt , honey and olive oil, together with homemade goodies, including home baked biscuits, muesli and her mother's delicious cheese pies. While the house itself is very special, with all the warmth and charm of a much loved family home, there is also lots to do and see in the surrounding area. There are plenty of good tavernas nearby, an amazing bakery in Vamos and it is within easy striking distance of Chania itself. But, when the sun shines, you will find it very difficult to tear yourself away from the fantastic terrace and infinity pool! We will definitely be back!
