About Raf Mandwee
A man who enjoys traveling and attending cultural events while visiting new spots. Born in the Middle East and lived in Sydney, Detroit, and San Diego to name few. I love many beautiful things the world offers-color, gardens, books, music, travel, culture, good pescatarian food and the joy of being around people. I have made it to 26 countries so far. While traveling, I like to explore museums and conversing with the locals. Some of my favorite cities are Barcelona, Marrakesh, and Bangkok. I love making new friends and sitting around having an intimate conversation about the world. Professional jewelry designer by trade and a tour guide at the national museum on my fun times. I enjoy reading non-fiction books and magazines and do not watch TV much but I do enjoy watching foreign movies a lot. I like meeting the hosts or the guests and get to know about them while I am in their town. This is my own home where I live in and not a vacation property. I am willing to share my home with you as long as you can accept its personal charm and imperfections. I always look forward to meeting my new guests before hosting them.

What makes this House unique
There are many benefits to staying at this house. In addition to the ample space for groups of 12 and more, it is conveniently located new the major expressways and it is less than 15 minutes away from downtown areas.
Very welcoming home
Raf is an excellent host, he responds very quickly when you have a question or request, and while he wasn’t available to meet us when we arrived, he left us a personal note and treat and he made it very easy to check in. The house has a lot of character (really interesting decor, art and photographs) and is spacious and thoughtful in many details, comfortable beds and great towels. Plenty of room for a larger family group and good kitchen facilities for cooking some meals. We were barely in town long enough to sit out on the patio, which is an attractive feature at this time of year, but we enjoyed sitting out there to have morning coffee. Would be happy to go back.
Tranquil and amazing home
Home was a perfect place for a short stay in Detroit! Property owner was extremely accommodating and professional. Very convenient, safe, and comfy!
Beautiful and serene
We stayed in this home for a family holiday—two couples and two singles. The communication with the gracious host was perfect. The home is beautifully appointed for comfort and we were delighted to find welcoming treats in every room. The bathrooms and bedrooms are spacious with every thoughtful detail. We were all intrigued by the family history revealed by the decor, art and furnishings. The house can accommodate many more than our party with ease. Getting onto the freeway from here was a cinch. This place is really what “home away” is about. We would love to stay here again.
Our family of 7 were coming up to Michigan for a family wedding. Communication with Rafat was quick and easy. He was very flexible with our arrival times which kept changing all the way until the day before we left. Upon our arrival Rafat greeted us at the door and answered all our questions about the house (lights, locks, etc). I think at that moment we knew we were truly transported to an oasis. All of us enjoyed the house immensely. Rafat's house is a work of art. All of the loving touches he has put in every corner of the house both inside and out were a joy to behold. The house was also a comfortable and peaceful place. We spent a good amount of time outside by the pond and waterfall (especially me in the morning, reading, before everyone got up and moving). We were all sorry that we did not have more time to spend there. Rafat's house is a unique treasure. Thank you Rafat for the opportunity to enjoy your house and we are still enjoying the wonderful Baklava!
It was a wonderful Home away experience to host John and his family. John communicated with me easily and promptly and is very friendly, gracious , thoughtful, respectful, no hassle guest. He left my house in an immaculate condition . Would host him again in a heart beat and I highly recommend him or any of his family to future guests! Thank you John for visiting!
THIS HOME IS GORGEOUS
Perfect for three or four small couples, this home is so much more amazing than the pictures let on. Rafat has truly created something unique in Southfield. Very authentically and lovingly decorated inside and out, my group was thoroughly impressed with what we saw. The seating area outside is peaceful, the gas grill ties right into the utility so you don't have to worry about fuel, the yard is spacious, the neighborhood is quiet. You can hear the highway when you're outside but it is not overwhelming, and you can't hear it inside the house at all. 10/10 would stay again.
If I can give Frank and his group more than five stars , I would. When Frank first contacted me to make the reservation for his bachelor party, I was a bit hesitant to what to expect. Frank turned out to be very easy going, ,cultural and a professional individual. He respected the house rules and left my house in an immaculate condition. I would not hesitate to recommend Frank or any of his friends to any future hosts and he is definitely more than welcome to visit me again.
Nice place welcoming but lacks cleanliness
My husband and I along with 2 couples/friends have stayed at Rafat for 2 nights on Aug 26th and 27th. Rafat was welcoming and prompt to answering any question right away. The home seems to have a lot of touches of nice decors but it felt like we are staying in with someone else in the house and we were sleeping on sheets that others have slept on(not so clean). It felt a bit awkward going into a home when there was left over food in the fridge. The backyard was green and lush but lacks clean furniture to sit on (very old rusty and moldy furniture).
Rafat can hopefully make some changes to improve this place as there is potential for it and it seems that he worked hard to get it decorated.
I always appreciate the feedback I get from my renters, Saide and her group was a pleasure to host.I would like to thank her for her positive feed back. I spend a lot of times perfecting my house since it is my home and it is where I stay when I am in town. I have all my houses professionally cleaned and I strive to have all my houses totally spotless for all my renters. All the sheets are washed after each guest leaves which surprises me that Saide found them looking unclean . I will definitely use this feed back as an idea to leave a second set of sheets in the rooms for my future guests in case the sheets do not appear spotlessly clean.Regarding the old patio furniture,my home has a unique middle eastern decor with many vintage pieces of furniture that might seem rusted or old but it is intentional. I can understand how some people enjoy that look but others don't.I believe the pictures of the listing shows the antique pieces throughout the house. As far as the food in the fridge is concerned , it is something that I neglected to do. I will make sure to totally empty it next time.I apologize for that. You can check my listings on other websites as well (check my reviews here and the "other" major website for the reviews of all my houses), Again, I appreciate Saide mentioning this, I will do whatever i can to make my guests happy at their second home.I will l say that she left the house very clean and tidy, excellent guest.
