This house has been our family home for fifteen years and is much loved. It is now far too big for just me and my husband Tim and so we live in the cottage next door. We are on hand to help guests with whatever they need and meet them with keys.
We thoroughly enjoy the pleasure guests find in the house and its surroundings and are delighted it has a new lease of life. In the summer of 2016 we will be offering it as an exclusive venue for small celebrations.
Penny Holley purchased this house in 2000
We have thoroughly renovated it, adding verandas and balconies and cladding the exterior in western red cedar. It is a brick built house and very warm and welcoming.
A great weekend in a lovely house, made even more beautiful by 10 inches of snow!
Thanks for helping us celebrate a great birthday celebration.
I've book this place to celebrate my 40th with a group of 16 friends.
From the beginning, Penny was very attentive and accommodating. Initially we were planning on staying 2 nights but due to the summer season we had to book 3 nights (but Penny was very generous and gave us an great discount).
The house is even more amazing than looking in the photos. It is decorated to such a high standard that it makes you feel very special.
The Sonos sound system with speakers that can be controlled individually was fab..
The cinema is just unbelievably beautiful.
We also used the Arctic House in the back garden to grill marshmallow after our BBQ by the hot tube.
Penny has left towels and hotel style toiletries for each guest. I added some chocolate to the guests bedroom and some 'thank you' signs with their names at each bedroom door and they felt pampered.
The hot tube is big enough and very pleasant. If you use is constantly (as we did) by the third day you may need to change the water (it would be good to have some instruction about how to do it).
The bedrooms have a great sound isolation and everyone could sleep very well. It would be better to have double beds that could be separated in twins if needed as we had single friends that unfortunately had to share beds.
The kitchen is well equipped and we made a great use of the wine fridge. I would suggest that an espresso machine, with capsule system, would have been a plus ;)
Enough parking for several cars and great taxi system in case you want to go out and have a feel drinks.
We even had the fireplace on. The woodland area is very pretty.
We had lobster lunch on Friday at the Bird in Hands pub (In Sonning Common) and this was just delicious (with fresh lobster from Cornwall). It was a pleasant 40 minutes walking there from the house (http://www.birdinhandsonningcommon.com).
At the check out they were very relaxed and we left the house without any pressure.
The check in at 10am and check out at 6pm allowed us to enjoy a full 4 days of luxury celebrations.
On Sunday we had a short drive to Henley-on-Thames and for 99 pounds we could hire a luxury Olympic Class launch with Hobbs (http://www.hobbsofhenley.com/olympic-class-launches) and spent 1 hour cruising that exclusive area. You can bring your own champagne on board and one of our friends was self driving the boat for us.
We are def considering returning there in the future. Everyone loved it!
Couldn't fault it from start to finish. Will definitely be back.
Only comment - nice wine glasses would be good. Could only find champagne or normal tumblers.
Thank you Penny and Tim for a wonderful stay. The house is beautiful and fulfilled all the requirements and dreams of our hen. I could not recommend this venue highly enough. The interior, location and stay was perfect in every way. You will not be disappointed.
I look forward to visiting again!
We were a group of 13 women and had an absolutely fantastic stay at The Copse and we wouldn't hesitate to go back. The views will take your breath away.
The house is outstanding and all of the rooms are beautiful. It was spotlessly clean and we didn't want for anything - the attention to details was superb.
The cinema room was better than most cinemas we have been to and comes equipped with DVD's to sort all tastes and the hot tub was fantastic during the sunny days.
Thank you Penny for being such a fantastic host and thank you for also recommending Tandoori Connoisseur - a wonderful Indian restaurant and Lynn the private caterer, who made us a lovely meal.
Our second visit this time for a family party for a Diamond Wedding anniversary celebration. The Copse as everything to make any occasion very special.
The rooms are large and sunny, with plenty of seating;pretty and comfortable bedrooms individually decorated. The kitchen very comprehensively equipped. Our family enjoyed the hot tub, cinema and a barbecue in the Arctic Hut. The garden looked lovely with masses of daffodils, the bird sang for us!
Penny and Tim made us feel most welcome, they have a wonderful way of making the house feel like your home(if only for a short time)
We all had a truly memorable week end, and would highly recommend staying at The Copse
We stayed with 12 other adults for a leaving party as we were relocating to the US. The house is a beautiful building set in an amazing location, there was plenty of space for everyone to relax and enjoy themselves and we had a great time using the cinema and hot-tub.
The house is finished to a high standard and all our guests were very complimentary about their rooms.
The kitchen and rear living room is an amazing social space and allows everyone to congregate and enjoy themselves while meals were being prepared.
Overall we had a fantastic weekend and i cant recommend the house enough, a clear 5 stars!
