Wonderful week in Gualchos villa

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful week at the villa in mid-August. Weather was warm, but it is cool inside the villa with a nice breeze most of the time. The villa is fantastic with 5 bedrooms and 4 1/2 bathrooms, plenty of room to relax and enjoy. It is in a very secluded area above the town of Gualchos. There are gorgeous views out to the Mediterranean sea from the villa. The beach at Castell de Ferro was great, the granddaughters loved swimming in the sea and snorkel around the rocks. The beaches in the area were not very crowded considering we were there during the a busy tourist season. Our granddaughters loved the villa pool and spent hours each day swimming.

Miguel, the local contact for the villa, was very responsive to any issues we had. I highly recommend the villa for a quiet and relaxing holiday.

Stunning location, great service from the owner and local manager.

  • 5 of 5

Gualchos is lovely local village with great atmosphere and very friendly people. Also the nearest beaches are nice surrounded by good restaurants and bars, but a car is a must for this villa. We hope to get back soon!

Time and Place to Relax

  • 5 of 5

If you want a no-hassle, comfortable and quiet Spanish holiday, this is the place for you. The (non-smoking) house is cool, clean, well-appointed and has fantastic views off the mountain (the metalled track up to the house is a first-gear job!) and over to the sea. And the night skies...!

You soon get used to traipsing down to the Mina for delicious spring water (the tap water is OK but not recommended, just in case), the butane-bottled cooking, and living with the inevitable Spanish cesspit-related no-paper-in-the-loo regime. Part of the Experience.

The pool is large and a sun-trap. And the daily sweep-and-skim regime keeps you fit!

The village - Gualchos - is typically Spanish: friendly but not intrusive. Ten minutes away is the coast - magnificient and relatively unspoilt at the moment. Catch it while you can!

A wonderful place to rest and enjoy the best southern Spain has to offer!

Great holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Spent a very long weekend in this lovely villa from the 29th April til 3rd May. The weather at this time was great, really sunny and not unbearably hot. The views from the property are very spectacular; being so high up means you can see for miles over the surrounding mountains, the village and the sea. The villa itself is great, very spacious, relaxing and well-maintained. The location is very idyllic and private, perfect for a relaxing break. I would advise that a car is needed. A 10 minute walk (but down an extremely steep mountain road) is the village of Gualchos where there is a small convienience shop and a bar. However, own transport is necessary to go any further afield. Overall, a fantastic place which I would recommmend to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday in the sun.

Un sejour tres agréable

  • 5 of 5

This fantastic property is set high above sea level on a peak in the Sierra Nevadas, with breathtaking views from every window and terrace. Its ideal location is just a ten minute drive from the nearest beach, and an hour away from the popular Sierra Nevada skiing destination!

The villa overlooks the sleepy white Spanish village of Gualchos, with its own mountain spring. The Spaniards travel miles to collect water here, believing it to be the freshest spring. Gualchos is predominantly inhabited by friendly Spanish families who have lived in the village for generations. There are a handful of English, French and Danes who have stumbled across this hidden gem and fallen in love with it - always too happy to help any passers-through.

The local beach is only a 10 minute ride away in Castell de Ferro, itself a small traditional fishing town, offering a range of restaurants, bars and shops. You need to visit to appreciate this beauty - its ideal for families, golfers, hikers.

In a region called the ' Costa Tropical ' - otherwise known as the Granada - Gualchos/Castell is very popular with the Spanish and Granadians, as it's only 1 hour approx, due south

Gualchos village itself has history dating back to and before the Moors made the Kingdom of ' El-Andaluz '. The village is

lively with regular fiestas. 7km away and you have all the other services you need to hand - beach resort with lots of cafes, bars , restaurants a couple of discos too! Castell also features a weekly saturday market with more or less everything on offer....

However, you maybe surprised at just how much time you can happily spend in Gualchos alone . Whilst only 650 people in population, Gualchos covers a large area, and has lots of great walks - some easy others more difficult.

Gualchos enjoys a unique heat with slight breeze , but it never gets cold! A short trip up the moutains will reveal little villages and hamlets giving the feel of time having stood still. You can be in the wonderful Alpujarras mountains in just 45 minutes drive or take a coastal drive to the popular Amunecar in the same time. Orgiva is the gateway and worth a stroll for sure. Above and higher up are the villages with flat topped roofs and a thriving pure wool rug as well as ceramic making industry.

Many visitors to Gualchos come back year after year.

It's way of life is tremendously appealing.

The Andalusia's Costa Tropical where you will find a corner of real Spain - every bar serves free ' tapas ' with every drink; meals are cheap and substantial , albeit of high quality...all good ' Mediterranean Diet ' Food. Older folks still take siestas, and then chat with their neighbours , sitting in the narrow ( almost car free ) streets until late at night.

If you get go to Granada... a must see , is the Alhambra Palace ( the winter home of the Kings of the Moors ). It is one of Spain's and Europe's treasures....a world heritage site. The history and shops are amazing ..... The Moorish quarter ( the Albacyn ) is unique , and like a Morrocan Souk.... or take in a Flamenco club., (nightlife is superb), and the Bodegas (wine bars with the barrels ) reknowned. You need a good 4 or 5 hours to look around the Alhambra..... so a day out and mind-blowing !!

It is so easy to fall into the relaxed way of life or if you fancy more action, a short drive takes you to everything from waterparks to cinema's......, chinese restaurants to Argentinian steak houses....Superstores to chic boutiques...are all within a short hop by car .
